Blind Item #7

One person who won't be coming forward recounting his time on the casting couch is this A- list dual threat actor who has a big franchise in his past and is currently on a hit pay cable show. He came literally out of nowhere to land that franchise. It made his career. He got it by having sex with the A list director of the movie. He says it continued on and off for a couple of years. Mostly off. Eventually he told off the director and no more movies with the director.

Tricia got it, naturally. I remember working at the resort that the cast was staying at when they filmed X2 in Alberta during the time, Marsden got a girl fired for bringing her to his room, I recall her saying it wasn’t worth it afterwards.

Glue said...

Josh Hutcherson? He was in the Hunger Games and is now on The Deuce.

Hey Tricia, I thought James Marsden was famous before X-men. I saw him in several movies before that franchise. Unless I'm reading the blind wrong, which is a possibility. /grin/

SDaly said...

Did Marsden come out of nowhere, though, to land X-men role? Not really sure that that means in Enty-speak.

Crazycatlady said...

Marsden had some movie roles before X-men, Disturbing Behaviour was his big movie before that, all of his other flicks came after the first X-men.

Unknown said...

He was on many movies and tv shows prior to 2000 (X Men). I don’t think that would be “out of no where”, although I instantly thought of him as well with “hit cable tv show” (WW).

Tricia13 said...

He came into prominence I think,as Cyclops in X-men... “out of nowhere” in film is how see it but dunno?

SDaly said...

That's why I was wondering what out of nowhere means. Is it small TV roles, but nothing major or "I found another cute runaway at the bus station this morning."

Tricia13 said...

Check him out in “The D Train” with Jack Black— a really sleeper film(I liked alot) and have said here before— Marsdens character seems uncannily like him (bi sexual kinda sleazy player ttype)... check it out

Snifter said...

Marsden had movie roles before XMen though- Hairspray and Enchanted weren't huge, but they weren't crap either.

Oh. XMen came before those. Nevermind.

Kabe said...

Marsden is a veteran. He even was in Ally McBeal

Crazycatlady said...

“Literally out of nowhere” - Marsden is from Oklahoma - is that the US equivalent of being from Nunavut like here in Canada? Nunavut is beyond remote and untouched wildernness. Some people but mostly land and such.

This is Hugh Jackman. Who else is duel threat and came out of nowhere. Look children, Wolverine is gay ok? A singeing dancing drama school graduate with a perfectly chiseled body? Gay gay gay.

Crazycatlady said...

HJ could definitely be gay, but what pay cable show is he on? Doesn’t fit...

Anonymous said...

@Normal... :D :D I still would, though! :p
Could be him, I had not heard of him before X-men. Although he seems a little bit too old for him, though. I heard his window is 18-21?

Anonymous said...

Marsden seems a bit more like his type.

Don Kieballs said...

I knew of Marsden from Second Noah. He also turned down the role in 54 that went to Ryan Phillipe in 1998, so he was known by 2001 XMen

Don Kieballs said...

2000, not 2001 sorry

The first name I thought of was Sam Worthington, (Avatar/James Cameron) who did have a cable series in 2017. Hadn't heard of him before Avatar, but he has several sequels coming up, so the franchise isn't in his past. Also I'm not sure Discovery is pay cable.

longtimereader said...

Didn't mckellen reveal that marsden has a huge dick a few years ago? Explains a lot.

Don Kieballs said...

I'm going to guess Tom Hiddleston and Thor director Kenneth Branagh. The hit pay cable show being The Night Manager? It's on AMC/BBC so it's basic cable, so I'm not sure. His other show is on Netflix, so that wouldn't count.

Don Kieballs said...

Maybe go way out there with Crispin Glover who was George McFly in Back to the Future, but refused to return to the role in part 2. He's currently on American Gods on Starz (pay cable).
Making the director Robert Zemeckis, a good buddy of Speilberg

delia jones said...

Sam Worthington for sure. Literally out of nowhere, with an enormous push to make him a big star, for someone no one had ever heard of who wasn't very good at acting. Discovery is a pay channel, not network.

Karen Walker said...

as someone commented earlier, josh hutcherson, it fits.

just sayin' said...

james marsden was 27 when he was first in an "x-men" movie.

Jon said...

Brandon Routh and Singer

Don Kieballs said...

Can't be Sam Worthington for Avatar. He's still filming with the James Cameron in Avatar 2,3,4,5. The blind said no more movies with the director.

Josh Hutcherson is a good guess, making the director Gary Ross (who only directed the first Hunger Games movie) except I don't see him on TV, just Hulu. I can't find him connected to The Deuce

Don Kieballs said...

Speaking of The Deuce, however, can it be James Franco from Freaks and Geeks? Did he work with Paul Feig again?

Clarence Boddicker said...

Jackman - no cable show
Worthington - Still working with Cameron and I don't think Unabomber show is a hit.
Mardsen - Def in the lead on this one despite not coming completely out of nowhere.

BayAreaGirl said...

This is definitely Marsden. Young Marsden was totally Singer's type. Cyclops is a pivotal character in the Comics, so I was pretty surprised that they killed off his character pretty unceremoniously, but it makes sense if he told Singer off. He has a tiny cameo in Days of Future Past, probably to fulfill his contract. Ally McBeal, The Notebook and 27 Dresses were after the first X-men.

Don Kieballs said...

My issue with the James Marsden guess, besides him being known before X-Men, He has worked on X-Men with Bryan Singer in 2000 and on XMen DOFP in 2014. He definitely did not stop working with that director. And he said said “I’ve always been very proud of my role and it’s out of my hands,” he said. “It’s nice to see Bryan [Singer] go back in and turn the boat a little bit. I’m happy for those that made it back. I’d like to. I get excited watching the trailers because I’m excited for the continuance of the X-Men world. I’m a fan of X-Men and I know it’ll be a kick-ass movie.”

I first thought of Richard Armitage. Prior to his lead in The Hobbit trilogy, he was mostly known for television series' in the UK. After The Hobbit he's starred in movies, and is now on AMC's "Berlin Station". He'll also be the lead male in "Ocean's 8".

But I don't want to be right about this, because it would mean Peter Jackson had a casting couch, and he seems like such a decent guy! So I hope I'm wrong!

Unknown said...

Marsden did not come out of nowhere. Chris Hemsworth always had rumors surrounding his landing of the Thor role with Kenneth Branagh, especially since he was initially rejected for the part.

Unknown said...

Never mind on this one, did not see the "hit cable TV show"

Don Kieballs said...

What about Brad Pitt being cast in Thelma and Louise, currently on The Jim Jefferies Show on Comedy Central?

Sara, Making It Work said...

Brandon Routh is on an almost network show, not pay cable. So not him.

Crispin Glover eventually mended fences with Zemeckis and they worked together on Beawulf.

I also was familiar with James Marsden prior to XMen. But he makes more sense than others.

Going to have to think on this more.

Sorry, off-topic. A guy gets up and dances and sings, and all the ladies swoon. Hugh Jackman has freakishly beady little eyes. He's not good-looking at all. But he sings and dances and smiles, so he's irresistible. Apparently that's how it works.

I really hope this isn’t James Marsden also who hails from the great state of Oklahoma and grew up in OKC. Would most consider it “literally out of nowhere?” @crazycatlady ‍♀️ I could see a young person possibly agreeing to some shady stuff to get a break in Hollywood. Whoever this is, I have to give him props for standing up and saying “No, no more!”

Teaching in the trenches said...

I was trying to use the person shrugging their shoulders, emoji, in my post. Sorry!

beebopcowboy said...

even tho james marsden fits for xmen/westworld, he had a movie career in the nineties, even the early nineties I started seeing him pop up in disney original movies and stuff. heck w/mention of Disturbing Behavior (1999?) I dont see him for this, but he pings as bisexual.

Hugh Jackman fit except for the pay cable mention.

Orlando Bloom?

Came out of nowhere for "Lord of the Rings". Currently in pre-production for "Carnival Row" on Amazon. Not currently a hit, YET, but buzz is there as if it were already a hit.

But that would mean Peter Jackson was the director...and I just can't with that one.

Having a hard time with the James Marsden guess. I disliked him far before XMen. He definitely didn't "come out of nowhere".

Clarisse McClellan said...

Marsden was a hottie before Xmen. I remember him from Disturbing Behavior and Gossip. He didn't come out of nowhere.

Fun Fact: A friend of mine worked on Thor and helped with casting. Marsden, along with a lot of A-listers, came to audition.

I feel like Enty means Marsden, but I'm going with Sam Worthington on this one. I woke up one day and literally he appeared before my eyes from out of nowhere with nowhy.

shamaro said...

What about Ben Barnes? Came out of nowhere to land Prince Caspian, now on Westworld and The Punisher. I don’t think the director fits though?

Don Kieballs said...

Orlando Bloom, Like Sam Worthington, both seemed to appear out of nowhere (at least for me), but both have also worked with the same director for over a decade on the same series. Sam is in every Avatatar (Including future projects) and Orlando worked on The Hobbit movies 2013/2014, the most recent film Peter Jackson has released.
Neither fit the never worked with the director again line.

Liv said...

Great point! Missed that clue.

texasrose said...

Quit trying to force someone not a lead on a hit pay cable show into this. Bloom and Worthington are not on pay cable hits. This is Mardsen and enty is just discounting his previous experience. He was not a household name until X men movies -hence out of nowhere.

AIP said...

Well considering this is Jerry Bruckheimer’s m.o. (allegedly) I’m going to eyeball him. The only person that kind of fits is Orlando Bloom. Who although he was Legolas, he looked so different as a blonde with pointy ears, and hadn’t really been heard that much of, was then cast as secpnd-leas in the Pirates franchise.
He doesn’t have a TV series out yet though.

Come on guys, WHO IS THIS. I must knooooow....

Isn't this blind about a dual threat? Hiddleston seems to fit. Marsden is American so idk.
