3 1/2 hours. Overturned truck turned the freeway into a parking lot. People were getting out and sitting in beach chairs.

4 hours to exit the parking lots at Rockfest 97 in Texas. I never went back to that venue again. Missed the Rolling Stones w/Smashing Pumpkins opening two years later which killed me. I just couldn't see reliving that nightmare.

@FSP:

"I have some advice for you Skip. Plastics. The time to do something is when the time is right."
"What time is it?"
"Well, it looks like it's about time for Suzie to get home. Don't be such a stranger".

Name that movie with several more Graduate references sprinkled throughout & a final scene that matched the Graduate' last scene beat for beat. For sure.

Probably 3 hours. It was a really rainy day with a lot of accidents.

8 hours. We were on our way home from Orlando, and hit the I-4/I-95 intersection just as everyone was leaving after the Daytona 500.

7 1/2 hours, on the Fung Wah (Chinatown bus) from Boston to NYC.

3.5 hours in Tampa...and I was pregnant!! It was a traumatizing experience - I needed to pee and I was starving! :-(

3 hours leaving the woman's gold medal round soccer game in Athens, Ga during the 1996 Olympics. USA won - totally worth the time in the traffic jam.

Valley Girl!

Ding Ding Ding. Valley Girl it is. Also several Romeo & Juliet references sprinkled throughout. The director was paying attention in English class when they covered literary allusions. I love Valley Girl.

Oh man, I loved that Fung Wah. Made me feel like I was back in China!

3 hiurs on a rainy friday night on way home from work. I actually thought i was going to run out of gas!

Longest in traffic would happen every year - 2.5 to 3 hours, trying to get home to Greenwich, CT from NYC... on opening day at Yankee Stadium. ALWAYS turned the Major Deegan Expressway into a parking lot, going through The Bronx.

Syko- 8 hours!! We have a winner!!!!

3 hours from Beverly Hills to Culver City - also on Rodney King verdict day.

I ride a motorcycle. I have never been stuck in traffic. My morning commute takes 20 minutes door to door. In a car, it would be an hour or more.

4 hours on 101 Freeway- accident. I was THREE cars behind where they stopped people from getting through. No cell phones, so couldn't call anyone to explain why I was late. It was 1988.

3 and half hours. Plane crash across freeway.

Four hours in the car plus two while having lunch in some village on the way waiting for the jam to clear. Leaving Madrid (or getting there) by car on some dates and hours is not advisable.

8====D KermitGossnellKnobjob said...

It was not exactly a jam, but slow traffic (we moved about 50 kilometres in those four hours).

2 hours due to weather, for a ride that normally takes 20 minutes.

4 hrs to go 1 mile to Coachella behind a car full of girls taking turns peeing at a nearby grocery store and reading their sign "Will f* for tix" on the back of their windshield. Worst traffic jam ever.

Exiting any NASCAR race is. 3-4 hour experience. My dad waited 5 leaving pocono when they had 1 exit. I waited 3 hours on I-75 from overturned semi to go from Southgate to Royal Oak

2 hours Memorial Day a few years ago. Trying to go home from work when all the Philthadelphians that descend on my area decided to go home all at once. Stupid cockroaches. (Sorry if I offended anyone in the philly area, but the nj locals hate you).

last time we had a blizzard, i pulled over and went to a bar, probably would have been a few hours if I had stayed on the street.

4 hours on the "Alligator" outside Stuttgart, Germany.

Six or seven hours one Christmas Eve driving from STL to Peoria. It normally takes a little over two hours to get there, but there was a blizzard, cars in the ditch...total mayhem.

A few years ago, I lived in Washington State. I had to drive from Poulsbo to the Base which was 8 miles. We had a snow/ice storm the week of Thanksgiving. That night drving home, a normally 15-20 minute drive took 3 hours to get to the base and then another 2 hours from the gate to our home on the base. There were cars in the ditch, on the side of the road, every where. Next morning, the roads were an icy mess and there was around 30 cars abandoned.

12 hours leaving the coast of Tx when they were evacuating from, I think it was Rita in 2005. The car in front of us had children and didn't bring food or drinks so I had their kids in our truck. It was a diesel, so that baby ran the whole time. And it was hot. It was September. They didn't have AC either. I'm glad we were there for those poor babies.

6+ hours...horrible accident in Canada...had to wait for coroner to arrive at the scene.

Jenn said...

What's this traffic you city folk speak of? ;-)

OKay said...

I don't think I've ever spent longer than 15 minutes in a traffic jam, but I get edgy in traffic so I try to find less-travelled routes! We were stopped on the highway one time when a pulp truck lost its load. After about 45 minutes we just turned around and went home, tried again the next day.

Cant believe no one has mentioned driving home from Vegas on a Sunday! Horrible! Esp when you're broke and hung over. The drive of shame!

In MI everyone goes "up north" for the summer (Kid Rock sang about it). Coming home on Sunday on a Holiday weekend adds an extra 3-4 hours to an already 4 hour drive. Totally worth it though for the blue lake water, MI sun and bonfires on the beach.

February 1969, New York City. There was an unexpected 15" snowstorm on a Sunday that paralyzed Queens for 3 days because Mayor John Lindsay was keeping an eye on the city budget and didn't want to spend the $$ to dig out the borough. My sister was staying with a friend for the weekend and we couldn't get out to pick her up.

Three days later on Wednesday they finally cleared enough streets to drive but the traffic was hideous. We drove to pick her up, 11 miles from home. It's normally a 25-30 drive each way but on this day it took us 7 hours round trip.
