The Sazerac is a local New Orleans variation of an old-fashioned cognac or whiskey cocktail, named for the Sazerac de Forge et Fils brand of cognac that was its original prime ingredient. The drink is some combination of cognac or rye whiskey, absinthe or Herbsaint, and Peychaud's Bitters; it is distinguished by its preparation method.[2] It is sometimes referred to as the oldest known American cocktail,[3] with origins in pre–Civil War New Orleans, though there are much earlier published instances of the word cocktail.

Hell, in my neck of the woods, it's tough finding a bartender who knows to use bitters when making a Manhattan. Some have enough trouble with rum and Coke.

not hard if you're in louisiana.

It is better well known in the South.

I love a Sazerac. Also a Vieux Carre. NOLA has come up with some great drinks.

I just started watching Orange is the New Black and I'm really enjoying it! I hope it gets better, not worse but I'm in it to win it!!!
PS It should be called Khaki is the New Black. . . semantics. . .

death at 2am is what i named the drink i had at the most outrageous party i attended post 1970s. absinthe (home brewed) and champagne. lets just say not everyone remembered the agreements that were made that night but it was a rager... never to be forgotten.
