Blind Items Revealed #9 - Old Hollywood - Mr. X

July 8, 2015

She was only A-list for a short period of time, but as soon as this actress and sex symbol’s popularity waned she fled from the spotlight and was seemingly missing in action for several decades. That is until a reporter in NYC was tipped off that she was working as a bartender in a gay club in Greenwich Village for minimum wage. Turns out she was going by her actual name and the club owners had no idea that they had a former celebrity in their employ. When the reporters ventured down to the club they saw her and she was completely unrecognizable: she had gained a tremendous amount of weight, had yellowed teeth from smoking cigarettes and was wearing her hair in a librarian style bun. They couldn’t believe that this was the same person, but it was.

I had heard this. It's a shame that she ran through all her movie money, however that happened. But hey, work is work, and she was doing an an honest job.

She should have married well

She was such a B word that no one wanted to work with her a 2nd time and her marriages didn't last long. Her kids would try to help her, but she was so nasty to them they gave up also.

So what? She got old and let herself go. The remarkable thing is she was actually working, so good for her. Many has-been actors just whine and bitch at the tabloids and don't work.

She was only 4'11"

Hey, bartender is a pretty kick-ass job! I never made to that side of the bar, but someday... someday... (stares meaningfully off into the distance, nostrils flaring. *Cue John Parr music*)

Enty published this blind in July 2015, but the National Enquirer published a story with most of these details 6 months earlier. We all know that Enty often makes up stories based on stories in the British Tabloids the previous day, but putting out a "blind" when the info had already been published with Lake's name 6 months earlier? Laaaaazy

My dad (retired NYPD) says she was a waitress in a greasy spoon.

According to IMDB, she worked fairly steadily from 1939 to 1970. Yet, she died in 1973 at age 51.

Didn't she have serious mental issues?

Despite anything, she is wonderful in Sullivan's Travels, one of my all time favorite movies.

So what if he publishes like that? It is his site and not all of us spend our days reading every tabloid. If you don't like it then stop visiting. It is that simple. I am greatful for the work enty does and appreciate the site.

Veronica Lake suffered from severe mental illness that may have explained a lot of her behavior and her alcoholism. Yes, she was frequently known simply as "The Bitch." It is also said that the reason she was paired with 5'5" Alan Ladd was because she was one of the few leading ladies who wasn't taller than he was, especially in high heels (she was less than 5' tall). It is also alleged that her mental condition, which was already precarious, deteriorated even further after she suffered a miscarriage. She was a pretty sad person, though extremely beautiful at the height of her fame. Alberto Vargas did a lovely portrait of her (and her famous hair) when he was painting Hollywood starlets.

Of course Enty can do whatever he wants & i do appreciate his work on the site, but how can you call something a "blind item" if you're just rewriting an already published story with the names left out? That's not really "blind", is it?

are you serious? it's even on her imdb-page. Some blind. This page has become ridiculous.
