This A list mostly television actress gave her significant other a big check, calling it a bonus, so he could get the ring she wanted for their engagement.

She's been hustling a long time to stay in this biz, she made the $$, she should get the ring she wants.

I thought the damaged hottie had 3 rings waiting around.

How long into diapers and crying until reality hits her and she loses her shit? 3 months? Could she possibly afford 24/7 nanny AND paying a dude to pretend to love her?

I like JLove. She'll have a suitcase of IOU's (like Harry and Lloyd) from her fiancée but as long as she's happy and he loves her and treats her good I don't think she cares.

Speaking as a woman who appreciates equality but still likes to be treated to a restaurant meal from time to time, expecting a guy who earns much less than you to go into debt for some giant sparkler is really crass.

If it's all about love, let him buy what he can afford. I once saw a diamond about the size of a record needle on a colleague's finger, but 15 years, 2 kids and a lot of tough times later, she and her husband are still together.

I think it's a somewhat respectful way to handle the situation. Personally I don't give a shit about rings and hate diamonds, but I get that it's important to some people so why shouldn't she get what she wants?

Agree with nopester.

Women equate the size of the diamond by how much the man loves them. No way Jennifer was going to go with a 2 month paycheck diamond.

My only issue with this is. If she gave him the check through her production company that produces The Client List. Then she didn't actually pay him. Those were funds that could of gone to the crew that would of appreciated and deserved it much more.

Seems kind of semi-fraudulent to me.

I admire JLH, really. She's very proactive, AND she gets the ring she wants plus a tax write-off!

I just hope she doesn't have a daughter. All she will teach that child is the only thing important in life is having a man want you. She needs to spend her money on therapy and try to sort out why she needs love so desperately that she will pay for it.

It's important to have a large diamond. Otherwise, you can't dowse it as much of the blood of the children who died to get it for you.

Besides, it's not like you could use that 15K for anything like a house or car, right?

I get why she did it because it's her. That's a big deal to her, but not to all of us.
My husband and I looked at rings beforehand just to get an idea what we liked. I told him not to spend too much. Our three rings cost $800 and we still have them after 14 years. My friend is always telling me, "You can get a bigger one now. I asked my husband for an upgrade and it's way bigger now." I still just have better things to spend my money on then a something to look at on my finger.

At least she isn't marrying the guy because hes rich Otoh he may be marrying her because she is.

I thought there was already a blind item saying he was with other women? Poor J Love!

Am I the only one who hates solitaire diamond rings? I just think they're ugly, not to mention impractical. how can you get anything done with one of those on, sticking up so high?

Lucas said...

I don't think you are starting your relationship off on the right foot if you are telling the guy what he can bring to the table isn't good enough. But that's just me.

I agree with you figgy certainly the obscenely large ones - on an episode of Knotts Landing one of the characters drowned because her huge emerald ring got caught in the pool drain cover and she could not get it off her finger and no one was around to help her. That haunts me still LOL.

Pink diamonds are rather nice but so are pink sapphires and they are a fraction of the price of even white diamonds. I've always thought that one of the simple Celtic rings would be very romantic, like the love knots or the claddagh, or a family heirloom, something symbolic that showed some thought or feeling went into it rather than just money.

I have seen women upgrade the wedding ring like within a year or two of the wedding and take the diamonds from the original ring. I could never destroy the original ring unless of course the marriage ended. And hello ladies, if you need more diamonds there is the anniversary ring you can jones for, if the marriage lasts long enough to hit a milestone.

Yes, because nothing screams true love like telling your fiance what to buy instead of having him take the time and care to pick out something he thinks you would love. I suppose she'll pick out his tux, too. If they ever make it down the aisle.

That is a completely nonsensical way of looking at it. The only people who would have "paid" for that bonus would be the owners of the production company, and presumably JLH had it credited against her ownership interest.

Yep this relationship is going to last...he's also been seen out with other women

I wasn't in to jewelry when I was younger; I asked for a rose garden instead of an engagement ring. My Daddy and my husband dug it out by hand and planted all the plants I picked out. 23 years later it is still gorgeous and I have had a few brides get married there and many happy memories...

I have a plain gold wedding band. It was my great grandmother's and probably cost 10 dollars in 1920. I wouldn't trade it for all the diamond mines in the entire world.

Some people like the fancy stuff, though, and more power to them. I wouldn't want to embarrass my bf, though.

What Mr. Wolf said. There are legit diamonds out there...but how can you know which is which?

Profane I have worked at enough places to know how monies are handed out for owners and other benefits. She can give him a bonus and it be a bonus. When the intent is to get her a ring.

It's not illegal it is just how the game is played.

A managing Partner at an accounting firm I worked at expensed his daughters wedding. The firm paid for it not him personally.

timebob said...

and to add if you don't know Profane. The baby daddy is a co star on her show. That she produces. That is how the bonus gets dolled out.

The ring deal was a no win situation. Imagine the reaction if she had a normally size engagement ring. I think she handled the situation fairly well.
I'm more concerned that her body will never be the same and the world including me never got to see that elite chest.

If she can afford it and he doesn't mind, all the power to them both. However, the "bonus" as mentioned by timebob, is shady if it went through the company, but what else is new. One of our vip's expensed a vacation to a nice resort because he talked to a "contact" while he was there, even though nothing came of it and the contact probably wrote it off as well. I have to turn in my parking expenses every month and it's always a month behind for reimbursement. I should say I met a vip in the car park and we chatted about business so it's a write-off.
Please stop saying every woman wants or expects a giant ring! I like my little silver band and wouldn't trade for a huge rock at all! To each their own.

Mrs. Dingle never had a diamond ring, just her deceased mother's wedding band. She said the ring she really wanted we couldn't afford, and even if we could afford it, she'd rather spend that money on the downpayment of a house. We found beautiful bands, on sale, and to this day, she wears her mother's band and her band. Then we bought our first house, again she was asked if she wanted her perfect diamond engagement ring. She replied, no, I'd like a second home closer to the now growing up children. We make a good match. All this time and I believe marriage is bound together by love and commitment to marriage. Not expensive rings.

I agree that the idea is that the man picks and buys the ring out of love!

But if you really want a specific ring, why not buy it together? Why not pick it together and both contribute to it?

The problem I have with this is the hypocrisy of it.

That's awesome :) three cheers for the Dingles!

Shame none of the 20 engagement rings that she previously bought would do the trick. She could challenge Neil Lane for diamond stock.
