Sophie Monk Says She Has Saved Two Celebrities From Overdose Deaths
"I was walking through the party and they said meet this celebrity…there was like 200 people at this party.
Then all of a sudden I was like "she has had too much of something" and she starts convulsing like crazy and all her best friends, everyone left the party. I mean everyone within five minutes left that party thinking that they were going to get in trouble. They stripped her off naked, ran a shower and left her in it and left her in the bathroom naked and everyone left. I didn’t know her and I just said: "I am not leaving." I found a dressing gown in a closet, covered her and called an ambulance. She was like – foam coming out her mouth, they had to strap her down, she would have died easy - I’ve saved like two celebrities doing that."
I'm confused how she saved the celebrity. Just by calling an ambulance? Is that how she saved the other celebrity too? I'm glad she was there, but is she saying that every other one of the 200 people left?

I would only believe this if the implication is that instead of ODing that day the celeb spent the day banging her out. Not sure she could accurately say they saved their lives.

I'd agree, though, calling an ambulance after everyone left technically does count as saving their life.
Give her credit for sticking it out. Not everyone has the stomach for that sort of thing, or the questions from the police after.
Does she only save celebrities though? What if you're Jo Nobody, would she leave you foaming on the floor? But good on her (whoever she is, and whichever showbiz parties she attends) I suppose if everybody else ditched the ODer.

Agreed - I give her props for staying and sticking it out and facing the authorities in a situation like this. Also (presumably) to be there when the OD'er wakes up.

Yes, EVERY SINGLE PERSON doing nothing while someone overdoses isn't as unusual as it should be.

Exactly Kara. This is pretty much always how it goes down. People flee or dump their friend in front of the ER if they actually take action. It's known as bystander effect. This only worsens when you have a bunch of intoxicated people who don't want to be imitated or busted. Even Nikki Sixx's own friends dumped his body in a dumpster on Valentines Day way back when after they thought he was dead from a heroin OD (which inspired Kickstart My Heart)

This sort of thing happened to 2 members of my family. In both cases, the vast majority of the partiers just did nothing, and someone being called was left to one single person, while the others just left my family members alone in the bathroom.
I believe her story. She also says she did not know it was a celebrity when it happened.

Exactly Sherry. It's really horrifying. The Bystander Effect has been upheld anecdotally (exhibit A here) and empirically as well. In fact, the more people present, the LESS likely someone will call for help. This can be caused by apathy or fear of self-incrimination, but more generally, it's because people can rationalize that "someone else will do it." Hence, more witnesses, less likelihood of reporting.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the police wouldn't go after people any more who brought an ODing friend to the ER or called 911--I knew that had been a big problem for years, but I thought that it had stopped precisely because too many people were being left to die by their "friends".
The bystander effect is what happened to River Phoenix too. I read last night at the viper room. Apparently Christina Applegate was there and walked right past him on the sidewalk. Haven't liked her since. Well, that and the whole screwing Will Arnett thing.
Yup, entry that is exactly what happens when one of the drug users goes bad. Everyone scatters to the four winds in nano seconds. Later come back and most they do is dump body at ER and drive off. So that she stayed and helped this woman was pretty good for her. Twice? She's the gal you want around!!
I don't see how she DIDN'T save this person's life - she most likely absolutely did save their life and good for her! Even better if she did it twice.
They don't typically charge for bringing someone in for OD, but they can arrest people who have drugs on them. Law enforcement typically attempts to trace the drugs back to certain dealers, especially when a fatality etc is involved. However, note that even if you don't get arrested or charged for any crimes, you still become a witness. Your name will be connected to a drug-related investigation and they can subpoena your ass to court when they feel like it. Celebrities are especially inclined to be like, ain't nobody got time for that shit!
