Craig Ferguson Is Going To Get Paid

Whether or not Craig Ferguson replaces Letterman, he is going to get a nice big check. If he replaces Dave which would be great, he will get the nice big annual salary. If he gets passed over for the job he keeps his current gig and also gets a $5M bonus for being passed over. That is a big price to pay if you are not going to give someone the job. How does this scenario sound? You hire Craig for Dave's job and move Chelsea Handler over to Craig's job. It is a network and a high profile gig for Chelsea. She gets away from the NBC family and can still keep her brand of humor without any repercussions. She gets to stay in LA and has plenty of time for other projects. She would also get a bigger paycheck and more time off.

I like both of them! Thats an ideal scenario. And Chelsea would be a lot less angry and bitter, which was how i really preferred her.

I thought the Ents said Chelsea was leaving?
I can't keep this crap straight, I don't watch her so it's not like I follow her career track.
Craig should stay where he is. Wow, I would love a 5 million bonus for being passed over. Sweet gig.

witwritergirl said...

That would be awesome!

Count Jerkula said...

NY Daily News has the pass over payment between $8 and 12 million.

They also say that Ellen is a fave to get Letterman's spot. That would be the best thing possible for Kimmel.

Leekalicious said...

I think Ellen would be a great choice. She's a great entertainer.

Now! said...

But why would Ellen want Letterman's spot? She has her loyal audience of housewives, househusbands and nigh shift workers during the day.

White.God.of.Fuck said...

I do not Particularly care for Fergenson and think he would flop like Piers Morgan. Chelsea Handler has addiction issues. I think Howard Stern should get the job.

White.God.of.Fuck said...

Ellen is too bland and too unfunny for the job. According to industry sources, Stern has bern offered the job

Leekalicious said...

@Nutty
That is true - the timing is all wrong for her. If she ever does move to the evening, a lot of PVRs will be sold!

Today is nice Massive G day?
I actually agree with you, Stern could (and has) hold his own with late night interviews. Ellen is too nice and has a great market with the midday crowd.

Sprink said...

No idea about his talk show, but once I remembered who Craig Ferguson was (mercifully NOT Craig Kilbourn, as it turns out), I had to share one of his cinematic gems...

Count Jerkula said...

Vageinfeld is horrible. Has been for decades.

Howard Stern has no chance at the gig. Don Buchwald will float through his newspaper contacts that they are interested in Howard for the gig, but there is still ill will from his CBS Radio departure and his fan base is greatly diminished. Add to that his show hasnt been funny in years and you have the Pelican in a Wig asking the same questions about beer can thick black cock to every guest. All CBS has to do is graph the ratings #s on Stern's Letterman appearances to see the interest wane. His last appearance on Late Night was his first appearance that didn't beat Leno.

Lo Key says stop with the censorship already! said...

G, did you forget to switch accounts again?

Vintage Pink said...

Stern isnt tv friendly, and Ellen is in the best spot. Feel-good wouldnt sell as well at night.
I dont think either will get offered the gig.

I love Craig Ferguson, but I think it would be a mistake to move him to 11:30. He's definitely a 12:30 guy.

tara17 said...

I agree with Little Miss, Craig is great at 12:30. Would love Whoopi for 11:30.

Unknown said...

Craig Ferguson is the only late-night show host who shows signs of life. Keep him at 12:30 - move somebody else in place of Letterman. Dump Craig - you lose me.

Unknown said...

I said this yesterday, but Craig has to stay true to his format. I fear he would lose his creativity and soul of the show by moving to an earlier time slot. I love Craig! I really think he's above the Hollywood pr crap and doesn't care if he's liked by millions.

Stephie said...

I also like Craig Ferguson at 12:30. Would love to see Jon Stewart or Louis CK replace Dave. For a really out there choice, and I doubt he'd even be considered, I also like Greg Kinnear. He was outstanding on Talk Soup.

Count Jerkula said...

Another thing about Stern, and also Whoopi, they are ancient. The networks want to grab a younger audience and retain them for a generation. They are better off taking a chance on somone younger than investing time in a stopgap replacement.

Most folks would not like to see Handler's racist ass ever again.

and I m one of them, with her rude and mean spirited homely coked out ass.

expect to see CBS getting boycotted, folks are already talking about it.

car54 said...

I would never watch Chelsea Handler--the few times I've tried to watch her E show, I've changed the channel because her humor makes her come off as such a miserable bitch. It's not something I want to end my day with.
I like Craig Ferguson ok, but I am not sure he's mainstream enough.
Ellen might be ok, but I can't see why she would want to change what's she's doing--she owns her show now and makes a ton of money on it and all her advertising gigs--why re-invent the wheel? Her current show is very soft and fuzzy, and I think she'd have to sharpen herself up to do late night--she is capable of it, it's just not the niche she's made for herself.

I love that sexy ass Scot! You go, Craig! #getit

Lisa said...

Chelsea would be a disaster. Sorry but it's true.

Greg Kinnear is an interesting thought (i.e. love it) but they'll go with either Kimmel, Conan or Craig.

How cool would Stewart or Colbert be?

just sayin' said...

Did Enty just out himself as someone with a vested interest in Chelsea Handler's career?

childeroland said...

Chelsea's humor won't work on CBS, and Craig can't compete against Fallon and Kimmel. If Colbert or his staff hadn't done that tweet, the job might me his. And is CBS still talking to John Oliver?

Sherry said...

Oh Childerloand! Jon Oliver is an EXCELLENT suggestion. Honestly I really enjoyed him taking over for Jon Stewart this past summer. He was fucking awesome.

I agree with you Couunt. Stern and Whoopi are too old and frankly not funny although could possibly be urbane. CBS has to compete with Jimmy and wants a younger audience. (Or whatever network Dave is on. I don't watch late night anyway.)

Unknown said...

It would be Colbert before Chelsea , in my opinion they would never choose her over him and he wants to do it

Basil said...

How is Handler a racist? She snarks about EVERYBODY, black or white. That is her schtick. She would be a good replacement for Ferguson if they move him into Lettermans job.

But the thing I want to know is why someone would get millions of dollars for NOT being offered a job. Where can I sign up?

Unknown said...

Chelsea is too coarse. Viacom owns Comedy Central Jon Stewart would be perfect

Unknown said...

Love the Kinnear idea. Also,perfect

trudi said...

Stern is almost as old as Letterman. It would make as much sense as asking Leno to fill the spot. Or Regis. Or Barbara Walters.

Handler would be better suited for the 12:30 slot.

I like the NPH mentions because I think he's so talented.

keetz4 said...

Stephen Colbert.

M. Brown said...

The age thing is a big part of this. I think with Fallon's recent ratings Letterman knew it was time to step down. Whoever they pick has to be a viable alternative to Fallon. The combo has to compete with Fallon/Myers. Stern is too old. Ellen is over 50 and would be a fool to give up what she has. Is Ferguson popular enough? No one has mentioned Conan. Chelsea is risky. She's the right age demographic but can she tone it down and will she bring the audience if she does? Stewart would have to be less political and that's his thing now and Colbert plays a character. Love Oliver he could make a good team with Ferguson. I can't see Tina or Amy wanting to do it. I just realized this is the whitest list ever. Is there any non-white person in contention? The former Talk Soup host on The Talk? Wanda Sykes (too old), a Wayans kid?

headrot said...

stern rejected the offer.

i'd watch handler in a late night show like this. that'd be interesting.

also: i wish i got paid to be rejected! jeez, nice set up

headrot said...

@baconranch i understood that chelsea was leaving her previous network. not tv altogether. i think if she took one of these jobs it would take her to a new network.

i could be wrong though.

Unknown said...

Doesn't Stern have his own cable channel in eseence, how is CBS going to fork out that kind of money

Count Jerkula said...

@tina: Howard got tires of losing money with his On Demand channel so he pulled the plug on it. He has nothing else in the works or he would have kept his HTV guys around and filming.

@headrot: Stern never had an offer to reject. That is a Don Buchwald creation, just like when Howard was allegedly in on an Amrican Idol judging spot. The hype Buchwald creates with that led to the AGT job. #SmokeAndMirrors

@M Brown: I would love for Chris Rock to be in on it, but even if black dont crack, dude is 49. You would get 5-10 years out of him. They are going to want someone who if they make it 2yrs will be there 20.

headrot said...

@count this is what i am referencing http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory/stern-late-show-job-plate-full-23203712

Tara said...

Chelsea is actually good for CBS - she has a very bawdy, 2.5 Men kind of humor. Would I prefer her? No. I think I'd like to see Tina or Amy and if Key and Peele didn't have a show already, those two. As black men, it'd be a nice injection of diversity. As entertainers, they're young enough, excitable, culturally perceptive, and FUNNY. They're comfortable lampooning movies, sports, and bringing some Kroll Show writers on board they could do really amazing parodies of television shows. I think they have a lot to offer.

SugarTitz said...

Tina Fey would kill it.. and she lives in nyc . And she could keep normal hours for her family. Especially with 2016 election coming up.

OKay said...

Why on earth are we pulling to keep Chelsea Handler employed, Enty? Tina Fey YEEEEEESSSSSS please!

M. Brown said...

Chris Rock would be great but you are right about his age. He made me think of his buddy Seinfeld. What a way to come back in a totally different role completely unique from his last one. He's been interviewing in a sense with Comediens In Cars and isn't bad. His age works against him but the audience that automatically comes with him is impressive.

Stephanie23 said...

Love Craig but would like him to keep his spot so he doesn't lose what makes his show funny and weird! Definitely not for the mainstream and that's why I love it

PookieTwo said...

Stewart is very comfy at CC, he's well paid and they give him tons of time off to direct movies, which is what he really wants to be doing. They gave him something like two months off last year, something CBS would not be willing to do for him.

Both he and Colbert retain large creative control over their shows and maintain their biting political-social commentary, which would have to be toned way down for network tv. I can't see either of them taking over Dave's slot.

Unknown said...

Kevin Hart is hilarious! I'd love to see him take over for letterman!

Jazzy said...

I'd love Colbert, but he would have to change his format a bit. The perfect person would be Conan, I just don't know if he lost some of his audience by going to TBS. Didn't Seinfeld sit in for Dave while he had surgery? That would be good too.

Craig Ferguson is beyond excellent.
I wonder too about the changes that would occur should he be in an earlier time slot but I'd follow the man anywhere.

ForSure said...

Conan, good choice and he can still pull in that key demographic. Also, lots of industry people like him so would do his show willingly.

Stephen Colbert, not in character but as himself, obviously. I'm not sure how he would feel about interviewing vacuous celebs with a movie to peddle. He prefers authors, indy musicians, and off beat types. (Jon Oliver to get his own show after Stewart, if this happens).

Not Jon Stewart, he has so much power to control his schedule/content at Comedy Central, and I'm sure he doesn't want a 5 day/1 hour show.

Greg Kinnear, I agree, this would be a good choice. Miss him, and his show is tanking on Fox.

Tina Fey, also an awesome choice, but not sure if she would want it. She seems to like to do a variety of things.

Chris Rock, would be great to see him on TV regularly, but I don't know about his interviewing skills. Wonder how he would fare in a 30 minute Daily Show type of thing. Bet that would be great.

MadLyb said...

I think Handler should get the job. I know a lot of people don't like her, and think she's too abrasive, but while not a big fan, I can appreciate her honesty and fearlessness in letting it all hang out. I'm tired of the PR-driven celebrity interviews. It's time for a woman in the late night slot.

Anonymous said...

I don't know who this dude is, but Chelsea would have to bite her lip and develop a few people skills if she ever hoped to replace Letterman. The audience will not warm to someone so ... candid; besides, a lot of celebs have declined the offer to be on her show as she's seen as crude. She'll also have to work harder, and not rely on her co-panelists of the week to prop her up and make her look good.

I can't stand Chelsea - she's a mean girl who has several layers of bitterness and resentment about her.

Anonymous said...

A $5m bonus for not getting a job sounds amazing! LOL!

Anonymous said...

I just read the suggestions about Ellen, to which I say noooooooooooooooooo ... actually I don't watch Letterman anyway, so why do I care? ... but if I did care, she has the comedy thing down-pat, sure, but if you take all the funny stuff out of her show, and what she does with her guests, then it's a case of slim pickings. Mind you, if it meant I never had to watch or hear those bloody annoying Sofia Grace and Rosie characters then that would be a blessing.

uofazwildkitty said...

Love Ferguson. Hope he gets the gig, and CBS hires Joel McHale for the late, late.

TLP said...

Once Stern asking his guests if they've ever had anal, he'd be fresh out of questions.

I love Craig. I in no way can stay up that late, but I watch the next day whenever possible. When he had Peter Capaldi on, I was in nerd heaven. When he did his Doctor Who tribute, I was in nerd nirvana. He's the best!

(I still really like Jimmy Fallon though because he plays video games and likes the same crap I do and also knows a bunch of stupid cartoon crap because of his littles)
