Hugh Jackman Swears He Is Not Gay

60 Minutes Australia had Hugh Jackman and his wife sit down for an interview that aired this weekend and in it, once again, Hugh Jackman swears he is not gay. Jackman, who has been married to his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness for 17 years says that if he was gay he would be gay and his wife says the same thing. The couple, who got married when Hugh was 27 and Deborra was 40 says it is frustrating and Deborra says the rumors are stupid and offensive. Hugh says he does not really care but that his wife gets upset, probably because everyone thinks she is married to a gay man. She assures the world in the interview that Hugh is not gay and if she had some more Jada Pinkett Smith in her she probably would have had sex with him right there during the interview.

Personally I don't care they seem to have a great relationship and are good parents and I think whatever works for a couple is fine with me...

Well, I don't care if he's gay or not.

Who cares? Seriously - it's obvious that they adore each other. What they choose to do or not do in the privacy of their own home is nobody's business! For the record, I don't want to be questioned about the details of my sex life either, thank you very much!

They've got two children. Regardless of their personal proclivities, I totally respect the fact that they maintain their privacy for the sake of their family.

I think we all typed the same thing at the same time :-)!

(I just deleted my 'this writer is shitty' post. Bad temper I have today.)

This is basically all the same interview Hugh & wife did for American '60 Minutes' during Les Mis Oscar campaign season.

People like insulting Hugh's wife because she's *gasp* OLDER than him. Well, he must be gay then, amirite?

I just blew up the picture to look at her dress, and I must say - that's an exceptionally cute shot of Hugh. Hubba hubba!

Well, he's bi with a five percent hetero thing going on, so I say: You go girl!

So, it's not OK to bash, snark or anything else on someone who comes out of the closet. To do so would be homophobic. But...it's quite arlight to run in the closet blinds and to bash on people we perceive to be gay? Gay or hetero, just let people be who they are meant to be. If they don't want to share, then back the fuck away. If they do share, back the fuck away. I am really done with this gay blinds and gay rumors posts.

I know the rumor is out there, but I can tell you for a fact (and yes someone will probably oppose this) that he is NOT gay. My friend (who is 100% gay) used to work on "Boy From Oz" with Hugh Jackman. He told me he was so in love/lust with Hugh, as a lot of the people on set were. He was telling me that he was also the nicest, most normal and down to earth person. The gay rumors started going around, and Hugh used to just laugh it off. Hugh always said, I know I'm straight, what do I care what rumors go around. I'm happy with my life. My friend told me that he used to jokingly hit on Hugh, and Hugh always very kindly declined saying "sorry...not into men and I love my wife." My friend even let me listen to a voicemail that Hugh left him one time...his voice was so hot.

Anyway...Hugh is straight. I heard it sorta first hand.

Did you ask Angelina Jolie what she thinks? Maybe Deborra has cancer and she's a pity screw for Hugh. You know, for 17 years.

Gay rumors have been around longer than Ted Casablanca's hair and Hugh is a ripe target. He's young and hot, has a theatre background, can sing - GAY.

Wife is older and not conventionally hot, surely a stone cold fox like Hugh who could have any woman in the world (me right now, you bet) could "do better" than that, so she must be bearding.

Plus, that guy who lives with them (business partner, I think) MUST be his boy.

Imma call Angie Jo and see if she thinks we should stage an intervention.

Hi, Iz!

Relating this to the Pierce Brosnan post below, does anyone else remember that Pierce used to fight off these rumors about HIS first wife Cassandra, because she was older than Pierce also? It was WAY back when, but the agism was exactly the same. That is---'a man can't love a woman a few years older. He must be gay.'

Gay, straight or bi I don't care. I adore Hugh and Kudos to him for marrying a much older woman. If it was a man with a much younger woman somehow people would be more forgiving.

God forbid someone be attractive, charming, and STRAIGHT.

I don't think he is a queen (thx alec baldwin).
I once read somewhere that Aussies want a wife who can help them with the cattle and cutting wood, with a huge drinking allowing that is not disliked. His wife fits perfectly. She is probably more a partner in farm things and beer drinking that a hot idiot bimbo.

@libby, I don't remember that but it sounds right! I found this lovely article about Pierce and Cassie. What a sweet and tragic love story. She's the reason he became Bond!

First, I think it is great here that people are saying it doesn't matter and they don't care if he is gay or not. I like people like that. But the fact is, if Hugh WAS really gay, ALOT of people would care enough not to buy tickets to his movies or plays. If you think I am lying all you have to do is look at the box office numbers. Any openly gay guys on that list? Didn't think so.

Second, I doubt he is gay. Other than wishful thinking on my part, there has never been anyone even going to the Enquirer spilling the dirt. So I am glad to see that he can take the rumours with good humour.

He seems like such a good man.

They seem like good decent people--I've never heard a bad word about Hugh.

It is a sad thing that they feel the need to put this out there.

It's nobody's business what his preferences are.

I saw her recently --she guest hosted on The View and she seemed like a really great person.

detown359 said...

I remember the Pierce talk when he was the next it boy. He absolutely adored his wife and was completely devastated when she died.

libby said...

detown---Glad you remember that. Those tabs sure looked like assholes when she suddenly died and Pierce looked like death itself for LONG afterward.

The first time I heard this about Hugh, I knew they had plowed this exact ground before--And it's always because older women are seen as worthless and un-sexy.

I really object to this type of post, regardless of how many times they deny it still the rumors persist I don't think anyone haas the right to intrude on someone's personal life to the extent they feel they have to do this type of interview in response. Gay people have fought for decades to keep nosey intrusive people (and the Government) out of the bedroom MYOB FFS everyone has the right to keep their intimate lives private regardless of sexual orientation!

OKay said...

In keeping with the general theme about "he must be gay, his wife's not hot enough for our liking"...is anybody else here supremely irked by the notion that relationships and in fact MARRIAGE should be based on physical attraction above all else?

figgy said...

Interesting. I've long just assumed that he was gay and that he and Deborra were just great friends who wanted to raise kids together. Which is cool. I've heard they're both lovely people.

But the "if I were gay, I'd be out" argument always strikes me as the strongest one, y'know? Not overcompensating or anything.

Hugh story: a friend of mine kind of stalked him, not in a creepy threatening way. She just loves his performing so much that she flew from Chicago to NYC to see The Boy from Oz something like 40 times. She'd always get seats in the front row, sitting alone, and it got to the point where he actually recognized her, because he'd do these question and answer sessions with the audience afterwards. He found out it was her birthday (somehow) and sang to her from stage, so now she can die happy.

Oh, and she was waiting backstage just to get a look at him, and Deborra-Lee was there too, and she had a conversation, including saying "I love your husband!" to which D-L responded "so do I."

Okay, maybe she is a bit creepy stalkerish, come to think of it, haha

I'm an Aussie and when the episode of the police procedural show came out where Debra and Hugh first met. You could feel the sexual tension coming through the screen. She was the lead and he was a young, just starting out actor and I remember an interview/interrogation scene that I needed to go have a cold shower after. I still don't know if the sexual tension was in the script or not but man you could see how much those 2 wanted each other. Kind of glad they are still together after all this time.

I love that Ted Casablanca's hair got a shout out!

Yes, I do find it interesting that no one mentions Pierce Brosnan's wife who, I think, was 15 years older than him because she lived up to society's vision of beauty. Hugh and Deborah, to me, make a stunning couple because they adore each other. I personally can't have kids so what, that makes my husband automatically gay?? The fact that they adopted is wonderful and 2 very lucky children get to have an extraordinary life because of it!

I love him and think it's fantastic he's been with his wife for so long.

The lasting marriage is such a rarity in Hollywood- that of course coupled with an unconventional pairing by H'wood standards..people have to talk shit because they can't grasp it.

RowdyRodimus said...

To paraphrase an old saying and to exorcize my inner Count Jerkula, younger men want older women because the older they are the more willing they are to give up the ass.

I feel dirty now...

He was awesome in The Boy From Oz, I am so glad I talked the Mum into going even though she didn't like the boys kissing she still liked the show.

CanadianMiss said...

Omg, he didn't marry a bimbo ten years younger than himself, and there aren't rumors of him cheating. HE MUST BE GAY.

Even if he was, who cares. him and his wife obviously love each other. Whatever. Love is love, right?

Also, correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't it actually possible for a person to be bi (not saying he is)fall in love with and marry a person of the opposite sex?

F*ck, the heat is making me pissy.

A while ago, I thought he might be, long before I knew anything about her, but now I think he's straight, and secure and confident to do stuff like Oz and not care what people think. Either way it doesn't matter, he's a talented and apparently really nice guy.
They seem genuinely happy and to be great parents. I hope she doesn't let stupid rumors bother her too much.

What everyone else said--yeah, yeah, yeah, just because she's older than him and not as conventionally "hot" as a younger woman might be, then he must be gay! BULLSHIT, PEOPLE, BULLSHIT. It's insulting as all hell to her ("oh, the only reason he's with her is because he needs a beard"), which I admit grates on me, seeing as I'm an older, not-conventionally-attractive woman myself; also, it completely ignores that (a) physical appearance isn't everything, and (b) you really can't explain romantic/sexual chemistry; it just IS. If I had a dollar for everyone I've ever heard say about their spouse "you know, they weren't my usual type, but there was just something about them"...well, I wouldn't be in the financial pickle I'm right now (no thanks to being out of work for 6 months), believe me. The fact that he doesn't seem to get excessively bent about the rumors, but is mainly bothered because it upsets his wife (unlike others we all know about) also leads me to believe he's telling the truth when he says he's straight.

At any rate, they seem to love each other very much, the kids are well-loved by their parents, and everyone seems genuinely happy, which is rare enough in this world, much less in showbiz. May they always be so...

I've said this before on CDAN but they used to live near me in Melbourne and were disgustingly touchy feely ALL THE TIME. i once busted them pashing in the ice cream shop. They are also disgustingly nice.

i wonder if i could just write a script that could write the same thing every time Enty does a snarky Hugh Jackman is gay post.

I think she's very hot. She's a beautiful, sexy, stunning older woman, who Gasp ! pearl clutch! is twenty pounds over weight. If he's straight and they're happy, good for them. I don't buy it. Say he's not gay all you want, do interviews every five seconds, rail and cry that it's so hurtful and unfair. BUT, he gives off a kind, sweet, feminine, caring, interior decorating, apron wearing, sweater knitting, cuddling by the fire with steaming hot cocoa (with a man), cupcake baking, man smooching, domestic partnership having, vacationing in Maine to see the foliage change, Will and Grace loving, well groomed, well dressed, well mannered, well controlled closeted beautiful sexy, gay man. But I could be wrong.
