The main sticking point in repairing any type of relationship between this A list mostly television actor and his former co-star is an apology from our angry actor for using the N word. The co-star was really hurt and the A lister didn't see what the big deal was about it.

I agree on Baldwin, but honestly, it doesn't have to be Morgan, I'm not African American but I'd be that astonished & offended. I'll say Baldwin and Fey. I think if there had been a description of the person who thought this way unacceptable it would be obvious.
I don't use the word, but find it completely unacceptable that one part of the population is allowed to use it and another isn't. In any context.

@Sprink... I am a sexy voluptuous black woman (but that's just semantics). I absolutely detest that word, no matter who's saying it. I find it just as offensive whether Paula Deen or black dudes saying/rapping it! This double standard of the word today is what's making some people (*coughaleccoughallegedly*) not understanding the big deal. Yes, it's sad that they don't "understand", but it is what's happening!
Baldwin and Morgan- Morgan has been speaking out about how he thinks Baldwin has issues and needs to pull it together...and said something about how he can't believe Alec used to get on him about needing to pull it together and acts the way he does.
@Ri--you're probably right that the double standard confuses the issue even further. And understand that you hate the word, rightly so.
But you see, I love words. And because I love words I don't want them banned. Banning words gives them more power than they have in their original, offensive, contexts. Banning words impoverishes us and our humanity. Banning words ignores our flawed history and imagines a different one, thus denying us the opportunity to learn from it.
So I will always defend a person's right to use whichever word s/he choose, no matter how loathsome, no matter how thoroughly I detest it. Like that one.
(Then again, what do I know? Maybe ganging up and stamping it out is better. After all, Flat Earthers didn't change their minds, they just died out. And the next generation was simply taught that Earth was round.)
The N word is best left in the history books where it belongs, as historical proof. It makes me cringe when I hear it spoken, especially by whites, because it was used by folk who were buying and selling other people. Ri, I can well understand why blacks would get frustrated with it's use by blacks as a put-down word re other blacks.

@Sprink... I actually am right there with words. LOVE them! Especially when used impeccably :) I would actually not get so squirmy to hear these young cats (of all races) who use it as a term of endearment if they knew, respected, and understood the history of the word. Where it came from... the meaning behind it... when it was used (it was the last word(s) some heard while they were being lynched). IF all this was understood and respected, then, rap about it all you want. But then again, if they really knew, my money would be on that these young cats not ever using it! Then, my fellow Word Lover, that would mean this word would be respected for the power of it! See what I just did there?! LOL!!!!

I hateto think of Alec Baldwin and Tracy Morgan in this situation but it totally fits. I think it's especially sad because Alec's costars really admired him and took alot of advice from him. Tracy Morgan's comments were complicated because they were part of an act and a persona and Alec and Tina immediately commented disapproval before talking to him and I can see Tracy being particularly sensitive to having Tina (his former coworker) as a boss, not supporting him. I think Alec needs therapy. He's a smart and talented man and he has the loose-cannonedness of a crazy person, potentially alienating alot of people unneccessarily.
