This actor used to be a comedian. He is B list now. He has been on a hit network show for what seems like forever. The past year or so though his life has gone downhill really quickly. Over the weekend our actor was at a hospital in NYC with a high risk wristband. There he was in clothes that were ripped and worn. He was looking as if he had not showered in weeks. He asked a passerby for help using a pay phone and couldn't figure it out and told the person he was having mental episodes and suicidal thoughts which is why he had the wristband. He said that he wanted to go home and to leave the hospital. He had no one with him, but was very kind to the person who helped him with the payphone. It was just a very sad sight to see for a guy whose character has meant so much for so long.

i didn't know who this was so just Wiki'd him - apparently his brother committed suicide in July 2014 and there were some reports that it was Richard.
This is so sad. When he left L&O SUV, there were rumors that he was going through a lot of problems in his personal life...
He is 70 and lived a good, hard life at one time. not everyone can age like a Tommy Ching.
sad. he helps animals, too.
About four weeks ago, His wife was arrested and thrown in jail for a couple of nights after she caused a disturbance on a flight. She was cursing and screaming and even flung the food tray at people. His wife was an actress named Harlee Mcbride who was in the 1977 movie, Young Lady Chatterley and its sequel.
Oh wow. This really upsets me for some reason.
IIRC, his father also committed suicide. It's hard to fight when you've got those genetic links. (Fun fact now, though...he's Fonzie's cousin.)
Oh this is sad to hear. Ive always been fond of belzer.
Really sad loved him on SVU, wasn't he the guess for the actor who acted inappropriately towards a cast mates wife and got punched.
I hope he is getting the help he needs. I truly do. Someone guest this correctly but I can't remember who....

Are you sure this person didn't mistake Richard Belzer's older brother for the actor/comedian himself? RB's older brother was mentally unstable and did in fact commit suicide approximately 9 days (7/30/14) after you posted this incident (7/2114). Perhaps it was him and not the actor.
So sad. I have read a few items about him acting differently over the last year and some of it, along with his age, has made me wonder if perhaps he has Alzheimer's or dementia. Both diseases change you tremendously.
His brother looked just like him. He lost his wife in 2012 and per his neighbors was never the same. He had heart trouble and visited the ER several times, which may explain a medical bracelet. I'm thinking it's the brother.

Richard Belzer is still very active on Twitter with current event and political posts, plus retweets many people do like the town who did the holidays early for a terminal patient.
I think you are right, they looked just alike too. I just looked on Twitter and RB sounds just fine. I doubt if he could use Twitter if he could function on a pay phone. Irregardless, it's sad and it sounds like their childhood was not happy..
