Just a question from me: what happened to the "news" articles that used to precede the blinds?

A Mercedes G Wagon for my sweet 16. I had my heart set on one and even my mom led me to believe I would get one. Then my birthday comes around and I got Audi A3 instead as my father's friend worked for Audi and could get 8k off the RRP. I spent most of the day in a rage which they never forgot. I was mortified.

After the car was written off following a crash 2 years later they finally caved in and I (at last!!!) got my G Wagon which I L-O-V-E.

When I was about 8 I wanted a smash up derby set more than anything in the world. I guess they must have cost a small fortune or my parents didn't want to encourage my tomboy behaviour.

Steam facial cleaner. Was on every teenage Christmas list but my Dad could never find one. Turned into a longtime joke between us and I've never been able to buy one myself. Dad died years ago but I just always think of him when I see one.

Freaking Barbie dream house! I asked for a little plastic fun pool and Barbie house, and I had to make a choice! I'm still in repressed false memory therapy over it!

Not so much a gift, but I really wanted a big brother.
Took me a long time to figure out that I was the oldest, so naaahhh....

I just wish my parents would prioritise me over complete strangers/distant relatives. They're so caught up in being "altruistic" and their noblesse oblige BS that they've made me miserable as a direct result of it.

At one point, my parents let my father's uncle's son live in our home so he could find a job in the capital city. This guy kept trying to get into my bedroom but I'd never let him. When he had to return to his home village because he couldn't get a job, apparently (later I found out) he'd been blaming me for making him feel "unwelcome" and uncomfortable in our home. WTF? Now my parents are all about letting my brother's new girlfriend (dominating, controlling, sketchy AF) get away with everything to the point that I feel like I have no say in the home I grew up in.

You know that Bond villain in "Spectre"? The one who hates 007 because husband father adopted Bond and liked Bond more than his own biological son? That's me. ????

That, and I can think of some material things my peers had but I wasn't allowed to have...
