This regular guy married this permanent A+ lister for her money. When he found out she didn't have any, he took out a life insurance policy in her name and then killed her. In her condition and with her history of abuse he easily got away with it.

Judy's last husband. I was just reading a biography on her and I recalled that she died only a short time after marrying Mickey Deans, who lied and sold himself off as a rich bigshot but didn't have a pot to piss in.
Judy Garland married Mickey Deans 15 March 1969 and she died 3 months late of an "accidental"" overdose of sleeping pills on 22 June 1969.

It the bio I read, Judy had a history of a addiction to all types of uppers and downers that MGM got her hooked on in the beginning of her career. It was common knowledge that she was an insomniac so she would take sleeping pills to help her sleep. With her history It would not have been difficult to make it look like an accident so much so that not even Liza questioned it.
Her mom actually got her hooked.
Well i was a little kid when she passed and was very suprised when it happened. Watched her special on Tv and could not believe that she was the same beautiful girl on the wizard of oz. Her skeletal appearance, the rotting teeth and bizarre behavior was a tell tale sign of what was to come.
I don't know how Mickey Deans ended up in Cleveland but anyway, I waited on him when he came into the neighborhood bar where I worked in the early 90's. He was a Queeeeen with a capital Q, surrounded by his twink court! He was pleasant enough & sat at the bar while his "court" stood around him. I wouldn't have known him but for the whispers that buzzed around the bar ("You know, Judy's last husband", etc.). He bought a house down the street known as Franklin Castle, rumored to be haunted, & lived there for a decade. He died in Cleveland some years later.

That's just tragic and fucking heartless. When people make murders "look like an accident/suicide" because the perpetrators studied the victim's "history" (that implies they targeted someone who had a lot of struggles to deal with to begin with—be it drugs/addictions, suicidal tendencies/depression/anxiety, anything they can use to take them down). Just plain cruel. Vultures.
It's nice when the truth comes out in a blind like this. Gives the victims some justice at least. ♥

Wooooow and yet I can believe he was a queen. Poor Judy was so desperate for love that she was blind to the sexual orientation of the men she married. Minelli, Herron and Deans were all rumored to be gay/bi. I believe the long standing rumor was that Judy first committed suicide after walking in on Minelli with another man in their bed. Something which played out in Jacqueline Susan's Valley Of The Dolls. Where the character of Neely O'Hara who is supposed to be a facsimile of JG finds her husband in the pool frolicking with another man and goes down a path of pills and alcohol. Great book and campy movie btw.
