Off Topic

I remember back in the day when TV Guide had their new television show edition come out. It was the only way you knew what shows were coming and what they were about. It was a big big selling issue.

One of the best issues of any magazine all year.

I remember that and I think it gave those new shows a running chance. Of course they also gave shows a running chance back then. It is astounding how many of the now classic shows did not have good ratings their first year.

I was just reminiscing about how I rented all the Sopranos DVDs from Blockbuster. Nice TV Guide throwback. Imagine someone from today's world going back in time to tell us that one day, The Fappening would be happening...

So you think kate is gonna dump Justin V guy?

My gran always had the latest TV Guide and would give me cross words for filling out the crosswords. :/

It would certainly help nowadays. There are shows cancelled after 2-3 episodes I never even heard of.

The TV Guide fall preview issue was very comprehensive for its time.
@Dragon probably not.

TV Guide crosswords were never confused with the Sunday NY Times crossword.

@Dragon: Who knows? My guess is no. Even though he had a bunch of pics, we don't know how old they were. Some of those pics are years old. And Verlander was a victim regardless, he probably didn't want it out. My guess is they will put up a united front, but who knows?

And I remember when Dwight D. Eisenhower was POTUS. So what? Sh*t happens. Things change.

The entertainment weekly fall TV Guide is excellent reading imo...

To an 8yo, TV guide crosswords were far more interesting than Highlight's crosswords. NYT is the Boston Marathon of crosswords.

I am only looking forward to Gotham right now. Anyone got any suggestions for fall programs? ?

@lady I was thinking about that might being old.. so you are right

@sandy I figured.

You know what I remember, when television wasn't a near total crapfest and television journalists weren't an utter joke.

I had a subscription. Lol

There was something nice bout those days. There wasn't internet, so if you wanted to research something you had to go to the library. Of course..shopping was a much bigger pain in the ass back then, because that all had to be done at the store, crowds, etc. Unless you went through catalogues.

In those days the TV Guide was far more comprehensive than the newspaper TV listing and in the early days a lot of newspapers did not have TV listings. Oh how times change. They had the TV Guide at the checkout and my mother did her groceries same day same time every Thursday which was perfect timing for to pick up the TV Guide which she did, the new listings started on either Friday or Saturday. It also had good articles and interviews in it. And yes my mother always did the crossword and got mad if one of us kids did it.

There is so much programming on now that the TV Guide is about the same as the TV listings put out by the newspapers and some have decent guides that come free with the newspaper. I use zapit.com internet listing nows.

I used to buy the TV Guide faithfully every single week. Then I noticed that when ever I picked it up to toss into the recycling that it was always open on Saturday, and that I never used it at all. But yes the Fall TV preview issue was always something I looked forward to.

I used to order TV Guide and loved it. Now it is way too complicated and I miss a lot of good shows because of the overwhelming amount of stuff that is on tv

That Justin V makes me feel happy. If he, with his squirrel face and short penis can bang Kate Upton, that means I just need to be rich in order to f word über hot ladies.

Local Powerball there I go.

You still have Entertainment Weekly's Fall TV preview issue. For now.

This is getting ridiculous, Enty. TV Guides, now?
Why don't you let one of the funnier regular posters choose a topic? Better yet, Seven of Eleven and Count Jerkula can take alternate days.

We used the TV page that came in the Sunday paper, but always got the Fall Season edition of TV Guide.

I also remember Alan King doing a bit with a board covered with all the new shows and making jokes and throwing them away one by one.

And remember the NYTimes puzzles get progressively harder as the week progresses. The Sunday is the Mensa of crosswords.

I subscribed to TV Guide for years. It was exciting when the fall preview came. Now with DirectTV, Netflix, the Internet and lots of previews, I'm just trying to keep up. There seems to be lots of interesting shows this season.

That was the BEST TV guide. That one you'd hang onto for months. Back when there were only 5 channels on TV.
Those Were The Days! (Cue All in the Family opening song).

Gram and gramps always had a.subscription to TV Guide and I would mark it up with all the shows I wanted to watch. I loved the fall preview. But I NEVER dared to do the crossword puzzles!

The Walking Dead season 4, middle of October

Aoife said...

I used to look forward to it too.

@Stinkyfeet
You mean The Walking Dead season five premieres on AMC on 10/12 AND the reruns are now in syndication and begin 10/1.

Is TV Guide still around?
