Today's Blind Items - Trouble In A Real Life Ship

Everything was going swimmingly with this series. Lots of fans. Considering the platform where it was airing it got ok ratings. People were kind of shocked when the show got canceled, especially considering the owners of the show and where it was airing. The reason? The executive producer of the show found out the barely legal actress on the show who turned him down because she was underage when they met had been hooking up with her love interest on the show from day one when she was underage. They did a very good job of keeping it hidden. When the executive producer found out about it, he demanded, yes demanded the actress have sex with him. When she told him to f**k off, he killed the show. Boom, just like that. Done. He also has basically blackballed the lead actor although when he tried to do the same to the actress she threatened him with a lawsuit and sexual harassment and a million other things. Not only did he back off about the blackballing he wrote her a big check to keep quiet about what happened when she was underage.

The Get Down on Netflix?

There are too many boating and water references in BI so that may not be it. Let me go back to the drawing board.

Vinyl the show? James Jagger the love interest?

She should have sued him so everyone else would know and be spared. When the women of Hollywood stop accepting payouts and start suing, things may change.

The old "if you f*cked that guy, you gotta f*ck me now 'cause I said so" routine. Nice. Reveal the shitbag, not the actress.

I'm wondering if this is something to do with Sense8. I know the Wachowski's are involved, but the EP is listed to be a dude (J. Michael Straczynski), so perhaps he's your fit thrower?

But, who in that cast is barely legal? Most are in their 30's.

New here. 1st post. This blind sounds a lot like it could be Girl Meets World which was suddenly cancelled. I hope not, but too much sleaziness associated with Disney.

CluelessInBabylon said...

Could this be "Last Man Standing?" Not a viewer of the show, but aren't there some kids in the cast that could have grown up over the course of its run?

enty is fond and consistent w/revealing the victims but not the perpetrators. also, he likes to out people's illness but staying mum on who is raping children? not on enty's watch!

MTHS said...

My first thought was The Get Down as well, mainly because so many young actors. But ship -- could it be spaceship? I don't know.

Patrick said...

Again. Enty may "know" that the perpetrators are doing these horrible things. But he can't "prove" it, so outing the alleged (and they are no more than that) abuser would do nothing more than earn Enty a swift loss in a defamation suit. If these allegations are real, the relevant parties will face some sort of retaliation.

Kaitlyn Dever is 20...so probably not "barely legal" in Enty's mind. But a possibility I guess. Her character is sort of a tomboy though and I don't think she had much of a consistent love interest early in the series.

Exactly Patrick. Cant prove it and will result in big lawsuit. Be cateful with whom u accuse unless it is on video or DNA, it will be a financial loss

How about when men stop thinking they are entitled to sex when they hire women, things may change.

Except he outed a murderer who's never been charged.

The show: Girl Meets World
The platform: The Di$ney Channel
The barely-legal, then-underage girl: Sabrina Carpenter
The male actor boyfriend: Peyton Meyer
The executive producer: Michael Jacobs
The verdict: oink, what a pig

When it says "considering the platform" it makes it sound like it is something other than network tv - so, either cable or streaming

No, he had a significant other, now wife who is a teacher(=not in showbiz) I believe. Not to mention Vinyl was killed because of the low ratings and the huge coasts so nothing went well on it. And neither Juno Temple or Olivia Wilde are spring chickens. And basically they were the only regular female characters on the show.

That's why these are BLIND items. If you really have good reason to believe someone is a child molestor you can implicate that person in a roundabout way that leads to plausible deniability and mitigates legal risk. Blind "facts" are sometimes wrong, and I think Enty changes a few of the facts on purpose for this sort of reason. There are criteria here to sue successfully and the legal bar is notoriously high for famous persons to win defamation cases.

Not incidentally, I'm pretty sure that any individuals "outed" as child molestors in this way are probably NOT going to want to draw further attention to those allegations by filing a highly public lawsuit!

Call it the "Streisand" effect, or whatever you like, but suddenly you're bringing what otherwise would be a barely noticed, and somewhat obscured claim of child abuse into a public forum. Now instead of 100,000 Enty readers (or however many) suspecting person X is a child molestor, 50,000,000 will hear the claim explicitly when its reported on the late night news and/or tabloid sites. Probably better to just ignore the blind item, especially if you're guilty!

Lawsuit also potentially leads to discovery. Even if it can't be proven to a satisfactory legal standard that a given person is a child molestor that discovery process could look AWFULLY bad. For example, remember Michael Jackson admitting to sleeping in bed with small children? Even if, as he claimed, there was absolutely nothing sexual going on there, this admission itself was devastating. Lets say it comes out that person X occasionally met with some teenage star in private. Even if nothing happened, that's not looking good!.

The victims could be deposed. .the handlers could be deposed. . .documents that were supposedly covered up could get uncovered, settlements could come to light, etc.

Girl Meets World had 72 episodes, that's plenty for a Disney show, I don't see a conspiracy there.

@ReallyDone - THIS, 100,000%! Because when the men doing the hiring think that they're entitled to sex from the actresses they hire, they also have enough power that any woman actually filing a lawsuit (which can be notoriously hard to prove) may as well kiss her career goodbye. Remember Nicolette Sheridan, who sued the producer (?, Mark Cherry, I think) of Desperate Housewives? Ever hear of her acting in anything after that? If you want to make it in Hollywood, there's a shitload of pressure - and as women and minors are seen as "weaker", and less likely to be in positions of power, they get preyed on. It's horrible. But the people at the top have to stop it - both in themselves, and in anyone they hire. Until then, it won't change,

Must be something on Adult Swim. Animated ..really? OR Black Sails. Michael Bay is an executive producer, so this is my guess.

Girl Meets World
Sabrina Carpenter
Hit show, abruptly canceled
Real Life = World
Barely Legal

Can a producer cancel a show? I thought only a network could do that.

C.C. said...

Cable Show = Son Of The Beach & its sudden cancellation for upstart FX after 3 successful seasons (for them anyway).

Lead Actor = Timothy Stack who has faded away by Hollywood standards since the show. People expected big things from this comedy genius including me. Or possibly Roland Kickinger a.k.a. the next Arnold?

Executive Producer = Howard Stern who had the $ for the payoff & was rumored to have been cheating on his wife before their divorce. He also hates Leno who just happened to hire Stack after SOTB went off the air. Could this be 1 of the reasons? He's been careful not to get into too many controversies since his Selena rant.

Actress = Kim Oja perhaps? I don't know their ages.

"Swimmingly" is definitely a clue & maybe due to the recent "Baywatch" film release (which SOTB was making fun of) this is now being put out as a BI.

C.C. said...

"Platform" also seems to go with the water references too. I forgot to mention it above.

Only in cases where the death was ruled "not a murder."

In fairness, nor did she work a lot before that

Benz, you can always lose a lawsuit. And even filing one isn't risk free. . .you could end up yourself looking bad, especially if there was some complicity on your part. EG, casting couch is incredibly sleazy, but its still SOP in many circles, and its still consentual. Part of the perpetrators defense is going to be, in effect, accusing you of being a slut, If you're a performer, suing a prior director or producer is a good way to get labeled as a "troublemaker" and have a hard time finding work again.

Taking a payoff is just a faster way to a better outcome.

Are you insane?

Jim Summers said...

Was it really a hit show? And was it abruptly cancelled? They had a series finale just like any other departing show. I don't see how its cancellation was different from any other Disney show such as "I Didn't Do It"

Yes because you're the end all say all. Heaven forbid anyone else have a guess.

Who do you think the blind is about?

I agree, there is a huge difference between being cancelled, and not being renewed.

@ReallyDone. Here's an idea, how about we start teaching our young girls and women to stop lowering their self worth for greed and fame! I see faults in both the producer and the actress. He should never have made her choose between her livelihood and her dignity, shame on him. But she should not have taken the money and gotten big eyed instead of possibly saving other young actresses who may work for this person. the teaching starts at home. And FYI, men and boys in hollywood face these same issues and its even harder for them to speak up. try being more inclusive to the issue!!
