Today's Blind Items - She's Coming For You
Back in the day there used to be all kinds of spinoffs. Then, until the past couple of years there were a void of them. One of the more successful spinoffs was launched in an effort to make more money, but it also rewarded this behind the scenes celebrity for her help and silence with this at the time A+ lister. She knew secrets so she was given a huge role in the show as a thank you. I think it was pretty much a given at the time that she was going to use the show as her own personal sexual playground. Like a lot of shows that have sexual predators in charge, it featured a large turnover each week of young women. In this case, the one in charge, a female was just as lecherous as men in the same position. If you wanted any kind of speaking part on the show you were going to have to sleep with her. Most of the main cast on the show also had to visit her trailer for "instruction" a couple times each season. If you didn't? Bye bye to the show or at least to any kind of regular appearances on the show. There were a couple of actresses that were safe, but not many. She purposely tried to ensure there were no stars made so she could keep applying the pressure. Even when one did stand out, she still didn't have enough power until later in the run to stop having to make instructional visits.

Debbie Allen being the behind the scenes person (Director). She is Phylicia Rashad's sister, so there's that.

" behind the scenes celebrity" makes me think Debbie Allen and Bill Cosby since she was an EP on the show I believe.

The notion that you can't work unless you fruck the boss is so yesterday. I would love to see the mother of all lawsuits. Take down the pig in charge and the entire studio.
Lisa Bonet/Cosby. This is why she's been silent anout his abuses. Just about everyone else has spoken about it publicly.

I read this as this was a more recent spin off and was thinking Kate Walsh in Private Practice. Actor Patrick Dempsey. Probably Debbie Allen though.
Well, that certainly explains a lot:
1) Phylicia Rashad's steadfast denial of Cosby's pervy and criminal behavior. She couldn't very well speak ill of him without throwing her filthy sister under the bus.
2) Lisa Bonet's mysterious departure. She stood up to Cosby and he didn't like that one bit.
So, ol' Cosby could always count on Phylicia and her sis, Debbie Allen. What a sick and depraved group of people. Hollywood is messed up.
Phylicia's now ex-husband, Amad Rashad, turned out to be a piece of work. He's married to an unattractive millionairess with whom he adopted a child, her granddaughter.
the other rumor was that Lisa Bonet got pregnant which wouldn't've worked for her storyline so she had to leave..
Either way, you guys totally got this with Bill Cosby/Debbie Allen/Phylicia Rashad...and DEFINATELY, like Sandy's comment that "FAME" was D.Allen's reward w/new young actors every week but I've no idea of the timeline--good teamwork!

The Showrunner for "A Different World" would have been the person with the power I'd imagine. Susan Fales-Hill was the show runner but I've never heard anything about her. Bill Cosby would be the A-Lister and I would argue that show as a vehicle for Lisa Bonet's silence rather than Jasmine Guy's.
I've heard rumors for years that Debbie Allen slept with a lot of the women on the set of "A Different World." Lisa's departure was sudden and weird, and Debbie took over the show as an executive producer in the second season after Lisa Bonet left. There were also rumors that Jasmine Guy and Cree Summer and some of the other female cast members were all sleeping with each other too. The show was intended as a star vehicle for Lisa Bonet, but Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison wound up becoming the de-facto stars of the show after her departure.
Bish, it was rhetorical. I know no one has the balls to do anything of substance in 'this' real world.
