Off Topic

I wonder how long I could manage without my phone or internet or any other communication device before I gave in.

To a nap? Not long.
Let's start counting.
I'll go first.

On the basis that you (presumably) make your living by internet blogging one would assume you wouldn't last long. Unless you're going for a change of career to pig farming or some such.

Yesterday I was w/o Internet For 3 1/2 hours and I freaked. I can live w/o a phone.

Depends if I'm preoccupied in another manner.

I did 3 weeks in India with no phone and internet. It was very nice. Here, I dropped my first HTC EVO and cracked the screen pretty badly. My contract expired in 6 weeks so I just put the phone away and went without it. It was....very weird. I know how Neo felt unplugging from the Matrix.

To me, I realized that I actually do not need to communicate with my friends and family as much as I thought I did, turns out I don't really like them that much. It's one of those: Use-it-if-you-have-it things. I also realized that I knew ZERO telephone numbers by heart. Interesting thing I recommend people try.

I went 3+ days without Internet and Fox Soccer channel before I had time to watch a taped soccer game so I wouldn't see the score. During Sandy we lost power for 4 days but I would sit in my car when I wanted to charge my iphone. I couldn't imagine not having both at the same time but I know if I did, I'd discover some wonderful things.

About 8 years ago lightning fried all of our electronics: computer, TV, etc. We decided not to replace them. We lived without the computer for a year. We've never replaced the TV. I really like having Internet on my phone but I'd like to think I'm not an addict and could do another year if I felt like it.

I have crohns and work from home due my health not being so great at times. My phone and internet are my link to the outside world and my friends and family that live far away. I'd feel like a complete hermit without either.
That said, I am content reading a book for long stretches of time without interruption so I could deal without it for periods. Just not forever becaus I'd be way too lonely without it.

I had a dream that I dropped my giant phone AGAIN and I spent the rest of the night last night trying to buy a replacement. It was a NIGHTMARE, people!! I get twitchy after about 14 minutes

My computer broke down once, and I couldn't afford to fix it. It was the most productive year of my life.

That is a Total nightmare TTM! I can't have my phone away from me. Barely able to charge it in a different room.

it's ok, if I can do it so can you. I'm an IT pro and went on a one week retreat (not religious, tyvm!) in the countryside of Tennessee where there was no TV, technology at all. My supportive family-not-thought I couldn't do it but it was a calm, lovely piece of cake and I'd do it again in a heartbeat! Left the last morning at 7am and drove a couple of hours before finding a restaurant for breakfast and that's when I turned the phone back on.

I would LOVE to do this but I make my living on the internet (online store, travel agent) and I teach. Most of our record keeping (grades, IEPs, etc...) requires the net. I would LOVE to unplug and go back to a landline phone. I gave up cable a few months ago and it's not so bad. I do miss CNN when big events occur because I like the craziness that ensues. I miss the Weather Channel too, oddly enough, for the same reasons.

I am also itching to give up FB, but I need a profile in order to have a business page. FB has recently made it extremely hard to reach "likers". It,s almost becoming pointless to have it.

It all gets a little overwhelming sometimes what with blogs, FB, Twitter, WWF, email and all that. I'm hopelessly addicted.

I went 6 weeks without my phone! It was sad, but I was in trouble for celebrating a little to hard and breaking my 4th iPhone in a year. My work relies heavily on the internet and social media though.

I forgot my phone this morning and when I ran home at lunch time, to drop off tamales, I forgot it again.

I've gotten rid of cable and the phone for a couple year and didn't even blink. It would take getting use to, but I can do it. The kids would probably breakdown, though, especially the one that doesn't really like to read.

Please! Anyone who has been on a cruise does without it for 7 days. Sure a few people will check their phones in ports, but most people just leave it. That's WHY cruises are so popular!

The first time I broke my phone I had to go three weeks without texting or checking my emails, I had to use my laptop, like a CAVEMAN, so I can and did do it, but I shore didn't like it. I keep expecting to find my husband standing over my phone with a hammer and a look of satisfaction

I love having a phone/internet hiatus. I'm going to Bermuda next week with my homegirl crew and I plan to not touch my phone at all.

When I was preparing my Easter brunch, I was off the grid for at least 48 hours. If I'm super pre-occupied with life, I don't even log on. It's so freeing.

Forever, probably. Some of us did it not that long ago.

LOL @TTM I use a desktop PC. Nothing else. I do *have* a laptop, and that's what we take on vacations but that's it. Yay for old school!

I could easily give it all up. No offense to y'all.

Well, I'm on a plane 30,000 feet above Minneapolis right now and spent $14 for the right to be connected. So, I'd say I wouldn't last more than an hour before getting the technology shakes.

Read a damn book! Although having a Kindle is no help there and I resisted as long as I could. Now that my computer bit it, I obviously still go online but it's a bitch to type on. My phone I could live without.

I have a huge iMac that I work on, but I hate sitting at it to kill time on the internet! It's so inconvenient haha.

I'm so non-caring about my Iphone that I JUST updated to IOS 7 or whatever it is 2 nights ago. The only reason I did it was because my Facetime wasn't working and I was thinking about wanting that while away in Bermuda since my baby boy and baby daddy are going to be kickin' it alone in Jersey. But, then my husband and I concluded that Facetiming will probably invoke in me epic guilt while away so perhaps it's best to leave well enough alone.

I will totally read a damn book, Jennmcn. I'm so stoked. I have Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald. Yay!

I will miss Pinterest. Not gonna lie. I am a Pinterest whore. Facebook could kiss my ass, though. If not for my business, I would drop that bitch.

I feel ya Snootches! I manage people's social media and it's a nightmare to get organic reach these days without paying and I won't pay!
