Blind Item #3

This barely hanging on to A list mostly movie actress who is also an Academy Award winner recently shot a spread for a magazine. Her people made it very clear that our actress would leave if anyone smoked near her or even if they smelled like smoke. Our actress then spent the entire time in between photos chain smoking. She went through two packs in about three hours.

In this scenario is her "people" her husband that she totally assured that she totally doesn't smoke anymore? I could only think of Nicole Richie in a magazine shoot lately but the world is not ending, as far as I know, so she couldn't be described like that.

tl;dr, no actual guess. As you were!

I wonder - do electronic cigarettes emit smoke? Or does that defeat the purpose?

sandybrook said...

I think if smokers could ever smell themselves they'd quit cold turkey.

nancer said...

no, they emit water vapor. they deliver a dose of nicotine without all the other shit in cigarettes.

I am so glad to have beaten that monkey.

E- cigs emit vapor. As I have smokers' nose and other allergies, I don't think it smells.

Steamy, that so reminds me of my twenties. Also how I realized that I was actually a real smoker; all fun and games until I tried to quit. It took a postive pregnancy test in the end

eCigs are very useful in situations where smoking isn't permitted (just about the entire world)...they're not quite the same as smoking to a smoker, but they're good to have around.
And why not Goop?
If not, I'll go with Jackie Kennedy, a notorious closet smoker.

Another vague one. Herumph!

Thing I don't like about ecigs is they are too heavy to just hang from my mouth.

Harry Knuckles said...

Not to get all preachy, but the single best thing I ever did for myself was to quit smoking. I was a solid 20 cigs a day for 20 years. Tried many times to quit but always came back to it a couple of days to a couple of weeks later. Last time I tried though, it just took. Don't know why. Been 10 years and 4 months now. But holy fuck did I get fat. Got into bicycling for the calorie burn, and now, well, if any of you ladies are ever lucky enough to see me naked .....

@sandybrook as a smoker myself, I don't smoke in my apt so I'm free from that odor. But the smell of smoke literally disgusts me. My car is ruined because of it. But alas even the smell doesn't deter me :( I'd love to see my lungs as I'm sure that'd horrify me.

Never mind...she's not "mostly" movies

Gayeld said...

@ItsCourtneyD. It's amazing the number of smokers who think they don't smell because they smoke outdoors. Trust me, you still do. Not as bad as the ones who smoke everywhere, but it still clings to your hair and clothes.

Its all over your clothes and breath most smokers dont realize it.

E cigs are a great way to quit. I quit 10 yrs ago and just started it again for no good reason. I've been real cig free for a few weeks and been trying all the different e cigs stepping down on nicotine.

Snapdragon said...

I never smoked. Only one in my family who did not (parents & 3 sibs).

Yes, the e-cig vapor smells, but it's not unpleasant. I'm concerned about what's actually in the vapor, though.

If they could smell themselves... or the way they smell when they put on too much perfume. GAG ME WITH A SPOON. If you are a smoker and you can smell your own perfume, IT IS TOO MUCH.

(or cologne, for the menfolk)

Totally Kidman. Smokes like a chimney but always lies about it.

@steampunk Good luck to you. I'm in the same boat. I just joined Kaiser's wellness program and received a whole bunch of patches and gum. Going to give it another serious shot here pretty soon. Hopefully, I don't end up ripping off the patches and lighting those up :/

If you have Kaiser I recommend their program. It seems kinda goofy sitting in a room talking about addition to nicotine. Two of the people used cigs to quit alcohol, one is getting over crack and another over Heroin. Then there's me: a 9-5 schlub who's never done anything beyond a puff of weed. But, there is something cathartic about being in a room where everyone is shooting for the same goal. Between the wellness coach, the meetings, the patches and gums, I think this might actually work. Also, they recommend you keep smoking while doing all this, so you really get a sense of how you don't actually need nicotine, but instead you really just 'keep topping off the tank'. Alan Carr's Easyway is the book we're reading, I highly recommend that too, if you want to understand where the addiction is actually coming from.

@gayeld I meant in the sense my furniture and other things in the apartment don't smell like it. It's not soaked into the walls or air ducts lol I still smell but my home itself doesn't

I don't understand being addicted to cigarettes. I smoke two or three times a year and love it when I do, but I am able to work out and do other things the rest of the time. I don't miss smoking at other times, but sometimes if I am traveling overseas I just love to indulge. I chew gum and keep a toothbrush with me no matter what, along with perfume and hand cleanser. I do this whether I am indulging or not. Most people should do this as everything makes your breath and your body stink: soda, food, coffee, alcohol, not eating, the passage of time, certain meds. People in general reek and should work hard to prevent it by freshening up during the day. Anyway, carry on.

I would quit smoking, but I am afraid of my sense of smell coming back and hindering my ass eating fetish.

Gypsytrill said...

Smokers, let me be blunt. You stink. You only fool yourselves that you don't because of where you do or don't smoke. It doesn't matter! It is on your skin, on your hair and clothes....

@Harry Knuckles, proud of you! I'm too old to be interested in seeing you naked though :-)

A young woman rented an apartment in my condo building a year or so ago. She used to smoke but she didn't want to mess up her apartment. So she would stand in the yard under my window and smoke. Then drop her butts in the yard. I go out there with my dog so I had to see that. One day I got mad and picked up about 200 butts, put them in a baggie, wrote a note in big letters that said "THE BACKYARD IS NOT YOUR PERSONAL ASHTRAY" and pinned it to the building door.

Had no effect on her, she kept doing it.

Then she moved out.

Her apartment was pristine, she was beautiful, always well-groomed and nicely dressed.

But in her mind, dumping hundreds of cigarette butts in a communal backyard was just dandy.

One of the few hobbies I have any time for is my love of cigars. I'll smoke 1-2 a week, and my humidor always stays stocked. My wife and I have a couple hookahs that we share as well.

Kidman smokes like a chimney trying to maintain her stick figure. Lies through her teeth about it. Just like her Botox and plastic surgery. Woman would not know the truth if it bit her on her scrwany ass

As Chris Rock said, smoking is so bad for you, it kills the person standing next to you. It is lethal, and if it doesn't outright kill you or anyone in the vicinity of the toxic second hand smoke, it will cripple you with COPD, asthma, emphysema. Read about Johnny Carson's last years with emphysema.
