This permanent A list singer who is an American icon and lover of hats has been buying clothes from the same dress shop for the past forty years. Every single one of those dresses has a size 12 tag in it. About thirty years ago when our singer began gaining a little weight she told the owner of the store there must be some mistake when he handed her a size 14 dress. She made it very clear to him she was a size 12 and was proud of staying a size 12. Never again has she been handed anything other than a size 12.

My grandmother used to cut the tags out of all of her clothes. Which I thought was pretty awesome. Size ain't nothin' but a number.

Simon, in my opinion, the hat clue is referring to the now-iconic hat Aretha wore at Obama's inauguration. And I'd also add that Aretha, much more so than Barbra, has experienced significant size fluctuations over the years.
There's no way Aretha is a size "12" or even 14. However, I've never seen her in person but she looks "healthier" than those two sizes.
So question for those of you w screen names. How? I've created a google+ account, feedly account! even gossip bucket account and it doesn't show.

Ya'll have got to be blind as a bat. Aretha is not a size 12, nor have been since......Shit since forever. So you all can scratch her out of this blind. Aretha a size 12 or even a 14...smh.
Some of you are misreading the comments. No, Aretha isn't really a twelve, but all her clothes tags (maybe undergarments too?) are replaced with tags that say 12.
She is a revolting sweaty lardass. I don't care she can sing, she was born with it, it's like being treated special for your eye color. She treats people like shit and it'll be annoying when she does (probably any minute) with the shit she eats) how everyone will call her a legend and mourn her meanwhile you'd NEVER want her as a boss.

@Des, the way the blind is written makes me believe that the dressmaker gives Aretha (or Barbra, or Patti LaBelle, all valid guesses, in my opinion) dresses in her actual size but sews tags for size 12 into the dresses to appease the hat-lovin' BBW's delusions.

This sounds like Aretha. Obviously she's not a U.S. size 12 but that's the tag label they put on the clothes to keep the diva happy.Why not? She's been loyal customer for decades. She doesn't' seem to be a nice person but why should she be?

I'm guessing Wynona Judd or yeah. Stevie Nicks. I would think Aretha would be in the X sizes for that extra bosum. There's no way they're fitting in a 12 dress.
Aretha is nowhere NEAR a twelve. I would believe it if she insisted she was an eighteen so they sewed that label into her size 22 dresses. Babs always wears Donna Karan, she doesn't go to a shop to be dressed.
This is not Aretha! There is no way that she is still tripping out over a size 12! She is at least a size 26 now. This could be Barbara!
Except for the hats thing, I'd almost say Mariah...she's gotten a rather more *fulfilling* figure over the years.
