She isn't worth $50million. That is probably what she grossed. Subtract agents, manager, publicist, etc, then taxes. Out of $50mill, she probably realized $20mill, then take away the cost of living an extravagant lifestyle. Finally, realize that she needs cash for drugs, and would have a hard time explaining it to her financial manager. Think Winona Ryder/shoplifting.

I kinda feel bad for Gomez. She's a lovely girl. I'm from Texas also and have met plenty of gals and their single moms that I imagine are similar to Gomez and her mom. Sometimes I wonder if she'd have been better off staying in Tx being a regular ol' suburban gal.
Looks like someone else is believing those "celebrity net worth" sites. They're all full of shit, I know in several cases with musicians they're WAY, WAY, WAY off. They just calculate based on public comments and movie/tour grosses. It's impossible and illegal to know anyone's net worth unless they tell you. You have no idea if they saved and invested their money, or threw it away renting mansions and leasing super cars and throwing "industry" parties with mountains of hookers and blow.
Money comes really fast in Hollywood, and it goes really fast, too. Maintaining a "hollywood" lifestyle is horrifically expensive. After taxes, agent, accountant, lawyer, PR, personal assistant, nutritionist, personal trainer, wardrobe/makeup and dog grooming fees, of course. Selena no doubt made a great deal of money at one point, and had several people on payroll. Those days are long over, and if it's true she has/had a serious coke habit? She snorted most of her cash. Happens way more often than anyone really wants to know.
Most average people could live comfortably on what some of these celebs spend every month at Whole Foods and other overpriced stores in LA. Money is easy there - to make, and to lose.
