Do you still have cable/satellite or have you pulled the cord?

I don't watch tv. I download.

My satellite should be home next week. ShiZbot.

FSP said...

Aww, thanks for asking Enties! I pulled the cord.

Still on cable (Comcast) here. Too far for OTA broadcast TV, and satellite isn't an option in this apartment building.

In year 12 psych we had a social experiment to see how susceptible people were to peer pressure. So we had to introduce a not oft used term/word in our social group and see if it took off. My word was "dingo". It worked! Every derogatory term for a few weeks later was dingo (took my baby)

The only thing I watch on TV is football - everything else, it's much easier to stream or download.

Roku

FSP said...

Aww, I like football too.

Seven : I LOVE football (AFL). My husband hates it.
Fit dudes running around in short shorts? Yes please!

Still got satellite for the 87 Quasar.

After switching on the telly and seeing Police Academy 5, and another "reality" show, I've decided to read books, listen to vinyl and masturbate.

We have Comcast but it succcckkkksss and we're thinking about pulling the plug and getting Roku n

Roku for several years now - but we have antenna for football that's on network tv.

I'm so tired of Comcast sucking my bank account dry with it's exorbitant monthly fees. But I do love watching the TV! Which leaves me between a rock and hard place. Shazbot.

We have satellite here, but only the roommate watches it. The final straw was when I tried to watch "Catfish" on MTV. It had a 40 minute runtime, in a 70 minute timeslot. Thirty minutes of ads, and I gotta pay for that? Hell no!

Plus, gold ol' rabbit-ears TV is so much better. I get like 25 channels, stuff like PBS and channels that run old shows (with 10 minutes of ads, not 30!).

I just bought my husband a Roku for Christmas and am about to pull the cord. I'm a little nervous... mainly because I spent the week after Christmas glued to the couch watching so much TV.

Rach Around said...

What's Roku? It sounds like manga

Theresa said...

Was cable/satellite free for 2 years and loved it! Moved and it was cheaper to add cable to the internet than to pay for internet on it's own. Silly. For $50 I have internet, home phone and cable. If I did only internet it would be $55

I missed why FSP has become overly nice...

Zeeky: when we have kids we can tell them about the good old days when we didn't have Facebook and we had tv antennas

Love love LOVE my DirecTV! Hence my name... I couldn't live without my DVR!

Lurker Girl said...

I have DirecTV, but just bought daughter a ROKU for her room (refuse to pay for another box)I'm using it as an experiment if I can cut the cord (trash the dish?). I already have Netflix that she can stream and the other channels are not too expensive..seeing if there is a cost savings. I beat up DTV all the time on pricing so my bill is only $62 a month for DVR and 2 other boxes. My prob is that antenna doesn't get all the channels where I live in the sticks

CK76 said...

Bought a Roku, antenna, and a simpleTV box---wish me luck!

DirecTV, and Amazon Prime. Gotta watch those Seahawks.

pulled the cord, Netflix and Hulu Plus only now...

If they put HBO, SHO, MAX on smart Tv's I'll only keep cable TV during football season...then again there is an app for me to watch football so I guess I'm just waiting for premium cable to catch up

FSP said...

Aww Err, I'm always nice. Especially to fellow Houstonians.

Sherry said...

Lurker, I just beat up DTV to move my plan to $40 and then they said I would get a free DVR only to find out there were monthly fees (bitch that ain't free in my book) and $20 shipping. The whole idea was to spend less money not more. I may beat them up some more later though.

Looking into Roku now but I have Xfinity for internet and it's in and out constantly. Where I live I amazingly fall into -not commercial, not residential twilight zone for Comcast.

Glitter said...

I have Directv and would love to pull the plug since I watch fewer than 5 channels regularly. I could totally get by with Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Youtube, but my husband must have sports.

Zeeky_Boogy_Doog said...

LOL, Rach! Although they're trying to rewrite that part of history...

On late-nite TV I keep seeing a commercial for this revolutionary product that allows you to pick up hi-def, digital broadcast television for FREE. They've even made a half-hour infomercial for this astounding invention.

It's a TV antenna.

Rach Around said...

Zeeky: at Uni our telly had a bent coat hanger to pick up better reception. I'd like to see them infomercial that!

Err said...

Oh yay! I'm from the Northwest side.

Count Jerkula said...

I have cable and no interest in giving it up.

I had DirectTV for 2-3 years and it straight sucked. Wind, rain, any inclement weather and it went out. I think all the military planes flying over head F'd up reception too.

Then take into account that they said I live outside the NYC area, so they blacked out the Yankee games, when I was paying $10/month to get the YES Network via the Sports Pak.

DirectTV is so shitty that I pay money to the horrible Dolan Family, who run the Knicks and Rangers so horribly that I became a Nets and Devils fan.

Pulled the cord a month ago. Don't miss it a bit.

I'm a tv addict so we have Comcast and every channel. I hate Comcast but I hated Dish even more. Unfortunately my man works for a competing company and we would be able to get a huge discount but it is not offered in our area yet. I really hate Comcast but I hate not having cable even more so I'm stuck.

Renoblondee said...

I can't quit my DirecTV. I love it and my DVR. We are not offered cable where I'm at. @Count Here, our DTV rarely ever goes out. I'm amazed at some of the thunderstorms and it still runs!

auntliddy said...

Still have cable.

Brenda L said...

I pulled that cord, baby.

Kara said...

antenna. No cable where I live. Trees block satellite.

Bessie Smith said...

Theresa, through who do you get internet, home phone and cable for $50.00 a month? If you don't mind my asking?

califblondy said...

I love the football ticket on DirectTV. We used to always get the AZ Cardinals on cable. I don't care what it cost and in nearly ten years my dusk only went screwy once for a short time when it rained really hard.

califblondy said...

Dish not dusk, ugh.

Got Roku 18 months ago and love it.

Janet296 said...

I have an analog tv. I don't even have local channels. I have netflix and hulu. I think people are crazy for paying for cable.

feraltart said...

In Australia & we have satellite. Love it.

ALM said...

Roku w/Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Amazon Prime. Going to get an antenna for football and baseball. I'd pay $$ for a Roku solution for live games.

Little Miss Smoke and Mirrors said...

Still have cable.

Meauxelle said...

I have Time Warner Cable and HATE it. I've tried to get a better deal and they aren't interested in customer loyalty. So, I'm slowly working on cutting the cord. I just got a Roku and have Amazon Prime and Netflix. I plan to keep internet and one box for basic programming.

Jessie said...

We've had Foxtel since I was 5 but when I move out I think I'll look into getting a good internet provider and start downloading everything. And maybe figure out how to get Netflix in Aus.

Henriette said...

Pulled the cord a long time ago, and my bank account thanks me. I use the computer for the stuff I want to see and my antenna works great with a dvr recorder with tuner by Magnaovox if I must record something.

Alexa Rose said...

Just bunny ears, best move ever. We get ABC, NBC, CBS, some random inspiration channel and some shopping channel. Would totally still have cable if they didn't want to charge over 100 bucks a month, we just cannot justify that. Plus, I hate paying for all the channels I will never watch.

Cee Kay said...

Here in Canada, cable means you get to watch the big four US stations. Digital cable and satellite are pretty much the same thing, and I have digital. I love TV!

__-__=__ said...

Cable free 5 years! It's a better life. They should pay us for all the advertising piping into our home. I'm never going back! Nevah I say!!

di butler said...

Comcast w all pay channels, Hulu Plus, Amazon Prime, Netflix. I watch most stuff on my phone or tablet. Bunch of wasted money, if you ask me, but hubby and son love the set up.

I got rid of satellite three years ago. We go Netflix/Hulu/Amazon and I have rabbit ears so I can watch football and CBS This Morning (which is the best morning show, hands-down. The things I'd do to Norah O'Donnell...)

Stepforded said...

I have something called 'SKY' in New Zealand ... it's hideously expensive for what it is though and I'm considering pulling the plug as I'm not home often enough to watch it.

Shocky said...

Netflix through Apple TV, everything else I stream through either YouTube or Project Free TV

On a similar question from a few years ago, I had mentioned that we just ued Hulu and over-the-air broadcasts. Since then, we have worked out a deal with our neighbors to share their satellite while they share our internet. I still watch more Online TV than satellite, but it is sometimes nice to have TV on in the background. We are just lucky out ISP doesn't have data usage limits.
