Nelson Mandela Still In Critical Condition

It is amazing to me that Nelson Mandela is still alive. This is a man who is 94 years old and I feel like he has lived everyone of those 94 years and then some. To think of where he was 40 years ago and where his country was and to see what happened, in large part, because of him and you have to be in awe. What he has done for his country and for the world is something you probably will never see happen again in our lifetimes. His family says that he is in critical condition after being admitted two weeks ago for a lung infection and that they will let God decide when it is time for Nelson to die and will not take him off life support.

Sorry for the star wars reference, but sometimes Yoda is right. I feel good about this death. I want to celebrate his life. I can honestly say I rarely feel that way about death cause it's such a scary thing. But he lived to see the change he wanted and that's all that matters. He must be at peace.; 10:41 AM

(Sorry, but the way my family copes with sad things is with our exceedingly dark sense of humor; it's harder to cry when you're laughing, you know.)

Anyway, I understand the family (and the nation) not wanting to let him go, but he's lived an incredible, long life and accomplished so much over the course of it--really, I don't think we'll ever see anyone quite like him doing what he did with the set of circumstances with which he contended again in this lifetime--and IMO he's earned his rest in a far better place than this, and I can't help but feel that they just need to let him pass peacefully. (He's probably still hanging on because he knows they aren't ready to let him go; people have hung in there for amazing periods of time waiting for "permission", as it were. I certainly hope he's not suffering right now.); 12:14 PM

I wish him the best for his life, but (this is what you will think is trolling, but is only the truth) he maybe the only person whose inning in jail made him a better person. He was put inside because he put a bomb in a bus/train station. When he was there, he learned to love everybody while his wife was "necklacing" (wikipedia it if you want to feel "happy") people. He left prison, divorced the serial killer and became president. It's true that changed the best and richest country in Africa into the World Champion of rapes, but he is good willed, not evil as zuma, malema and all the people who followed him. Suileabháin said...: Saying that a man's death who is on life support is letting "God decide" is as hypocritical as the women that have litters of multiple children via artificial means saying it's "God's decision" for them to have multiples...seems to me it was "God's" decision for those couples to be barren. People just love to run their mouths about "God" until they have an ACTUAL problem...then it's medical SCIENCE they put their so-called faith in.; 4:26 PM

Goodnight said...: I hear about this all the time working at a hospital. Families who don't have the courage and strength to say yes to turning off life support assuaging their guilt by claiming it's in god's hands.

It's a terrible call to have to make, and it takes a LOT of strength and compassion to go through with it. Some people just aren't that brave.; 1:10 AM
