Monty Python Reuniting

On Thursday morning we will know all the details but for now all that is known is that the surviving members of Monty Python are going to be reuniting for a stage production that will make them a lot of money. To make a lot of money the show will have to have an extended run which means either a New York and London engagement of several months or less likely a world tour. It has been 45 years since the group first showed up on television screens and a couple of them could use some money and the rest miss the fame they once had. I bet the figure if the Rolling Stones can keep making hundreds of millions of dollars a year performing throughout the world the 70 something comedians can also make a few bucks. The idea sounds great but I wonder if they will still have the magic.

  1. Hell yes, count me in. Tthe only question is, do I need to book my flight to London, New Yprk or Las Vegas? I'm betting on the former.

  2. Funny, just yesterday I was reading about Gilliam and "Brazil". How it was almost like the studio wanted it to fail. He took out an ad in Variety asking when they would release his movie.
BAM, won quite a few awards (after he allowed illegal copies to be leaked)
    Love Monty Python

  4. I can't even begin to say how ridiculously happy this news makes me!

  5. They certainly have a lot of material to work with these days as I would hope they do some new stuff.

  6. Are they going to do new material or just old stuff? I love Monty Python, but after having the VHS and cassette tapes, I have heard the Parrot Sketch 4700 times.

  7. Bugger off, Enty. This is the most awesome news since "Dumb and Dumber To."

  8. Oh, and Enty: age doesn't affect humor or the spoken voice. However, after seeing Deborah Harry stumble through the Blondie catalog, I've realized that musicians just are crap once they reach old age. Bring on Monty Python (and if it hurts....well, it's just a flesh wound)

  9. Can Enty stop being a twat for just a millisecond? It's Monty Python! Have a bit of respect, yah?

  10. Bacon, I loved Brazil, didn't know that interesting tidbit. Haven't seen it since it came out, all I remember is Deniro and lots of pipes, must resee!

  11. I love Terry Gilliam!

  12. I suspect Cleese is still trying to pay off his cunt ex-wife. Regardless, I'd be quite interested in seeing something.

  13. Is the reunion TENUOUS? Cause if it happens, that's AMAZING! I wonder how they'll costume their non SIZE ZERO FRAMES?

  14. You really have to be in the mood for their humor. If you are , its great. If not, its just frigging annoying.

  15. I love the boys, but a few years ago Palin and Cleese reunited on SNL for the parrot sketch and it was painful to watch.

    It fell very, very flat.

I also saw Carlin on stage a few years before he died and it wasn't the same as watching him on television. It was a lot like watching grampa on stage saying dirty words.

Here's hoping Python can rekindle the magic!

  16. Hopefully it will be filmed for cable

  17. auntliddy, your statement can apply to most humor in general. For Python fans, at least, this is great news! Probably the promoters too.

  18. Oh hell yes! I saw Spamalot on Broadway when it opened and I loved it. My husband does not get their humor at all but I may have to fly out and see it with my best friend. I have all the Flying circus on VHS somewhere, and I have the All the Words books. Eric Idle is my favorite. i love the fast talking wordplay and puns,

  19. I believe Eddie Izzard has performed with them before. I don't know if he fills in for Graham.

  20. Gawd yes that Parrot sketch on SNL was painful. The timing was off and they looked embarrassed. But I am a huuuuge Monty Python fan and hope they can bring the magic. And Brazil ranks as one of my all time favorite movies along with most anything Gilliam has done..Time Bandits anyone? (Nice tidbit BR!)

  21. The problem with this is their humour was way ahead of it's time, and very close to the wire.

In these days of over-sensitive political correctness then they will be restricted to sanitized humour if it's for TV, and it'll bomb. All of their camp/gay skits for instance would be cut, anything that is national stereotyping - and that's pretty much their entire routine.

Their TV series and films are just as watchable today as 4 decades ago, tough bar to reach.

  22. I love Monty Python, but I'll have to break the news gently to my husband who will probably faint from happiness.

  23. Last December, I went to this charity thing in London, where Michael Palin talked about his recent trip to Brazil, his childhood and his days with Python. Then he had Eric Idle come out with a guitar and sing 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life'! One of the happiest moments of my life.

Another great one was the premiere of 'A Liar's Autobiography' at the BFI London Film Festival, with Terry Jones, Carol Cleveland and Palin in attendance. Before the screening, the audience got to shout 'Show us the Messiah!' to Jones, who shouted back 'He's not the Messiah! He's a very naughty boy!' Afterwards, they had Jones and the London Gay Men's Chorus lead a singalong of 'Sit on My Face.' Magic.

  24. Semi-Hijack.

    Who is your favorite Python?

I think I'd go with Eric Idle.

  25. Yes, Eddie Izzard has been proclaimed by them to be the "seventh Python" to fill in for Graham, although in truth the seventh Python is Neil Innes.

  26. NOW EVERYBODY SING!!

    I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay.
I sleep all night and I work all day.

    MOUNTIES:
    He's a lumberjack, and he's okay.
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

    BARBER:
I cut down trees. I eat my lunch.
    I go to the lavatory.
    On Wednesdays I go shoppin'
And have buttered scones for tea.

    MOUNTIES:
He cuts down trees. He eats his lunch.
    He goes to the lavatory.
    On Wednesdays he goes shopping
And has buttered scones for tea.

    He's a lumberjack, and he's okay.
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

    BARBER:
I cut down trees. I skip and jump.
I like to press wild flowers.
    I put on women's clothing
    And hang around in bars.

    MOUNTIES:
He cuts down trees. He skips and jumps.
He likes to press wild flowers.
    He puts on women's clothing
    And hangs around in bars?!

    He's a lumberjack, and he's okay.
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

    BARBER:
I cut down trees. I wear high heels,
    Suspendies, and a bra.
    I wish I'd been a girlie,
    Just like my dear Papa.

    MOUNTIES:
He cuts down trees. He wears high heels,
    Suspendies, and a bra?!

    [talking]
What's this? Wants to be a girlie?! Oh, My!
And I thought you were so rugged! Poofter!...

    [singing]
    He's a lumberjack, and he's okay.
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

    He's a lumberjack, and he's okaaaaay.
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

  29. I love Monty Python and now will have Always Look At The Bright Side of Life going through my head for the rest of the evening. Join me, won't you?

  30. Graham Chapman was my favorite along with Michael Palin, who I always had a crush on. :-)

  31. Quick point.
    They're Monty FREAKING Python.
They can sit on chairs on stage and read from the phone book.
People (including me) will still sacrifice limbs to see them live.
