Jonah Hill Has A New Movie And Dropped A Homophobic Slur

When you have a new movie coming out like Jonah Hill does and you have a million press appearances forthcoming to discuss said movie, you like the questions to be about the movie. Well, over the weekend Jonah assured himself that the movie would not be the only topic of discussion. Jonah was being trailed by two paps and one of them commented on Jonah's shorts. He kept at it and was probably hoping for some kind of response but didn't get it. He turned away after saying have a good day and that is when Jonah said, "Suck my d**k you fa**ott. Yeah, so not sure where that came from. Maybe he went to the Alec Baldwin school of charm. Jonah is not the nicest person in the world, but he has never lashed out at the paps quite like this. You will notice that he and Brad Pitt don't speak any longer after what Jonah did at Brad's house. He never stays with a woman very long because he treats them all like crap. Unless you can do something for Jonah he is probably not going to be very friendly. He tries to come across as friendly and just an average guy, but he isn't. I don't know whether he is homophobic or just was having a bad day, but when the words come out of your mouth so easily, it's a fair bet that you have used them before. If you get in a fight with someone, is that the word that is going to come out of your mouth? Was Jonah upset because a guy commented on his shorts? Did that make him uncomfortable? To be fair, the shorts were pretty hideous. If you want to watch the video you can click here to go to TMZ.

Waiting for a ruling from rosie to see if this is acceptable use of the "f" word.

Otherwise, teasing a big guy, probably a pretty open target, says something back, good for you for getting it on film. Yay entertainment

I have to agree with the Count on this one.

What did he do at Brad Pitt's house?

Katie said...

Trashed it. I guess Enty just revealed a blind. Everyone knew it was Jonah but the two guesses were split between Leo and Brad.

sandybrook said...

He trashed it while Brad was away and letting him use it for free.

This guy is just not worth the effort. He's unkind and ungrateful and arrogant, all while being repeatedly cast as the caricature fat guy in every film he's ever done. It's a hefty dimension, but it's still only one. Next.

Unknown said...

um, do you even see what the writing is on these movies that he stars in? and you are getting on him for this?

the paps were probably being horribly rude and trying to instigate the reaction, which if he had filmed that, could probably claim "bullying"

He's gross. I'm pretty sure no men or women will "suck his d*ck"...at least not without a big paycheck.

There are times when I long to see an alternate pap service, where they follow the paps around all day long; harassing and verbally mocking them. Have someone waiting outside their home. It would be interesting to see how they deal with it after several days.

Okay, I realize it's not PC behavior.. but back in grade school when name calling amongst peers was at it's zenith, it was not any more unusual for people to call each other faggot than it was to call each other retards... just sayin'

Meanie Rhysie said...

Great! After the jerk comment, I now have 'fucking jerk, fucking jerk...' suck in my head!?

Frufra said...

Dudes, we don't say faggot or retard any more, OK? You'd think Jonah's PR people would have pounded that into his brain. You'd think that would be the topic of a full day workshop that anyone with a starring role in a movie would be required to attend. Just like how I have to go to CPR refresher training every year - just part of the job. There are plenty of tried and true expletives that are still okie-dokie: asshole, dipshit, any variant of the "F word". I'm cracking up, thinking about the workshop facilitator breaking the room up into groups to do some "appropriate curse words" exercises.

Meanie Rhysie said...

Uh. Um...that would be stuck, not suck!

Pip said...

That was in grade school.

TE, paps are obnoxious. He should be used to it by now. It doesn't warrant a homophobic slur. He could've come up with an different insult like "assholes".

TalksTooMuch said...

Well, thankfully it's still TOTALLY cool to make fun of his weight, right?? Which most people do on most Jonah Hill posts. Thank gawd for that still acceptable form of shaming or all those poor paps would have to go find some new way to try and get a reaction.

Charlie, I've long thought the same thing, that someone should pap the paps. The TMZ guys are on TV every day, so they especially should get followed!

That show "Just Shoot Me" had a pretty good episode like that. David Spade's character met Mark Hamill and lobbed about 500 Star Wars questions his way, wouldn't leave him alone. So Hamill started doing the same, showing up, following, driving Spade's character insane. Good stuff!

JSierra said...

I didn't even know it was a homophobic slur until I was in high school, that's how far removed from it's origin it is in my generation.

When I was a little kid my cousins told me it was like calling someone a butthead so I went around spewing fbombs to all my relatives that Thanksgiving. My Dad put an end to that real quick when I yelled "hey you faghit pass me some turkey!" I think the only reason I got away with it so long was because I couldn't pronounce it at all.

Sherry said...

Here's a quote from his IMDB page:

"I despise common people. They make me throw up."

Apparently the rest of the family is in the music industry. His brother manages Maroon 5 and his dad was the tour accountant for Guns and Roses. A job my ex was supposed to do (or at least for Axel) and like the album, the tour never came to pass. He was one happy mofo to be working with R Kelly instead and he hates R.Kelly.

I like Charlies plan. While Jonah isn't the nicest guy around (understatement) having someone dog you and harass and harangue you would be too much. I'm sure anyone would blow after a while.

Dexamyl said...

It's always interesting what sort of pejorative terms people are willing to overlook...and from whom.

Homophobic slurs generally have no consequences for the user. Racist terms are more complicated.

Paula Deen, an old Southern woman, admits to using ni**er once, 30 years ago, and her career is over. The disgusting Justin Bieber is shown on video using the same term a couple of years ago as a joke, repeatedly, and TV commentators rush to his defense. Jason Kennedy still hasn't managed to dislodge his tongue from Bieber's sphincter

Rose said...

There is no way Paula Deen only used the N word once. That is just not a word you randomly use. It's either in your vocabulary or it's not.

Riven said...

It's amusing how far people go to protect their right to use words they know hurt others due to a long history of negative connotation, simply because the idea of their "right" to do so is more important to them than the feelings of people who are tormented by those very words. A++ kudos fantastic human beings all around. Do you have black friends?

If you wouldn't say "retarded" in ANY context to the face of a child with Down syndrome, you consciously know it's a horrible word. I suggest you grow up, drop your self-involvement and speak like an intelligent person in the 21st century. Jesus.

Who cares if it's a word you grew up using? It's not 20th century anymore. Our intelligence and access to information has evolved, why haven't you?

Riven said...

Edit: should read "do you have black friends, TOO" but the missing word makes that come across really poorly and misses the sarcastic mark I was aiming for.

All opinions on the level of Jonah Hill's jerkiness aside, and the fact that it is NEVER acceptable to use a homophobic slur as derogatory term aside, he didn't say it out of the blue, the pap followed him down the street and at some points seemed to be within inches of him, making fun of his outfit, any sane person would loose their sh*t over that too.

Amartel said...

I hate the language police and the constant outrage like how dare whatshername say she felt the paps were kind of rapey how dare she, that sort of thing. Who cares? It's words. Grow a pair (inside or out, does not matter). Deal with the fact that the rest of humanity is not obligated nor likely to be nuanced about your particular issues. Act accordingly.

That being said, this guy's been handed a beautiful life and he's still a little bitch all the time.

M. Brown said...

At the risk of sounding too Intro to Soc when his anger flares up he goes for the predictable default, sexuality. Insults to a man 's masculinity or a woman's virtue (with weight a close second). To say that isn't rooted in homophobia and sexism is just inaccurate. Of course it is. As a society we value masculine men and have a problem with promiscuous women. We penalize anything that deviates from that. Do I think everyone that uses fag or slut is homophobic or sexist? No. But let's not kid each other from where the origins of these insults come from and why they are the 1st out of people's mouths.

It takes balls to admit that you find no value in improving your character when given the opportunity. First they came for a word, and we did nothing. Next they will come for sentences, and everyone will still sit on our hands. When they come for paragraphs will any of you take up arms to defend them? When books that make people butthurt are pulled from the shelves and burned in the streets will you all be dumbfounded or sit there with torches and pitchforks, patting each other on the back for striking another blow against free speech and butthurtedness?

It is a slippery slope and I believe we should make our Maginot Line at words, so it never gets to gasoline and lighters at Barnes&Noble. Much like the Truman Doctrine preached containment of Communism, we need to contain censorship, before the Thought Police start implanting chips and carrying out door to door executions. Look how far electricity has come in 100years, censorship has the ability to move 10x as fast, because there is little infrastructure investment needed. I don't want to live in San Angeles, and I don't wanna learn how to use the three fucking sea shells.

@Tongue N Cheek: It is natural progression. Once the PC machine is fully functional w/ swelled ranks, funding and tentacles in the media, you think after having a dozen words stricken from the language they gonna disassemble it?

If yer only ever worried about where you are, yer never gonna realize where yer going.

If my choice of words hurts an individual that I am speaking to, I will sincerely apologize and choose my words more carefully in the future.
If my choice of words offends somebody's sensibilities because I "shouldn't say that" even though the word does not apply to them in any way, shape, or form... That's retarded.
And while we're on the topic, why is "retarded" off limits, but words like "cretin", " imbecile ", and "moron", which have the same history -basically, different terms for various mental disabilities or degrees of mental disability that are obsolete as medical terminology but still used at insults- these words are still OK? Doesn't make sense.

To make one thing clear - I do not go around calling people "retarded " or "faggot". I prefer more ...creative... insults.

Yeah... I'm rambling. I'll stop now.

Count Jerkula said...

@Low Key: Thank you. I enjoy tangents. The more ludicrous the references that I can use to make a point, the better.

TalksTooMuch said...

There will never be this type of legislation, people who use words like that who offend other people will be judged in the court of public opinion. Some people will be offended and not support whoever, lots won't care. That's the only logical outcome, not some PC book burning drive.

And censorship has been around since there were people, it moves about the speed of a slug stuck in tar. It is going very much in the opposite direction, actually, swear words and nudity and the like are all over the mainstream these days. If you were to follow the trend of censorship, you would see a huge decline, but still the same number that feel like PC is taking over. Like they thought it the 70s.

Riven said...

@LowKey excellent point regarding words like imbecile and dumb. Unless I get bored or distracted (yay ADHD), I'll be back with either a good explanation or concession.

It did make me think about 'cunt' and 'dick.' But the others are anatomically-specific and therefore only reference a specific gender. I was in VagMon, so I should know the entomology of 'cunt,' but I've never reacted in any way to it so the idea of "reclaiming cunt" just didn't impact me.

Then of course there's bitch, also gender specific due to it's original definition, though it has evolved and is pretty commonly used with multiple meanings. And asshole theoretically should have universal application as we all have assholes, yet is commonly applied to men (and less commonly towards groups of people i.e. "You are all assholes").

However, I post all of this on my phone so I'm going to let someone else handle that debate should they so chose. I'm already eyeing my kindle and considering saying fuck it, advocacy quota met for the day lol.
