Blind Item #1

This former A+list mostly movie actor who had a run of movies that raced to the top of the box office a little over a decade ago is now probably a B lister but he will always have A list name recognition. Aging and cranky, the actor was out to dinner the other night and brought his own wine. Several bottles. At the end of the night he got the bill and saw the corkage fee the place charged. He argued over the $50 charge on his $500 tab. The restaurant wouldn't budge and our actor walked out of the place without paying the charge and told them they could sue him. He didn't tip either.

@Kristen a $50.00 service fee for Mels Jesus juice?! How gouache.

This has Costner written all over it.

Impossible. The restaurant would call the cops if this happened. He would have to pay and then later dispute it with his card company.

I like Russell Crowe guess. His top movies were more in line with "hits a little more than a decade ago." I think Mel and costner's hits were couple decades ago.

What about Gerard Butler?? He had a bunch of hits, then major crash and burn

Ben Stiller or Keanu Reeves?

I'm totally on this guy's side.

And, no, Katie, it's by no means impossible. It's called paying in cash.

At least he reads his receipts! Evidently he's not stupid.

@JAS---that figures---rude people are usually cheap as hell.

just to be different, Johnny Depp (downward spiral since Charlie and the Chocolate Factory leading to The Lone Ranger). He was so over the top at the Beatles tribute.

Wouldn't this be considered dining and dashing? Had a neighbor do that and he got arrested. Unless this was a major A-lister, the police would have been called or his card charged. I know it was just the corkage fee he supposedly walked out on, but still.

You have to pay corkage fees everywhere.

Tommy Lee Jones? He always seems so crabby to me.

Come on. It's always known you pay a corkage fee at a restaurant. What a loser jerk. If you're smart enough about wine you're smart enough about corkage fees. Otherwise hire a private chef and entertain in house.

I think TLJ would be too classy for this. He may play cranky characters but he's still a southern gentleman.

John Cusack, 1997-2001 was a pretty good run movie wise for him.

If you don't pay the full charge, the police will be called. And if the restaurant was that adamant about not removing corkage, it doesn't sound like they woul just let him walk on it. Paying cash for the rest of the bill would be stupid, in this situation.

Still think Cage for this, he had big hits & was def A list years ago but has dropped. Has his money issues going on. Had that Gone in 60 Seconds car film & likes his bikes & flashy cars which could be hinted at in the blind with the "raced" to the top of box office bit. Seems a douche who would try this kind of thing.

I'm going with Mel. Just because hes a dick and not because I think he drinks wine over whiskey shots and beer.

Would you bring coffee to Starbucks? No. If you side with the guy, not only do I believe you have NEVER worked in the service industry, but you probably think 5% is a good tip. Stay home and eat, ummm k?

I'll be Wiglet today and say Vin Diesel

"Run of movies" that "raced to the top of the box office" a bit over a decade ago (FF came out in what 2001?) yep. Vinnie

Unless he paid the rest of the bill in cash, wouldn't the restaurant just charge the 50 to his card? Actually, I am kinda surprised the place didn't cave on the bottle fee.

I'm sorry but corkage fee is stupid. I can bring my own wine but yOu're going to charge me $50 to open it? Moral of the story: bring your own corkscrew.

I read it as Crowe. He fits the timeline and he's been known to throw hissy fits and telephones.

Gibson's heyday was in the early-mid 1980s. Coster's in the early 1990s.
