Paula Deen Is Still Racist - But Wins Court Case

Lisa Jackson sued Paula Deen and her brother saying she was subject to sexual harassment and racist behavior. Paula gave a deposition in the case and her answers to the questions caused her to lose everything she had attained. Yesterday, a federal judge said that since Lisa Jackson is white, she is not allowed to sue for race discrimination. I think that would be a very interesting thing for her to appeal. For now though, the race claims are gone although the rest of the suit is in place. Even if you are white, shouldn't you be able to sue someone if they are running around calling everyone the N word? How is that different from creating a hostile work environment sexually? The courts have ruled previously that you can sue for a hostile work environment based on sex, so why not race?

Her lawyers made it seem like Paula was vindicated. She was not vindicated. She is a racist. So far, she has escaped this portion on a technicality that I think presents interesting legal possibilities.

Well the damage is done, PD has pretty much lost alot of her empire because of it. But I still think it is a f'd up verdict.

Seems like CDAN is race baiting to me...I think I should file a discrimination lawsuit!

Whoever is presently writing this site, please remove the boilerplate about being a lawyer, because it is obvious you are not. I won't even go into the myriad of inaccuracies and ridiculousness in this post, because it isn't worth the time. Suffice to say, what's been presented here is a gross distortion of reality and the questions posed are ones that no 1L would be stupid enough to ask.

Well she lost her shows, her endorsements and is probably open to more lawsuits...she's a looser anyway you look at it..

The media built her up and the media took her down--its the American way.

I am continually saddened by the people lining up to defend this woman's words.

Oh New Enty, you make me smile when you still try using the old lawyer bit.

Thanks Dewie. This certainly is not an attorney writing this. If so, they would know the basic differences in law here and would not try to get readers all riled up over misleading info.

I feel bad for her. Who here hasn't said something innaprpriote at some point in your lives? This woman lost everything for admitting she used a word she shouldn't have 30 years ago!!

I find that everyone is extra sensitive about race these days. The issue is we don't HATE other races, we just don't understand their culture. The media does a disservice by constantly portraying black men as thugs . So after awhile you start to think "Hmm is he going to rob me? His pants are pulled down to his ass, he walks funny, etc..." It's etched in our brains from what we see on the news, in movies, and on TV that certain people who dress a certain way are dangerous.
As human beings, this is a natural reaction to cultures that we don't understand. We fear them.
Don't get me wrong, there are indeed some sick people who hate certain cultures and are a detriment to our society.
For the rest of us, we need to stop the name calling. I hate being referred to as a "white girl" especially because it's usually used in a negative way.
I'm not white. I have dark olive skin (Italian and Greek) but I get grouped into the "crackers" because I'm not black, asian, or latino.
In my opinion, the word N---a or N---r needs to be cut out of the vocab. None of this "we" can say it to each other but "you" can't.
Slavery is something that human beings have been participating in since the beginning of time. It is disgusting and vile, but America wasn't the only country to enslave. It was terrible what happened to the Africans that were taken from their country and forced to do bone crushing labor. They were tortured, raped, and degrated. This is terrible and I'm glad our country was able to right the wrong.
Generations later, there are people that feel they need to relive this terrible time in history. They use the excuse that only they can say N---r to each other bc it was their struggle. No, it was someone you were distantly related to that struggled. It keeps us even more separated when you limit which races can say what. You can never truely become one.
I rant here because I think we are throwing stones when we are all guilty of an equivalent offense. She's a scapegoat for being a "cracker", which we've recently learned is just a plain term for a white person and not the racist term we grew to know.
So now we are being told what is and is not considered offensive.

I blame the media for why Zimmerman is called a racist. Zimmerman lives in a community that turns on the news each night and sees stories of men, dark-skinned men, who are dressed a certain way causing crimes. I live nearby Sanford for awhile and saw what the news was like. It was awful. So, was Zimmerman wrong in shooting Martin? Yes, but to him, he was dealing with a criminal because Zimmerman was dillusioned by the medias portrayal of dangerous people. He's not racist, just programmed to make assumptions based on someones clothing and demeanor. Just like the rest of us-brown, white, asian, 1/2 italian, spanish, redhaired people.
If we want to truly get passed this, we need to get to know eachother instead of placing rules about what race can say what. The media loves the emotion that is conjourned up by stories like Deen and Martin. They should be spending more time focusing on the good things within each culture rather than painting our villains for us...

If only we could file suit over hurt feelings, what a wonderful world it would be! The Law of the Gossip, Rule by Rumormonger and the language police. Great. You can now drop the farcical pretense that this site is run by an attorney. Thanks

Paula does not get a pass because of her environment. That is horse shit. It went beyond the N word and it's all in the deposition. As someone from the south, I can honestly say she knew better and didn't care.

Dont care.

I'm w/Dewie. there's no way that post was written by a lawyer.

just because the white woman can't sue regarding the race issues, doesn't mean that the african americans who paula discriminated against can't. so, there's that.

and it wasn't just the use of the n word 30 years ago that brought down her empire. it was much much more than that.

What....? This mess, I can't even. Don't hire whoever wrote this as your legal representative, people. Holy cats.

@Snootches -- She didn't lose everything because of something she "said" thirty years ago. The fact that she called a guy a "n****r is irrelevant. Many celebs use that word and get off scott free.

INSTEAD THE REASON PAULA DEEN LOST EVERYTHING IS BECAUSE OF ACTIONS and BEHAVIORS she PARTICIPATED in and ALLOWED in her restaurants and other places of employment associated with the Paula Deen empire.

Read the ORIGINAL COMPLAINT...then...read the DEPOSITION. Two separate documents. She created a HOSTILE and VIOLENT work environment and then CHOSE to LOOK THE OTHER WAY and/or PARTICIPATE in it herself.

Please do not choose to live in ignorance.

Life is too precious to choose to live in a narrow-minded bubble.

+1 Read the deposition people. Then judge. There was some pretty horrible stuff going on in her businesses especially from her brother. And she was at the very least, aware of what was going on but didn't give a damnable enough to stop it.

She's a public person and had a big enough ego yo think this wouldn't affect her? Shame on her.
