Nicole Kidman Grace Kelly Movie Is Awful

Harvey Weinstein is learning what the rest of us already knew. Nicole Kidman's best acting days are long behind her. Her popularity with the audience is even further in the rear view mirror. No one is sitting at home and counting down the days until they can spend $15-20 to go see Nicole Kidman in a movie. I think even her parents probably just take the DVD screener they are sent and then read the blurb to tell their daughter how much they like it.

Have you ever seen a movie based on the fact Nicole Kidman is the star? As bad as Jennifer Aniston's choices and acting are at least she has people who are willing to pony up dough to watch every bad movie she makes.

The latest bomb in the career of Nicole Kidman is the Grace Kelly movie which was supposed to be all over the award season map. Campaigns had been prepared and there was going to be a huge push to get the movie nominated for everything. You know the Golden Globes would jump all over it to make sure she showed up. Who cares if she shows up? Anyway the movie is so spectacularly awful that it isn't getting released this fall and instead will die a quick and painful death in the Spring. That is if it even gets released. Apparently Nicole goes full on over the top and at this point is just a paycheck cashing machine.

I wonder which Enty's puppy Nicole ran over?

Nicole is a good actress, but she's not a mainstream actress. She's best in smaller, more unusual films--The Paperboy, Dogville, Stoker. She probably takes the bigger roles for paycheck purposes, but I suspect her enjoys the smaller films more. They actually challenge her, and she does well with them.

Nicole is a great actress imo. Not sure who shit in Jax's shoes this morning.

It may suck, but she is still a great actress IMO. She was amazing in Stoker earlier this year.

Sure, she's not a big box office draw, but she got great reviews in Paperboy and Rabbit Hole. (I can't believe I'm defending her, but hey...)

I'm not a fan of Goop, but I think she would've made a great Grace Kelly.

Enty also said this summer that "We're the Millers" & "World War Z" would be big flops, & they weren't so we'll see what happens. Personally, I won't see this one because the subject matter doesn't interest me. I have seen Kidman in some great roles lately especially "Rabbit Hole." I agree that she isn't a big headlining draw. I think she's settled in nicely to some meaty indie roles.

Agree. Nicole is an amazing actress.

Jax is hating hard this morning.

Um, I don't know who Today's Faux-Enty thinks hates Nicole Kidman as an actress so much. I for one enjoy her performances very much.

She might not be a nice person in real life, but if that's how I decided which movies I'd go to see, I'd be limited to animated shorts.

Every artist has hits and misses. That doesn't mean she can't act. She's not the only component of the film. And just because critics hate it doesn't mean that's the be all, end all.

She was fab in To Die For.

Laura said...

Now I want to support her even more. I hope she wins a best actress award in near future so you can suck it!

Lilbeach said...

I agree, she is a pretty good actress... Not to mention she escaped the Scientology crazies... Scores a bonus point with me!

Jax-Enty needs to suck a bag of dicks or something.

I've enjoyed some of her work. Pfffffft!!! So there, Jax-Enty!

Nicole is a good actress. You say she can't open a movie, but she has the power to tank the quality od the whole production? Bullshit.

I think it is difficult for any actor or actress to step into a role and play a real life person rather than just a written character--especially when it is someone like Grace Kelly or Princess Diana--two very strong women with a huge media presence throughout their reigns. No one could ever hope to capture the serene beauty of Princess Grace--not even the best of actresses could live up to her legend.

Good actress but this film never stood a chance

I agree a bit with Enty on this...shit am I sick??

I think Nicole has some what lost her edge. She seems all over the place in her most recent movies. Also, with her botoxed face, there is a lack of feeling.

She needs a good director to make her shine or it's going to be a shit show! 2 thumbs down.

The last movie that she was good in for me was Eyes Wide Shut.

Kidman is a great actress and whatever Enty is ,they need to read more reviews on her acting or better they need to see more movies with her

I don't like her acting - even in "To Die For" - and I don't like her persona. I intentionally avoid any movie in which she is cast.

Haven't heard anything good about this movie anywhere. Can't blame her for that. Too bad because this movie could have been great.

Everyone in Nashville knows Nicole and Keith are happily married.

You'll be receiving a bill for me posting that Nicole.

If any Kidman movie sucks, they just need to reshoot a scene and have a full ass shot in it. That will sell a.couple extra.tickets.

Layna, she was amazing in the Paperboy. Talk about a hot mess of a movie, can't decide if it is brilliantly bad in a b-movie kind of way (like Kiss Me Deadly), or just before its time. Anyhoo, her performance was a knockout.

I just saw Stoker, deliciously creepy film!

@sevenofeleven, she gave that photog exactly what he wanted; he probably still basks in the glory of that moment. ;)

Have to agree with Enty and others who think she can't act and is definitely not a draw. Was really disappointed in her casting for this movie.

All movies bomb except superhero movies aimed at 12 year old boys. It's the new Hollywood. Blame the studios. The actors who don't want to spend their career entertaining 12 year old boys have all migrated to premium cable.

Seabee said...

Goop as Grace Kelly? Hell no! January Jones is the only actress working today who looks remotely like Grace Kelly. And as much as people hate her, she can act that icy cool blond to perfection.

Unknown said...

I managed to get a ticket for the screening a couple of days ago. It's a decent movie, the editing and the music is so bad.

She is good, not her best, but she'd of got an Oscar nomination for her acting.

It was just the editing that fucked it all up.

Enty is doing her typical "Nicole Kidman is the worst."

Unknown said...

And she doesn't go "full over the top," not even close. She underacts, much like Grace Kelly did.

It's a very controlled performance.

Another bullshit article.

Susan said...

Agree regarding January Jones.

I don't follow box office results very closely, but it is interesting to me that the only time I hear of people going to the movies is to take their kids to see a kiddie flick or action movie. Aside from LA and NYC, do people really go to the movies anymore? I used to go all the time as a teeny bopper, but people annoy me now. I just wait for OnDemand or HBO to air what I want to see.

Count Jerkula said...

Lazy Day: I don't think them Twilights were marketed toward 12 y/o boys.

Pretty snobbish out look on things too, with the premium cable bit.

In any event, don't blame the studios, blame dollars. Because when one of those big budget super hero flicks hit, they sell tickets, popcorn, sequels, action figures, video games, and untold other dollars. Making a buck is the name of the game.

Also, I finished Wolverine last night. It was OK. Quality was off. Not DVD, but seemed better than camcorder in a theater. I wouldn't buy the real DVD on its own, but if I saw it bundled w/ the first one for $25 I'd grab it.

I really want to see the Punisher vs. Wolverine Saga on film, but they need to make a Punisher movie that doesn't suck first. That would require an R rating, so I don't think it will ever happen.

This Is The End was DVD quality and quite funny. I'm about 1/2 way through. First time I ever heard Emma Watson speak. I'm up in the air if the accent annoys me or not.

I forgot to mention, Hangover 3 had Chinese subtitles.

Nicole is good in alot of roles, but grace kelly is boring and her life is pretty boring. Yes, she was actress who married king but after that she raised family and it was pretty mundane. Her daughters however- now theres a movie!!!

Cheryl Ladd must be the happiest person on earth.

I would be happy if this movie was released, made money, and won Oscars. Just so this En-tern spewing hate can suck it.
And yes, I've seen a movie based on the fact NK is/was the star.

Rose said...

Nicole Kidman doesn't seem interested in making mainstream movies. She may not be amazing in every movie but her movie choice's don't make her less of an actress.

@AuntLiddy exactly what part of Kelly's life was boring? Her innumerable famous male lovers? Even while married to the Prince? Her gay uncle who's fame forced him into the closet his entire life? Her brother's affair with a transsexual when he was running for mayor of Philadelphia? Her wanting to be raped on-screen (in Marnie) while Princess as a act of defiance toward her "people"? Her domestic battles with her children? The possibility her daughter was the real driver in the crash who caused her death? The fact she was on her way to meet one of her lovers when she died? By any measure Grace's life was fascinating. Please don't say such ridiculously asinine things if you don't actually have a clue.

...The a-sexualish and bland Kidman might be the rotten ingredient. The most exciting thing that's she ever done was get hit in a bicycle drive by. And then she just got up with the same robotic expression as always.

@V: The Paperboy is like a John Waters film played straight. It's so audacious. The performances are really good, and it's hard to say the movie is outright bad. It's a trip, though.

Unknown said...

You just sold me on watching Stoker. Thanks.

Angela said...

It's not surprising that the film is bad. It's by the director who did La Vie en Rose, which is actually an actress/producer movie. But every other movie he did is basically awful.
His follow-up movie to La Vie en rose was shot in the US, starred Renée Zellweger and Forest Whitaker plus Nick Nolte, and scored by Bob Dylan (so three fresh Oscar winners) and it still went direct to video in the US, for good reasons.

If there's no producer who's able to reign him in, the result can be incredibly bad. So if a few people with no idea on how to make this kind of film want to produce a Grace Kelly biopic and just hire the guy who already shot a successful biopic taking place in France plus a famous American actress as the lead, it's no surprise it may not work.

For the record, the Weinsteins haven't actually developed the project. They just bought the US rights. And Kidman was indeed very good in Stoker.

BringingUglyBack said...

Doesn't seem mundane to me.

Watched Stoker. Love Mia. Nicole will never be as AWESOME as she was in BMX Bandits. Download it. You'll thank me.

And LOVE Dogville. Not as good as The Idiots, but still good.

Yeah...many of her movies I've gone to see because she was the star.

Would you like me to list them?

I still think they should have let Evan Rachel Wood grow up a little and then play Grace...

@Northbynorthwest, PLEASE share what biographies you've been reading because I HAVE to read this...

Grace Kelly was an all-time beauty, Nicole is not even pretty any more and radiates zero sexuality.

January Jones would have been better to portray her, looks wise. Sidenote: I would love to be one of the lucky guys who gets to knock up a drunk January.

Reese said...

The only thing I've ever liked Nicole in was "To Die For". Charlize would have been much better as GK. Not only is she a better actress, but she is a hell of a lot better looking than Nicole is.

@Tara Oh geez, I couldn't even list all the sources individually they're just too numerous. You can find a lot on Kelly related to those things I mentioned in online articles, in book most any bio by good Hollywood historians will cover such topics. The easiest way is probably had by searching for articles reviewing the various biographies of her online from solid sources like major newspapers (I know the Guardian's written a lot on her) or newsmagazines (The New Yorker, etc).

The info on her uncle George, and a lot various other shocking info, can be found in the Grace bio True Grace By Wendy Leigh.

The info on her brother Jack is well known, you can probably find numerous articles in a Google search, here's one- http://www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20085846,00.html

The info on Marnie is in almost every good Hitchcock bio, for a specific reference- Steven De Rosa's "Writing with Hitchcock: The Collaboration of Alfred Hitchcock and John Michael Hayes" covers it. Or try related entries some of the best Hitchcock sites- http://www.hitchcockwiki.com and http://www.alfredhitchcockgeek.com/

North, no need to get all stabby and name calling. I know all that about her but for whatever reason I find her and whole family boring. So I have a clue, just happen to disagree with you. Yet, notice, no name calling!
