Blind Item #14

This A list celebrity/diva uses box wine poured into empty $25,000 bottles she drinks herself. She makes her guests think they are getting her special stash of wine.

I don't care who this is, but I think it is hilarious. And sounds like Mimi.

could definitely see this being Jenny from the block.

Or Mariah.

Hahaha! OK, that's funny. I know someone who actually does this (not $25k bottles, though!). She passes herself off as a wine snob and her friends all believe it, so they think the cheap wine they're drinking actually came from a winery she visited a few years ago and was saved for this special occasion. Trust me, I know what two buck chuck tastes like and it's not Sokol Blosser.

I can see Oprah doing this

That's what they get for being wine snobs. There are plenty of wines under $20 that are quite good. We had a "cab" party and everyone chose the $9 bottle in a blind taste test. Granted there were no $25k bottles in the offerings but still, just proves the point.

Actually, Sherry is correct. The quality bet A $10 bottle isn't that much different than a $40 bottle.

Isn't Streisand known to be frugal like that?

Awesome.
I would love this to be Goopy.

I can see doing this for funsies; just to listen to pretentious snobs prattle on about the bouquet and mouth feel.

"Ah yes. The '42 Chateau Mouton was an especially stellar year. The vines were watered with the tears of the Vichy French; saddened because Goering confiscated the Jewish art before they could."

Ha! I love that!

Is this the same actress who came to a friend's dinner party, saw the $20 wines, and sent out for a case of $200 wines so she wouldn't be embarrassed?

Lol we used to do this for rush in college except with hard liquor.

Not many people especially freshman can tell the difference between Absolut and McCormicks/Gilbey's in an absolut bottle.

Matthew - Fun fact: You can put crap vodka through a water filter a few times to make it a whole lot better. Or, at least from an article I read a few years ago. It allegedly makes it taste like the good stuff.

Box wine taste better than some of those fancy limited edition wines. She is doing them a favour! Lol!

If Mariah's taste in cheap pie-toppings is any indication (see Random Photos today), then this is her.

I don't think JLo drinks much, if at all. We know Mimi drinks like a fish

I was a bridesmaid for a friend of mine a few years back. When everyone was poppn'Cristal champagne. The wedding was beautifully done and she was working with limited funds. We ended up buying used Cristal bottles off of ebay and refilled them with Asti right before the reception. No one knew the truth but us! All of guests thought they were cool. Those pics are high-lar-ious!!!

Mariah seems longer like cheap lying trash.

Sorry just seems like.

This sounds SO Madonna. Only Madge is self-absorbed enough to not only think she's the only one who deserves the good stuff but also think nobody will notice she's serving the bad stuff!

I loved your story @AsileM. Very cute.

For real wine tastings, the tasters are put into separate booths with superdark lighting (sometimes blacklight) and served wine in black glasses that obscure the color (the color, strangely, is a huge influence on what people believe they are tasting). You have to hide the label, the color, and you can't let people see each other's faces, as wine drinkers tend to use all of those cues to "taste" wine.
