This A list legend was on radio and television as an A lister for over four decades. His wife was notorious for cutting off anyone from their life if they had not had a hit in awhile. Then, if they did strike it big again, there she was, front and center like she never left.

Sandy, honey, what is with your anti-Bing comments this morning? Strange. Did you know Bing and his family? His beautiful, adorable, kind, caring, supportive wife? Bing and my godfather were dear, close friends, and worked together for decades. He was a guest speaker at his funeral in 1976 here in NYC via satellite. So was Rosemary Clooney (live) among many others. Bing was a joy. Yes, he had an Irish temper and maybe tippled a bit on occasions, but he was a wonderful friend to so many. Can we ease up a bit on him? Thanks.
Milton Berle. His second wife was his publicist, Ruth Cosgrove (maybe an aggressive one?). Married in 1953 until her death in 1989.

He had quite a reputation as a not-so-nice guy, especially with his families. Verbally abusive, cold. It's fairly well documented, I'm sure Google has thousands of pages on it.
Unfortunately, Bing's children wouldn't agree with your assessment. I'm guessing they knew him a little better than your godfather did.
It has Been alleged that Bing was horrible to his first wife and sons. All of his sons committed suicide and he basically discarded them. His will did not allow payment until middle age. Your families interaction does not define him as a parent and husband.
The sons I am referring to are with Dixie. Katherine's were doted on and are still alive. Thanks

Okay, this comment cannot be serious. Everybody knows that Bing Crosby was a raging alcoholic and drug addict, abusive and generally an asshole.
I cannot believe the remarks by people who weren't even born when he died, muchless ever having met him. I don't care about how he treated his wife, Dixie, or his children. That was between them. As a person, he was incredibly kind to me and my family. I have letters he wrote me framed in my living room. I was a young girl in the 50s and he did many kind things for me. He knew I was a huge fan and always gave me box sets of his hits on my birthday. When he called my dad he always asked to speak to me. I don't care what you write. You did not know him personally. I have a right to post anything I want on this site. I am not saying anything hateful about anyone. I truly adored him when I was growing up.

I was quite alive when he died--he had his charitable side so did the Kennedys. I'm honestly glad he was good to you and yours, too bad his kids didn't get the same respect and love.

Bing Crosby is likely an example of someone who changed his life,helped in part at least by his second wife. His first wife was an alcoholic and possibly mentally ill. they brought out the worst in each other.One of his son Gary wrote a Daddy Dearest type book where he claimed Bing was very abusive to them.His brothers claimed it was exaggerated.Shortly before his death.he tried to retract some of his statements.There were no such claims made by his younger children.
I was very much alive when Mr. Crosby passed away. I live in San Diego and his name is everywhere in Del Mar./Ranch Santa Fe. I do believe he was abusive to his sons and may have been much more content with his second family. Corporal punishment was the norm back then and his will was another slap in the face. I kindly disagree with you.
