I can't even wrap my head around this story. So upsetting. So glad she was found, but I can't imagine how her and her dad feel. So much evil out there, man.

@David, an Amber alert is a wide-net news story on every available medium in order to get the word out quickly that a child is missing. In this case, it also went to as a text message to millions of mobile phones in the area fairly late in the evening, awakening many people. This angered some of those people, and some of them have re-set their phones to avoid all future Amber alerts, including those in the daytime.
I am so glad for her and her family, but she has got to be so messed up. I hope she heals.
I hope this girl gets some good therapy. (She looks so much like my niece it's heartbreaking.)
To those people who switched off their Amber Alerts permanently in annoyance: assholes.

It is the Amber Alert that everyone was complaining about. We just moved to SoCal last week and the night we go in the alert went out. We assumed it was common practice around here and were glad that if anything were to eve happen to our kids, word would get out super fast. I guess a lot of people here complained about the "annoyance". I hope they now understand the importance of time in these matters. Those couples saw the Amber Alert. Hannah was found. That is the goal, isn't it?
@Ooopsy-Daisy, did the couples who helped find Hannah see the Amber Alert immediately, or the following morning?

@Melancholy Baby, I'm guessing most people agree that an Amber Alert is a good idea.
Where the dissent comes in is whether or not it's necessary to disturb thousands, perhaps millions, of people's sleep to get the news out as quickly as possible, or if the Amber Alert would have been just as effective, say, the next morning.
It seems to me like the people who spotted Hannah got the news the next day, or several days later. Ergo, sending it out the alert immediately was not effective, efficient or necessary.
Disturbing thousands of people's sleep is not just an 'oh, poor baby is missing her hrt beauty sleep' issue. Sleeplessness causes an enormous number of vehicular and industrial accidents, probably more than alcohol.
Furthermore, the Amber alert is now that much less effective because of those who have unsubscribed.
Bottom line, sending the Amber Alert out at that time was not necessarily the smartest public policy decision, and certainly not in the interest of future Amber Alert cases.
Of all the things to complain about... People are ridiculous. I think everyone would agree that if their child was abducted at 2 or 3 in the morning, they would risk "inconveniencing" anybody and everybody in hopes of spreading the word. And in this case, it resulted in a daughter being returned home and a father who just lost his wife, son and dog with his daughter.
I am so glad that she has been found, but I am a little bit disturbed by what seems to be an abundance of photos of this child that were easily available. I know that some were released by the family to help find her, but parents PLEASE tell your children under the age of 21 to put their Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Tumblr accounts on PRIVATE.
If you insist on falling asleep clutching your phone, sometimes you're gonna get woken up by it. Just sayin'. Put the damned thing in the kitchen or something!
I didn't know she had been found. I thought she was probably dead. They had a vigle for her at her high school last week, and interviewed her friends. One of them said that mid week Hannah's phone started giving a different message. The message sounded just like the one a friend of mines gave when his house burned down, and the phone with it. So glad for this girl and her family. She can recover in time with the right therapy. Relieved the sob is dead.
I'm glad she was found and grandma was right. Saves her the additional horror of having to go through a trial.

Okay, I have no kids, but here's something that alarmed me about this case: just how many of the pictures that were shown about this girl were inappropriately sexy.
I don't know, maybe it's impossible to keep kids nowadays (okay now I sound a million years old) from posting sexy pics, but I think that these do encourage fucked up pedophiles like this guy.
These young girls don't realize just HOW provocative their pictures are. I'm not blaming the girl at all, she's just doing what seems to be the norm now...and not realizing what danger she could be putting herself in. That's what parents need to be teaching... controlling? Or is that not possible? Again, no kids here, but it does strike me as a problem.
So glad she's okay, hope she's able to recover quickly, poor kid.
I'd gladly put up with any "annoyance" to save someone's life. Every minute counts. Even if it was late at night, you never know who may have seen something earlier in the day or will see something first thing the following morning.
In recent years I've become unbelievably paranoid about these types of crimes. I have two teens and I always worry. They all joke that my "paranoia is legendary" but honestly I can't help it. We are currently in vacation in a beautiful spot in the Midwest where there's virtually no crime and when my daughter wanted to go for a run, I felt my heart clench. I can't seem to get past it.
Honestly, I don't know. The alert was also on the digital signs on the 405 describing the car and plates.
To be fair, my phone went off around 11pm PST, which isn't terribly late.
I got this amber alert twice, once around 11Pm and once about 2AM. I'd gladly wake up again to make sure another kidnapped victim could be saved.

Here in NY, Amber Alerts go out through everyone's cell phones immediately. I received one just a couple of weeks ago in the middle of the night. So what? I prayed for the safe return on the missing baby and went back to sleep, grateful that millions of people would be alerted immediately if, God forbid, something were to happen to one of my children! Anyone who would complain is a useless twat.
Also, @Nutty_, the fact that everyone in Cali was alerted and she was found in Idaho is bound to make even more people unsubscribe. Amber Alerts are incredibly inefficient and the feds aren't willing to open more jobs to try and fix it.

I live in Cali, didn't get the amber alert till the next day, then I got it twice an hour for about 8 hours straight. Had to restart my phone a few times before it stopped. I know I wasn't the only one that had that problem. That is the only reason why I considered unsubscribing.
I'm an insomniac, and when I am woken in the middle of the night I have a lot of trouble falling back asleep. Sometimes it takes hours.
That said, if they had amber alerts in my country I would absolutely not mind being woken up at 3 a.m with one, it doesn't matter if there's zero likelihood that I'm going to spot the missing child while I'm in bed 2 states away. If the message gets to one person who can help bring that kid back home safely it's worth disturbing the rest of the country.
Honestly something STINKS about this whole story. I am waiting for questions to be asked. I read that Hannah and her kidnapper went on trip somewhere together and it was cut short bc Hannah wasn't paying enough attention to him.
What the WHAT? Who lets their 15 year old travel alone with an older guy????
Also, the first photos of the kids released were totally fake looking, and the dad's press release/conference just sounded so weird and unreal.
Stay tuned kids. I have zero clue why this makes me feel so kinky but the story just doesn't add up.
