Easy!

My favorite is Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors! So campy, I just love it. Coming in close would be Poltergeist. Can't think of what is scariest right now.

Fave? Elvira. Yep, it's considered horror :)

Scariest? Might be the first Paranormal Activity. Eek!

I wear my class ring in one nipple, my ex-ex-ex-ex-ex-ex-ex-ex-boyfriend's pinkie ring in the other nipple, from which I hang 2 eco-friendly hemp bags. I keep my coffee receipts in there, along with a 3.5 year-old peanut butter & jelly sandwich.

ROSEMARY'S BABY is my all-time favorite. Scariest would be THE EXORCIST, I do believe.

Danny Boyle's first movie "Shallow Grave". More a psychological horror movie but there is a subplot that involves cutting a body up to dispose of it without being caught.

Favorite-The Fury w. Amy Irving
Scariest-Inside which is a french horror movie, it was super gory

Tru Leigh said...

My life is all the horror story I need.

Scariest? Easy - Phantasm.
Favorite?
Anything with Lugosi before morphine, Karloff, Lorre, Price.
And even some of the Hammer films.
But scariest goes to Phantasm.

Great movie!

Both favorite and scariest is The Exorcist. One scene in particular that is repeated several times in the movie still gives me the shivers. It's when the Priest climbs the stairs to the second floor, stops, and looks down the dark hallway to the girl's bedroom. There is some light coming from the bottom of the door. The devil is on the other side of the door. First time I saw that I nearly jumped out of my skin.

Fave- Original Dawn of the Dead

Scariest- The Fog (original duh)

Count Jerkula said...

Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the original.

If stoned and wanna laugh, then the sequel to that one, where they make chili out of the people they kill.

Kristin Wigs said...

@TruLeigh Need to talk it out? I hear the @Count is a great listener.

I'm not a fan of fright flicks and haven't seen one in years. The Exorcist freaked me out and Bette Davis in Whatever Happened To Baby Jane? I know that's a really old movie, but it's stuck with me all these years.

mesewprettyoneday said...

The Exorcist messed me up as a teenager...

tara17 said...

The English remake of The Ring scared the heck out of me. The original Evil Dead might just be my favorite. Poltergeist deserves a mention for both categories.

Alist said...

Favorite "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" the scariest defiantly "The Conjuring"

Alist said...

Definitely*

Willard with creepy Crispin Glover. Rats freak me out.

NomNom83 said...

Favorite: John Carpenter's The Thing (the original '50s version is good but more sci-fi, whereas Carpenter really brought the horror into his version)

Scariest: The Ring (American version)

Unknown said...

Benji: The Hunted. That poor dog was simply terrorized! Where is PETA when you need them!

But five bucks sez the frozen face of Nickie Kiddie as Princess Grace is terrifying beyond description.

Count Jerkula said...

@Kristin: I offer advice also, but do require some photo payment for it.

I hate horror movies since I saw 15 mins of the Exorcist when I was about 14 years old- that fucked me up for years. I want to like them so much but I'm so freaked out I have terrible nitghmares. And my husband travels a lot so dark lonely house is enough to set me off. So the Exorcist ruined it for me and its nasty scary.

auntliddy said...

I saw Wait Until Dark in a movie theatre at about age 15 or so. For whatever reason, it scared the crap out of me and I actually screamed out loud at one part. Only time I ever did that!!!!!!

Seachica said...

Showgirls. That Nomi Malone is frightening.

crila16 said...

This isn't a movie, but it still scares the HHHHEEELLL out of me. The walking Dead.

Barton Fink said...

One of my faves is THE PYX starring Karen Black. It's on Youtube in its entirety -- it's a beautiful film, with surreal moments. The alternate title is THE HOOKER MURDERS. I also like Burnt Offering.

auntliddy said...

Conversely, after married when HBO first came along, hubby and I watched The Exocist". We were in a crazy silly mood-without drugs too!- and we were goofing our dog was possessed instead of a girl. So to us it was ,"Your mother eats dog biscuits in hell", with us rolliing on the ground, and when her head went around, we almost died laughing. All night hubby imiatated her head going around, and us talking in that horrible voice about dogs mother being whore in hell. Still crack up to this day.

Ms Cool said...

@Barton Fink - Burnt Offering Creeped me out!

My list includes:

Salem's Lot - 70's made for TV version
Exorcist
The Ring
Play Misty for me

The Strangers

AndrewBW said...

The scariest movie I've ever seen in my life is the first "Alien". By the time that movie was over I was practically under my seat I was so terrified. I haven't seen it since. If I run into it channel surfing I change the channel. What a letdown "Aliens" was!

Scariest non-horror movie I've ever see was "The Godfather II". Michael Corleone goes to hell.

Sunnyhorse said...

The Believers, starring Martin Sheen and Jimmy Smits.

I forgot all about Phantasm. That was scary!!

Favorite: a tie between Watcher in the Woods and Psycho.
Scariest: not really horror, but Alien (and going back to yesterday's convo, possibly The Island of Dr Moreau)

iheartjacksparrow said...

Agree on both.

AF said...

Prince of Darkness (a John Carpenter classic)!

8====D KermitGossnellKnobjob said...

Scariest: "Showgirls" (I always giggle remembering that quote of one movie in the "scary movie" series).

Favourites: "Dark City" (not really horror), "the crow" (neither), "army of darkness" (more a comedy, but great otherwise), "the toxic avenger" (more a comedy, but great otherwise too), "the wicker man" (the one which is not a comedy, meaning the 1973 version without bees or Mr. Cage), "the serpent and the rainbow" (the first scene is horribly amazing) and "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer".

chopchop said...

In junior high, my BFF & I used to walk to the video store and rent the cheesiest horror movies we could find.

Favorite: April Fool's Day

Scariest: When a Stranger Calls, the original. "Have you checked the children" Gaaaah! I still get goosebumps!

PS. I'm fucking old.

kpist said...

Blair Witch (the original) the first week it was out, I wouldn't be alone at night for that week.

chopchop said...

Since I can't edit, I need to add that my favorite "April Fool's Day" is from 1986, not the recent remake.

L said...

Favourite: everything with Bruce Campbell!
scariest: the Exorcist - it really freaked me out as a child [clearly my parents were insane, since they let me watch it when i was 7..]
I was afraid for months
then again I have not watched The Ring, Paranormal Activities or the sort.

Count Jerkula said...

2 good cheesy horror movies: Bad Taste and Class of Nuke Em High. Crap, 3, as I have to add Re Animator. Thank you to Fangoria magazine for introducing them to me in 8th-9th grade.

Texas Chainsaw M ('74) was fun as Hell. Not so much scary, though

Cape Fear (Scorsese remake) made me almost mess my pants. That was a scary movie.

Gayeld said...

That one still gives me nightmares.

Gayeld said...

Have you seen the original? With Bruce Davidson? Much creepier.

Gayeld said...

>>Salem's Lot - 70's made for TV version<<

The younger brother scratching at the window. God, I loved that so much. It still creeps me out.

>>Play Misty for me<<

*SQUEE*

Kelly said...

@chopchop
We did that too. Ever rent Basket Case? THE most awesome cheese fest EVAH.

Kelly said...

And don't forget Sleep Away Camp. That one grossed me out.

Gayeld said...

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (the one from the 50s, not the remakes.) I remember staying awake all night after watching it at my Grandma’s.

Psycho. I had no problem watching Friday the 13th, but it took years for me to watch Psycho past the shower scene.

Favorite? I don’t think I could narrow that down to even a short list. I used to watch and love every one I could.

BTownGirl said...

The Changeling with George C. Scott and The Haunting of Julia with Mia Farrow (seriously do not watch these by yourself)!

@Barton Fink - Burnt Offerings is great too, agreed!

Krissie said...

My answer for both is all the "Friday the 13th" movies. Jason Voorhees has always scared me more than any other horror movie character.

I also like all the cheesy horror films from the 1980s, that was the best decade for horror. "Chopping Mall" "Pieces" "Happy Birthday to Me" etc.

I don't like the "torture porn" horror movies that were big in the early to mid 2000s. They weren't scary, they were just gross.

Unknown said...

Favorite is Thirteen Ghosts. I watch it every Halloween. F. Murray Abraham, Matthew Lillard, Tony Shalhoub - what's not to love? Shannon Elizabeth is also brilliant, of course.

HannahBanana said...

Favorite: Carrie (original)

Scariest: Psycho (original)

My favourite horror film is an old one from the 1950s, "Night of the Demon," (released in the US as "Curse of the Demon"). It starred Dana Andrews.

I'm a horror writer, so I don't usually find horror movies scary.

stigs84 said...

My favorit horror movie is Creepshow 2.

Scariest - Idk that I've ever been scared of a scary movie but I will say, to this day, I still can't watch a single episode of Unsolved Mysteries (the original one with the scary music, not the ones that air mow with Dennis Farina)

Also love, Sleepaway Camp, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Possession with Isabella Adjani ans Sam Neil!!!!

Oh GAWD so much more but I'm not going to be that one.

Orvilla Bedinbacher said...

Oh snap gotta put Carrie. Ooo child! Scared the crap out of me when I was little.

The Original CDAN Reader said...

SCARIEST AS A KID
It’s Alive! The baby was totally fake but the creepy music and the idea of a deformed devil baby crawling around in the bushes attacking people was super scary for me.

SCARIEST AS A TEEN
Silver Bullet. When Cory was buzzing around in that little motorized wheelchair in the middle of the night my heart was pounding out of my chest.

SCRARIEST AS AN ADULT
That Human Centipede shit creeped me out. Ugh...

FAVORITE
Too many faves to pick just one. I lean toward suspense more than blood & guts, but a little humor takes the edge off, like American Werewolf in London, Aliens, or the 1st Scream. 28 Days Later was awesome and I really liked the 1st Saw, so I’m all over the map.

BTW – Walking Dead TOTALLY ripped-off Aliens with the dripping water and zombies crashing through the ceiling last Sunday. I understand that “everything has been done before” and the fun part is in the delivery. I still enjoyed the premier, but I was rolling my eyes so hard during Talking Dead when the new showrunner said they pulled that idea out of their butts.

The Exorcist.

Tru ha! Not that your life is a horror, it was just a funny comment to read.

For some reason the US version of The Grudge scares the living shits out of me. Baaahhhh it is making me spasm just thinking about it.

This shit is the scariest thing I have ever seen. I can't watch it ajkdjkdfkjadsjhads gaahh again with the fear spasms. Seriously, if you do not like snakes, then do not click the link. Don't touch the big red button!

chopchop said...

Oh God Unsolved Mysteries used to creep me out too!

The Changeling is terrifying!!! I had so many nightmares as a kid.

Dolly72 said...

Well...The Exorcist was definitely one of the scariest...the uncut version with her going backwards down the stairs:( Jesus, that was creepy! Thirteen Ghosts was probably the coolest horror movie I have seen, love the originality.
Best made for TV movie would be tied with Salem's Lot (the finger to the glass just gives me chills) and Don't Go To Sleep (again, the pizza cutter rolling up the banister...brrr)Original Evil Dead gets 2 thumbs up as well!

I love the Walking Dead! Their flesh eaters are so cool. I love the new red eyed ones in this season. Did anyone notice the red eyed walker Rick was looking at?

As far as movies go, the 1979 'Salem's Lot directed by Tobe Hooper still creeps me out. I can't believe that was on TV with the vampires inching toward them!

Also, the original Dawn of the Dead. I love my flesh eaters. I liked Land of the Dead too with Simon Baker.
