Is a dollar store truly a bargain?

For stuff like toothpaste and household needs like cleaners and such and packs of napkins and toilet papers yes. Some foods and knock off colognes and anti- perspirants too.

I don't know. You probably have to know the prices of other stores to compare. You can get Pringles for 1.00 at Dollar Tree and they are higher than that at other stores.

Agreed, mine has a big selection of balloons, which they blow up for free, with birthday and holiday slogans..One can make quite a splash for five bucks or so.

If you buy only what you need, yes. The problem is you might come in and buy a lot of junk. Many of the food products and paper products are the same as other stores, just less money.

The $ stores in my nabe are filthy. You don't even want to walk through the door. Shelves crammed with krap, mice droppings on the floor. Check out personnel chatting in Urdu on their Iphones. Walked in, turned around, walked out. At least he smiled and waved as I walked out.

We have a Dollar Porno Store here in Atlanta. Some days, I'll go in and change the titles on movies for shits and giggles. It caused quite a stir inside CNN HQ however when "Dana Does Dallas" became their best seller.

You know who else has been known for making quite a splash for blowing things for five bucks?

It can be, depending on what you're buying (aluminum foil, paper towels, things like that.)

I don't ever shop in these stores. Cheap imported goods are destroying the US economy, the lives of the poor people who work where they manufacture this crap, and the planet.

There are some great deals as others have already mentioned on things like soap, cleaning products or paper towels.

The dollar store in my area has a great selection of wrapping paper and gift bags, nice quality and nowhere near the price of similar quality in Hallmark or Carlton cards.

The major obstacle is getting past the smell. The store looks clean, but smells like mothballs,BO and bug spray.

I am fairly close to 3 stores. They are all clean and have a lot of the supplies I need at a good price. I go there for medicines, cleaning supplies, etc. It is easy to spend a lot, though, because everything is low cost, which lulls me into a sense of being able to spend more than I need to.

i shop in dollar tree all the time - everything there is $1 or less, it's clean and has amazing stuff: books, plates, bowls, glassware, kitchen utensils, reading glasses, greeting cards, puzzles, dog toys, helium balloons & gift wrapping....

Lots of good bargains at the Dollar Store. No, not everything is, but it's a heck of a good idea to start your shopping there.

I stopped going to the dollar store when a poor person was in there selecting his food for the week for lunches at work. It was sad and pathetic what the poor have to go through to eat, and manage their money.

It is for shoplifting siberian huskies.

That doesn't make any sense. Lots of people buy lunch at the dollar store to save a buck. It's no different then buying off the dollar menu at Mickey D's.

It is if you buy certain things, other things you can actually be paying more. Some products the quality is so bad you wouldn't want to use it if they gave it away for free.

Good items: velvet hangars, men's socks, batteries, sponges, paper towels, tissues, wrapping paper, ribbons, fresh vegetables, sometimes even organic, some fruit, soft soap, certain cleaning products are okay, not others.

For some things, I do shop there. I love going there for cleaning supplies because they do have some name brands (like Kaboom) that are great and much less expensive than buying them elsewhere. Same with birthday/greeting cards and gift wrap.
