Blind Items Revealed #1 - Old Hollywood - Mr. X

January 18, 2016

This still alive and still cranky foreign born actor who is still considered the best in his franchise’s history but got his Academy Award win/nomination for something else has a great story. He fought a mobster on the set of a movie while cameras were rolling. The mobster pulled a gun on the actor because the actor was having sex with the mobster’s actress girlfriend. The actress has one of the greatest discovery stories ever and was an Academy Award winner/nominee. Oh, and the daughter of the actress ended up killing the mobster.

Actor: Sean Connery
Franchise: "James Bond"
Actress: Lana Turner
Mobster: Johnny Stompanato
Daughter: Cheryl Crane

The original thread was impressive and @Errol got it right away. I love these blinds but only recognize the names once in awhile. This was juicy though!

This is a pretty well-known story, still a good one. The unarmed Connery took away the gun Stompanato pulled on him and pistol-whipped him with it. Cheryl Crane's book _Detour_ covers all of this...she had a very, very hard early life.

This isn't a blind. Only one major actress that I know of had a daughter who killed her mobster boyfriend, and that's Lana Turner. It was a huge, sensational story at the time, and the daughter was acquitted because she argued that she was defending her mother, who was definitely a victim of domestic violence at the hands of Stompanato. Lana testified, and many people quipped snakily that it was a better performance than she had ever given on screen. The Sean Connery part of the story is also pretty well known, though whether he was really having a fling with Lana or if Stompanato was simply being paranoid and jealous is debated. Lana Turner was married 7 times, I think, and if you believe all the stories about her she allegedly slept with just about every straight actor in Hollywood. Carole Lombard was allegedly traveling to see Clark Gable when she died because she feared he was having an affair with Lana Turner.
