Her thyroid cancer has returned and in between chemotherapy and taking meds (it took some convincing but she's taking them) she's been consulting with her PR people about whether or not to go public with he illness. If she does, she's risking the chance of cutting ties with that slimy sect she's been associated with for years and who are being kept in the dark about her cancer treatment. The Thyroid Cancer Survivors Association (ThyCa) has produced a patient informational brochure featuring as their spokesperson Catherine Bell (actress/model and former star of "JAG"), who is a thyroid cancer survivor. Surprisingly, however, Bell is also a very public and outspoken Scientologist, part of a group that is actively fighting against key sectors of the medical community, namely the mental health and psychiatry community. In addition to her work with ThyCa, Bell is a spokesperson and activist for the Scientology-based Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) a group founded by the Church of Scientology in 1969 to promote their belief that "psychiatry is a pseudoscience," and to promote their idea that psychiatric drugs -- including drugs for attention deficit disorder (ADD) and depression, among others -- are especially dangerous. CCHR also states in its position papers that all currently identified mental health disorders should not be eligible for insurance coverage because "they have no scientific, physical validation."

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but while they are known to hate anything associated with the proper treatment psychological problems I have never heard that the CO$ cult preached against medical treatment for illnesses like cancer. Even when the Revolta/Preston child collapsed and died Cruise was out and about saying the CO$ doesn't deny anyone an ambulance. I have read that they have allowed people to die through neglect like the Jevovah's Witnesses cult does by condemning blood transfusions.
Even in this steam punk version of a website Bell has never been A- list. Obvs cause angel Derek has never heard of her.
Back when she was on 'JAG' she was really popular(& hawt) plus 'Army Wives' had core loyalists & 'The Good Witch' Films are/were really popular amongst the crowd who loved "Touched By An Angel" & such.... just saying

Going Clear hasn't been shown where I live yet. Looking forward to Louis Theroux's documentary. He always gets people to humiliate themselves. It'll be a belter like the one he did on guru cults in India
The things some otherwise intelligent people fall for can be mind boggling. I feel for the kids born into the cult, they don't know any different. I'm really looking forward to Louis' doco, too. That man is a genius in the way he draws things out of people.
I've read interviews with people who were born into the CO$ and went to normal schools and had parents who had regular jobs. Lots of CO$ do not live in isolation and have plenty of outside influences. The idea that people don't know any better is inaccurate. Also, wotsit's comment and Derek's are contradictory. She was 19 when she had her first thyroid cancer diagnosis. I have no idea what age she was when she joined $cientology. So, not necessarily contradictory. I also found a snippet from Mike Rinder's blog last year, that says she is on the outs with the "church" due to a lesbian relationship.

wotsit - I can't be always bothered with Mike Rinder. While I admire any campaigner and whistle blower, much of what he says is inconsistent and not backed up by the real life experiences of many current and former CO$ people. He also engages in too much celebrity speculation and throws in far too many Cruise references as a means of self publicity for him to be truly credible. Derek says Bell is a spokesperson for the Thyroid Cancer Survivors Association (ThyCa). These survivors will have had chemo, but you say as a CO$ Bell rejects chemo. These are contradictory statements. I cannot imagine ThyCa would EVER use someone who avows chemo as a treatment as it would be irresponsible. I detest the CO$ but I prefer to comdemn them for what they do than what they don't do.

I find him quite slimy considering all the abhorent activities he carried out on behalf of Misgavige, and he now employs the Nuremeburg Defense of "I was only following orders".
