Bodhi Ransom

Brian Austin Green and Megan Fox have announced the name of their son and it is Bodhi Ransom. Bodhi is a Buddhist name which translates to enlightenment as in someday hopefully Megan will be Bodhi about what an a-hole Brain is. The middle name is Ransom because it will probably take a huge ransom to get Megan away from the talons of BAG unless he can find someone else he can control like he does her. In the past week of celebrity births we had two completely normal names of Eric (Simon Cowell) and Hazel (Emily Blunt and John Krasinski) so I guess we were do for something strange. I can maybe live with the Bodhi if I thought the couple were actually practicing Buddhists. The Ransom thing I just don't get.

I wish my a-hole had a brain.

"Brain" lol.
It's not the worst name ever. I think Hazel, I think of Hazel thw witch. But then I'm old.

oops i gave the wrong name: Teresa Palmer also named her new son Bhodi

@FSP, was it do for something strange?

Eros said...

Was brain a Freudian slip, Enty. Do you secretly thing BAG is a genius? Enquiring minds want to know.

Also, it may just be a bad picture but brian looks like shit here. Megan is losing her looks a little but like I said could be a bad pic or all the unnecessary plastic surgery she has been rumored to have gotten.

I know an attorney named Ransom. Always thought that was a cool Southern manly name.

I'm not the best spelller myself but "...so I guess we were do for something strange." is just very odd coming from a big-time blogger.

That kid will probably want to get away so fast from those two, they should've named it Moses Milk Carton.

Julia roberts named her daughter hazel after her grandmother. Jenn garner named her daughter after her grandmother. I think thats pretty nice. So mb these are family names-ransom was someones last name? If bodhi wants to be badass, he can be ransom fox. Pretty cool

Do they never think of the children who have to live with these ludicrous names? Who can never escape the stupidity of their parents. My 3 will thank me one day for the frankly rather dull and boring names they have been saddled with.

FSP said...

@7 - it's thinking of taking up Buddhism.

auntliddy said...

Its so weird that both my children like their names, because I always disliked mine. Thought it was boring. My first, middle and last name 4 letters. Borrr-ing. I thought my life wld be an exictic adventure if only i was named katherine or theresa! Then in girl scouts, i met a girl named Giselle. Oh how i coveted that name!!!!! Later i met a knockout named laurel and i wanted her name! She looked like a young lauren bacall, with hair waved over one eye. She was nice too. Ok, enough of my rambling !

do you want some ridiculous names?
i know the twins girls Fleur and Rose Pommier (Flower and Rose Apple Tree)

I'm not sure how it works in the US but here names remain very obviously indicative of the kvass system (rightly or wrongly). My kids' names would put them straight into the middle class bracket. A name like Bodhi would almost inevitably be identified as chavvy (sadly and wrongly) - and there would be no lovely Buddhist association.

Habibti said...

Bodhi is a very common name in Asia. Not really weird.

JSierra said...

Yeah ransom is definitely a southern name. I really don't think his name is bad at all, but i prefer a more unusual name to a traditional one. I like being the only person in the entire world with my name and my kids will be the same way, nothing crazy but definitely one of a kind.

All I think of are Bodhi purses and bags.

i used to babysit a brat named Ransom....horribly spoiled child

sandybrook said...

I thought they named him after Jenna Elfman's hubby. And how much it would cost a tabloid to buy his first picture.

Its just U said...

I bet he loves Point Break

Aw cmon Harry. Enty is hip like the kids. You know hes all: 'what it do' nowadays. Lol

*totally kidding btw lol

When trying to find our baby names we pulled out the old family tree & Ransom was one of the names we were surprised to see several times. I don't mind this name at all...

I just can't with "Ransom." I grew up in the South and I very much appreciate (non-bigoted) Southern culture, and I swear I've never heard of it as a name. All I could ever think of if I heard it as someone's actual name would be a kidnapping ransom. Eww.

Now "Bodhi" isn't horrible. First thing I thought of was the Bodhi tree of enlightenment. I like that.

Finally, I still don't hear "Hazel" as a "completely normal" name. If the famous Hazels are named after a family member, whatever, but I think it's a stodgy and old-fashioned-in-a-bad-way name.

Back in my footloose says I stayed at a magical place called The Bodhi Tree in Phnom Penh so I love the first name. Ransom sounds nice, but I feel like it's welcoming bad luck (I can be a wee bit superstitious)

Good luck I the new parents! I hope Brian isn't as bad as Enty alludes

Katie Hopkins is that you?

I like bodhi ransom sounds Texas ranger-y. I could totally see the dude from burn notice as the lead in that show :)

Lulu said...

Bodhi has actually translate to brain in a couple of Indian languages. Ismaili I think

rajahcat said...

yeah for stupid celebrity kid names......

10 years from now their kids will hate them for that

Sunny said...

@discobitch
My husband shot down my first choice for my son's name because it "sounded too Walker Texas Ranger" with our last Name. Your comment made me laugh

Violet said...

Ha! No. I was just making the point that you could make a good guess at the perceived class of a person by the names of their children. Mr Violets background is as WC as they come so it actually doesn't work well in his case.
And KH is the worlds greatest troll. She plays her part to perfection and is probs making a damn good living out of other peoples outrage.

I've loved the name "Bodhi" ever since Patrick Swayze played Bodhi in Point Break.

@WritergirlinLa - a Lawyer called Ransom? Isn't that what they call Nominative Determinism?

detown359 said...

His oldest son is Kassius so he obviously doesn't shy away from names that aren't mainstream.

I went to a Ransom jr. high school so depends on where you're from in the south AKM.

Kassius & Bohdi...

Two awesome male names.

Aeol said...

Maybe not really weird in Asia. But for two white people in Beverly Hills it's weird.

Aeol said...

I thought I had a unique name and spelling. Lo and behold with 3+ billion people in the world, Google showed me there is no such thing as one of a kind. I'm sure you have a nice name, though.

Kelly said...

I just keep thinking of Bode Miller.

Leekalicious said...

I know Canadians who have named their children: Dallas, Dakota, etc. after American cities...

OneEyeCharlie said...

@Leekalicious: What a coincidence. I have a child named Moose Jaw, and another named Fort McMurray.

TLP said...

Aeol- watch the NFL and NBA and you will see plenty of one of a kind names. Complete with punctuation- sometimes more than once. Lots of Q and Z usage too.

example:

Le'Queyshe

The reason you don't understand the name is because it's impossibly stupid. Like naming someone Lionel Butterdish, it's just dumb and senseless, but for BAG attention getting. Megan is even more pitiful than I ever thought for going along with that name. Doubtful she understands it makes no sense.

Iwinjen said...

Oh I truly hope the Ransom name was to get attention. Ransom is a family name of mine and the thought of being related gives me the crawlies.

Naomi said...

I think it's her way of telling the world is she is being held against her will

AKM said...

Yes, but in that case, "Ransom" is a last name, is it not? I'm not questioning it as a LAST name, but rathet as a first or middle name. (And yes, I know that in the South, family last/maiden names are often used as first/middle names. Given its definition as money given in a kidnapping, I still think it's very weird.)

Sounds like *someone* listens to the Old 97's. ;-)

/my name's Stewart Ransom Miller - I'm a serial lady-killer...

They're growing up rich in Los Angeles! Bodhi fit right in with his peers. I know several men here named Bodhi. In fact, the first guy I dated when I moved to Los Angeles was a surfer named Bodhi, lol!

Rain Clair said...

LOL!

I love the name Bodhi and now it's going to get really popular! I'm bummed. Ransom is bizarre and having it next to the spiritual Bodhi is really off putting. I also think Bodhi Green sounds like a paint color.
