Blind Item #7 - Old Hollywood Blind

This former child star, who was then teetering towards B-list with A-list name recognition after several years of being A+++ list, had to deal with one of Hollywood's most powerful producers, after he invited her to his studio office to discuss the movie that would prove to be a sort-of comeback. He then exposed himself to her and she ran out of the room crying. Fortunately, another actress who was to appear in the same film was waiting in the next room for her daily session with the producer whom she would later marry.

Has enty been trolling around some old actor's rest home gathering these nuggets?

I assume this is about Shirley temple.

Out comes the 7/11 plastic knife if this is supposed to be Shirley Temple. Don't even go there.

David O Selznick for the producer, Jennifer Jones for the actress.

Should I even bother to say Shirley Temple?
Enty starts so early these days. I used to be able to finish work, get home and he'd still not have posted. Now I've just got home and we're on blind number 7 already.

Hi Michele! Welcome!
Please feel free to post anything you want, anytime you want. K?

Thank you, thank you for your kind words! (bows)

@Violet, Enty will appear to be posting an hour earlier for the next 2 1/2 weeks because the US has switched to summer time and we in Europe have not. As of March 31, when we switch, everything will back to normal.

Violet said...

@Nutty - thanks for the explanation. Ahh normality, I will look forward to it.

According to Shirley, she didn't name names, but stated she didn't know what to do & just laughed...this still could be her though...a variation of the story maybe....I thought Natalie Wood, she is more emotional & a cryer...way too controlled & sheltered by mama

crila16 said...

This is Shirley Temple and it's not a blind. I saw a documentary one time, and she out-right talked about it...and actually, she didn't cry, she laughed, which was her natural defense mechanism. The producer kicked her out of his office, because she couldn't stop laughing.

Hi Michele! I'm with Warecat!

Probably a good chance it didn't happen as described but probably was Shirley. Don't think Natalie was A+++ as child actor, in fact, other than maybe mickey rooney or judy garland, who was besides Shirley temple?

The Dude said...

The movie was probably Wizard of Oz, Shirley was passed over for Judy who was a virtual unknwn at the time.

these men are so disgusting. really? Exposing your ugly dick to a little girl? Bastards.

Zanuck for the guy. Must have been before 4pm when he had his daily bj scheduled.

Shirley Temple was offended by the exposure? really, she was an industry baby and should have been privy to the casting couch and all it's sleeze.

Why would she be surprised that her 'comeback' would start on her back? I'm confused. With all the pedophiles in hollyweird.... I'm sure this was not the first time she was approached.

That poor fellow. It must have been traumatizing for him to have a woman go running from the sight of his phallus. I hope the second woman consoled him and gave him the comfort he needed after such a horrible experience.

Unless he had a hoody, then it would be understandable.

@TexasRose - people forget that Elizabeth Taylor was a child star. She became famous for National Velvet (1944), though she was in a few movies before that.

But yeah, this sounds like Shirley Temple.

trudi said...

Shirley's technique should be studied by young girls thinking of posing for Terry Richardson.

I know this is meant to be Shirley Temple, but she told the story of the flash quite often and put a far different spin on it. When he got the old chap out, she took one look at it and laughed her goddam head off.

Paint Chips said...

I agree that it's Shirley. IIRC, she told this story when talking about when she decided to stop making movies, which would make her 21 or 22 at the time - so, definitely a former child. I don't remember her saying she ran out of the room crying, she kind of thought it was funny.

di butler said...

Shirley had her own little home on the movie lot, complete with a princess bedroom. She was quite sheltered for many, many years. As was Liz Taylor. Both married very young.

Hi Michelle, welcome.

Can someone please post what Shirley Temple's reaction was when the product got his todger out?

Love Old Hollywood blinds. Keep them coming.

The really fascinating story here is Jennifer Jones. So much drama. She and David Selznick would throw elaborate parties and she would change clothes three times. C r a z y. They had one child together who committed suicide Tragic. I don't think Selznick's son's from his first marriage ever really said much bad about her, even though their dad left their mom for her. Her first husband was kind of gorgeous and I don't think ever got over her.

Scallywag said...

Shirley Temple was about 15/16 at the time Since You Went Away was shot, so she was probably not in casting couch mode.
