May he rest in peace.
He was HUGE in his day, bigger than Gable and Garbo and Garland.
Also Ava Gardner's first husband. She had mostly good things to say about him, not counting his infidelity. But supposedly he was a energetic in bed.
RIP Mr. Rooney! Truly a legend.
OT: Jax? (Jaxbra)
No disrespect, but when I saw this news today I actually was surprised as I thought he was already dead!
Argh, need an edit feature. Supposedly he was a very energetic fellow in bed. Eight wives!
me too Becky I thought he had died before 2010.
Oh phew! Thanks Sandy, I'm happy I'm not the only one. He was a deadset legend, the last of the very old school I'd say....no others come to mind really...
@Nutty_Flavor, in Maureen O'Hara's biography, she said that she was sitting by herself in a room at a party when Ava Gardner came in with a couple other people. They didn't know she was there and she overheard Ava say that she couldn't stand being married to Rooney (they had only JUST gotten married) and was going to ask for a divorce. Her friends urged her to wait until the six month mark (or 1-year mark?) so that she would get a bigger settlement from him. Sure enough, that's when she filed. Maureen O'Hara said that she always felt guilty for not warning Mickey, but she was in the middle of her own marriage problems and didn't want to get involved in someone else's.
I just thought it was an interesting story--RIP Mickey.
Barey he was married with Ava Gardner,he was unfaithful and he had her virginity
Oops, Maureen O'Hara's AUTObiography.
Wow 93. That's like 113 in Hollywood years ... We watched some of the Andy Hardy movies a couple of years ago on Turner.
Thank you Enty for posting Mickey Rooney's passing (May he rest in peace). Was watching CNN's HN this morning and every hour on the hour they mentioned John Pinette passing (May he RIP), but not ONCE did they mention Mickey Rooney. Don't get me wrong J Pinette (50)deserves mention, but come on....really? Every hour on the hour over Mickey Rooney was 93 was known world wide....and not one single mention. It just cements the notion that large media companies have their heads up their asses.
RIP. A couple of legends passing this year, and we are only in april.
I adored Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland movies. RIP, Mr Rooney.
Screen legend but apparently a very mean man in real life
RIP Let the blinds and reveals begin. Also read he was not a good person in many ways.
Is it true they had to bury him upside down, over a well, to accommodate his junk? I think I heard he was the only one in Hollywood who could give Milton Berle a run for his money.
This makes me sad.
CNN just did a piece on him, 10:45 am Toronto time....
Babes in Arms was the first musical I ever did in high school, so I watched the film version (Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland) about a million times. Pretty awesome life he lived.
Another Hollywood Legend leaves us. RIP Mr. Rooney. I love your movies.
Too young, too soon. At least he's hanging with the big JC now.
Rip mickey.
RIP Mickey! About 30 years ago my brother in law met him in Hawaii, and spent the afternoon with him discussing movies. He was very nice and actually encouraged my brother in law to be an actor.
Time for some reveals! I like the old Hollywood blinds better.
I wonder what would have happened if he had married Judy Garland? According to her he did not like her the same way she liked him.
No, he was never bigger than Gable, no one was from the mid 1930s to maybe 1950.
When he was shown that he didn't wear an undershirt [sleeveless type] in "It Happened One Night" in 1934, the sales of those things plummeted!
Agree TW- I bet he has some doozies. He was a drinker and a ladies man. I bet he paved a wide path through hollywood.
I have such great memories of watching all the old Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland movies when I was a little girl. RIP, Mickey!
When I heard this, I thought it was about Micky Rourke! I idly thought what a shame it was that he wasn't getting more time to be cross-dressingly happy in his skin. Then I stopped thinking about it.
True story!
Errr...are we forgetting or just being respectful by not mentioning that he was an evil old geezer?
