Tiger Woods Gets A DUI

Golfer Tiger Woods was charged with driving under the influence early Monday morning in Jupiter, FL and said later in a written statement that prescribed medications contributed to the arrest.

Woods, a Jupiter Island resident, was taken into custody at 3 a.m.

Palm Beach County Jail records indicate Woods, 41, was booked at 7:18 a.m. He was released from custody on his own recognizance, meaning no bail money was necessary, at 10:50 a.m.

The 14-time major champion has not played since withdrawing from the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in February.

Ongoing back problems have sidelined his career for much of the last three years.

In April, he said in a post on his website that he underwent successful back surgery to alleviate ongoing pain in his back and leg.

It's unclear if Woods was given a breathalyzer at the time he was stopped by police. Jupiter police have not released the arrest report.

Last night, Tiger released this statement.

“I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions. I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly. I would like to apologize with all my heart to my family, friends and the fans. I expect more from myself too. I will do everything in my power to ensure this never happens again. I fully cooperated with law enforcement, and I would like to personally thank the representatives of the Jupiter Police Department and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office for their professionalism.”

The degradation and deterioration continues. Once upon a time, I looked up to Tiger Woods as an athlete and a man. The athletic skill was real enough but the rest was a wholly manufactured lie. We were duped. I hope that he can get his life together but I also hope he disappears from the media.

I live about a mile away from the spot where he was arrested. He must have been really messed up because he was headed South, away from his house.

I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He's been raked over the coals a lot these past few years. His asshole ways caught up with him and he's been paying for it ever since.

Once an athlete's back goes, so does his game.
I liked Tiger when he turned pro. What a boost for Golf!
But right now, Tiger needs to realize his pro career is finished.

I'm just glad no one was hurt or killed by his DWI driving.

I believe Tiger's explanation of pain killer medication mixture.
But, if he needs that much pain medication post surgery, then how successful was the surgery?

Just asking....

Karma. That is what you get when you go out on a booty call at 3am, full of a mixture of sleep pills, pain pills and vodka.

Millions of Americans get addicted to pain killers post surgery. And their doctors keep feeding it to them.

Yeah, the arresting officer smelled alcohol on his breath and he refused a breathalyzer. Plus he is a proven liar, so no benefit of the doubt for him

He doesn't even look close to the Tiger I remember. He's totally lost his way.

Tiger has disappointed and cheated golf fans by not staying laser focused on his career as he once did. He was a great golfer who raised the game from it's slumber. He was a regular guy that had relations with multiple partners and continued to do so after his marriage. He owed her an apology, her family, and his. He owed the rest of us none but deserved the scorn he got for philandering. IMO, he should have stayed single, and listen to his golf gurus instead of constantly changing his swing. His career went down the dumpster when his back went out and required surgery. He is now self medicating as chronic back sufferers tend to do. No doubt he is drinking too. He needs to get his life in order and maybe return to golf.

OK. Some facts. The initial details of his arrest have been debunked. He was not weaving all over the road, no alcohol on his breath, did not refuse breathalyzer, was not disrespectful or arrogant. He was found asleep at the wheel on side of road and very confused when woken up. That being said I suspect something more than just a bad prescription drug reaction since he looks like hell and was on the road at 3am. It appears he probably has a prescription drug problem probably as a result of all his surgeries and most likely depression. He needs to learn to just be happy with his $750mill net worth. His winning golf days are done.

Just a reminder that narcotics can also be prescription medications, and that just because a medication is by prescription, doesn't mean that it can't also impair your ability to think, coordination, etc. Meds that have the risk of this generally have pretty visible warnings on the bottle themselves that advise against driving or operating heavy machinery. If you're taking these meds, do NOT get behind the wheel - you risk killing yourself and/or others.

Some doctors don't do that. My sister had lung cancer. Her cancer doctor took her off the oxycodone that the emergency room doctor prescribed for her, because he didn't want her to get addicted. He gave her myloxocam, which is an arthritis medication. We begged her to let us take her to another doctor, but she was too scared to and refused to go anywhere else. She spent the last 3 months in severe pain. She suffered until she died.
