Blind Item #14 - Lady Loves Part Four - A Reader Blind Item

We talked for a little while, but we were getting close to the time when we would have to leave to head to the concert.  I told her I’m going for broke – that I planned a surprise to try to cheer her up, but she would have to trust me and leave with me right then and there.  In the months ahead, we would go together to the Strip quite often, especially to this other legendary club, part owned by this probably permanently A list Actor right off of it which was still a few months away from opening as that notorious venue.  We would end up seeing a LOT of crazy shit together, but at this particular point in time, we were at a crossroads.  Another song, an obscure rock love ballad by a ragtag group made up of members of other bands, was playing in the background.  The song will forever be seared in my memory, although years later, I would forget the name of the band and the name of the song.  I would remember the lyrics, the rhythm, the beat of it – set to the memory, in slo-mo, of Washington’s beautiful, azure blue eyes both as big and deep as oceans blinking, me wiping a tear away from them, her finally cracking a smile.  That song would become my version of Al Bundy’s “Hmmm Hmmm HIMMMM”, until I finally found out its name again and the band that performed it, a few years ago.

I don’t know what compelled me to look up right at that moment, but – and I know this is going to sound like some sort of clichรฉ bullshit but it absolutely positively happened – a bluish green shooting star streaked across the sky from East to West.  What can I say, I took it as a sign and moved in to kiss her…it was literally like a scene out of a John Hughes film (one of my favorite ones actually – Weird Science, where the guys get the girls after fighting off the Mad Max mutant bikers, and a pair of shooting stars streak across the sky as they kiss them).  And of course because the universe loves to play with us silly humans, just like that, yet another played out clichรฉ - who happened to show up and start breaking up the party juuuuuuust then, at of course the most inopportune time?  The cops, or to be precise in this jurisdiction, the LASD.  I couldn’t make this up if I tried.  SIGHHHHHH…

I took Washington’s hand in mine, and told her it was now or never – I would be fine with whatever she chose to do – either go out with me that night to parts and places unknown, or I could take her home - but she had to choose.

TO BE CONTINUED.

End of the Line for song?

@Tricia13, I thought of "End of the Line," too. But would it really be considered a love song?

The year is 1993. It states so in the first item. I believe the legendary band is Red Kross. Oasis did not come to N America until 94.

These reader blinds suck!

Tricia13 said...

Well that’s likely what’s meant by “surprise gig”:it wasn’t scheduled-kinda how it works....and they have always been fans of doing it.
Who TF Is Red Cross anyway๐Ÿ˜‚

It was never "scheduled" nor Documented then either.

Red Kross is a legendary band from LA

Ah... thanks “Derek” I mean Donna.
Lived there and went to plenty of gigs and never heard of them.... hopefully the reader/writer reveals it:)

@Tricia13, you are probably right about Damn Yankees. I had to look them up because I was into a different type of music back then. :)

That’s a great one but not sure obscure? It was super played/popular- maybe Enty means because it’s from the 90s and nobody cares anymore lol

I've got one, as told to me around 1994 by a woman I'll call W. She had teenage kids at the time she told me this story, so maybe that will give you an age range.

W was a young grad student up in the NE US. She was a slip of a girl: long red hair, maybe 5 feet tall and around 95 pounds. She was invited to a party by some friends at an apartment, so she went.

She met a young man there, BL, who took an interest in her (he apparently loves red heads-- they are his thing). He told her he was working on an album and had a record deal, which didn't impress her in the least, as she assumed it was a pick up line. Still, he seemed nice enough, so when he asked her if she wanted to go for a motorcycle ride, she accepted as she found the party a little pn the boring side and some fresh air sounded nice.

They drove out to the highway and had a nice ride. They stopped and talked a bit, and she didn't feel any connection with him. He drove her back to the party and they parted ways.

A while later, she was blown away when their nondescript motorcycle ride was turned into a song she heard on the radio.

W-- get the spelling correct
BL-- major long lasting musical genius still current

I have the shortest reader's blind item possible: I've never met any famous people. The end.

Tricia13 said...

I believe it... and Ivy got it(I think ), but only you know-Springsteen is a known guy up inNY/NJ... very regular and into his community.... and to all who meet him ; I didn’t love the album “Born in The USA “,but if him-I hope the song is “I’m On Fire “... I love it:)

tatty said...

I believed it too. We were Catholic school teachers at the time, so its not like she was a down and out lunatic rattling off stories. I can't even remember how we got onto the subject.

Yes, it is Bruce. (BL for badlands lol). She went by Wendy but the real spelling is Windy. The song is Born to Run.

Tricia13 said...

Aw tatty you just have me chills(my fave album is BTR)! I did bad math with the album(wondering how she wouldn’t know him after that album)...my aunts one of his most ardent fans since that album and had run ins with him all throughout 70s -he came to a show on Broadway(Hamilton) her son,my cuz works at and he was the best... he signed my cousins Springsteen tatoo... awesome guy.
Great share,Thank You:)

tatty said...

Can you imagine having a chance encounter with a soon to be American icon and then having your experience turned into an iconic song? Amazing

Tricia13 said...

Can’t say I do! But what a beautiful thing❤️๐Ÿฅ‚

tatty said...

She did kiss him BTW, ;)

As far as I could check out her story, the dates worked, (back in the 90s when I cared to do this lol). She did go to school in NJ. The song came out in 1975, so around 74/75 she would have been young twenties. Definitely his obvious type, though time seemed harsh on her... she settled in life and was a smoker, so in 94 she had some wrinkles and a sensible short haircut. She seemed a little on the worn out side (though I am 48 now so I get it)..

Springsteen got his first record deal in the 60’s. I know some people have a way better memory than me, but it’s hard for me to believe that one motorcycle ride would be that memorable.

I grew up in LA, left for Seattle in 1985. Too much concrete in LA. It’s disconcerting. I still get recognized by old timers when I get back. I forgot the stories, they keep repeating them like I’m some sort of legend. Girls I “dated” that became actresses they remember, I’ve long forgotten. I guess my biggest legend was the time we had a party at my friends house. I brought a great guitarist to play that nobody has ever heard of....Joseph Valerie Grizzanti....nope? Nobody? He still plays occasionally, I highly recommend him as he was second in reputation to Van Halen in the SG Valley music scene in the ‘70’s

Anyway I had him give away 500 joints to the crowd while onstage, I bounced a gang out of the party, and negotiated with the police, in full riot gear, to let us end the night peacefully. That I remember. Even at 17, I was considered a journeyman level HD mechanic, so that’s where people remember me from. I rebuilt a VW engine when I was 11. Pistons, rings, everything.

The thing that I remember fondly was the energy. The slam dancing. Wendy O Williams and her chain saw. Fights were almost never solved with guns. The skateboarding scene created a dynamic that was revolutionary/evolutionary into almost a cult like brotherhood.

Oh, and the cults. So wacky. Getting into the celebrity world seemed to happen all at once. One day, you know nobody but your friends. The next, Sebastian Cabot comes over to BS and get his oil changed, or you go out with a friend to see if his cars timing is off while he delivers pizza only to find out you are at Redd Foxx’s House and he has a line for you, and his friendly lady friends are into young white surfer types. So there goes two hours. That was a great night.

When you are young, well mannered, and are interesting, the world opened up to you. That was SOCAL in the ‘60’sand 70’s.

Oh, and Ryan O’Neal? Dropped him like a sack of potatoes. What an asshole!

PS I took some lorazepam today, so even though halfway through I almost deleted this post, today I soldiered on.

And Curiosity is “the mark of intelligence “; so if you aren’t interested in other people’s experiences and tales, maybe you should stick with the Oscar Wilde “Quote of the Month” club?

Reader "blinds" are bad enough, but to make them multi part is just awful.

I'm not reading these, and I'll be visiting the site less the more of them there are.

Sal T said...

4 parts of nothing so far for me. I enjoyed your blind though Tatty, thanks. That was worthy of being included on the main site. Much better than dead donkeys and celebs I’ve never heard of, or in these last blinds case, no celebs yet at all. I love Himmmm stories and long well told blinds about major stars and events. These just didn’t do it for me, but I know others are enjoying them, so I hope the readers blinds stay, a little brevity wouldn’t go amiss though. I think maybe some are trying too hard to mimic Himmmm’s style. But thanks to everyone who contributed. To each their own.

Please do not continue this blind or any other reader blinds. They have gotten progressively worse up until this one which is practically unreadable. After the first part of the blind & it's comments, I immediately went to the comments on the second part (I always make it a point to finish the entire blind before delving into the comments). After those comments confirmed what I already knew (that this ones a real snoozer) I went straight to the comments in third part & then the fourth. Enough already. Sheesh...

There was a message from someone, maybe Amanda Bynes, about Schneider, it's true. But the site hasn't added anything to the story.

To be continued: succinctly, I hope!
I know I write long posts, but there are limits to our forebearance, especially with a colour scheme that’s tough on the eyes. I actually don’t mind the Readers Blinds, per se (loved Tatti’s...Bruce always comes across as a thoroughly decent skin. And of course Wendy kissed him, he’s an attractive man to this day. Friends of mine who have seen him live many times say his attractiveness is magnetic in concert.)

Ah there he/ it is....That’s rich... whose the one is that such trash they had no option but to come back under an alias(a ridiculous one at that), because they were so reviled and such a low brow freak... Or was it an excorcism?
Either way -good luck and hope it lasts ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฅ‚๐Ÿ˜

Jesus people, if you don't like it, use your back button. I don't find 100% of the content on CNN interesting, either.

I don't mind the Reader Blinds. You'd be stupid to think some of the readers of this site aren't the celebrities you'd die to meet. It's been obvious more than once that Hi-howevermanym's - is not the only one.

I don't think Harrison, Dylan or Orbinson would be considered "ragtag " or "end of the line" obscure by anyone standards.

DDonna Tarttty said...

The only reason I don't like the multi-part reader blinds is because they push other single pieces of content off the page. They've been a mixed bag, but some have definitely been interesting. But try to keep them as one long post, maybe with different segmented sections?

tatty said...

I agree they try to emulate hiiiimmmm. Just keep it to the point. Not every story is a drama. Like Wendy's: nice guy, nice night, nice ride. She was BLOWN away and giggled at the passion and the emotion of the sogng lyrics-- he got all of that from our ride??!?! Lol

I facebook stalked her last night. She looks really good-- better than in the 90s. Red hair down to her shoulders, parted in the middle. She looks happy and relaxed.. retired. Lots of red headed grand children. Her husband looks like an old hippie lol. They live in the West now.

Tatty is just relaying a story they were told. So what if the old run down friend believes Bruce Springsteen wrote a song about her and a non sexual encounter. We all got to have something we hang on to.

Missy Bigbritches said...

@Muchluv13 - Me, too! "Who is Redd Kross?" Harrumph, I oughta... I lurve ya, Tricia, but you gotta know the McDonald brothers' history and Hollywood lore! lol

tatty said...

Right lol. It doesn't bother me if people don't believe it. Unless Bruce himself made a statement confirming or denying it, how would we know? Also, Wendy wasnt even mentioned in the original lyrics that were auctioned off-- she was added to song at a late date.

Maybe she is delusional. Maybe Enty's entries are from delusional minds.

Like snappy said, we all gotta hang on to something to get through life.

I LOVE the reader blinds! If other people don’t like them, they can just skip over them. I want to hear the rest of this story! And just to be difficult, I will send in my own reader blinds. Don’t fret, they will be short, simply because I don’t have any he energy to go into detail. :))

I used to work as an extra in Toronto in the 90s and worked on a film starring a then-famous foreign-born actor who was married to a supermodel. On set he was the grossest, sleaziest, sluttiest guy I’ve ever seen. He was constantly on the make but always crude and icky. I wondered how a guy could act that way and still get laid (to say nothing of being married to one of the hottest women on earth).

I still remember the term he taught me to describe having sex: “parting the beef curtains.”

Nubian Princess said...

Oh preach Tricia! I'm on fire is a sexxy song! Love it.

This was never intended to be broken up into 4 bloody parts, but rather one ginormous story with a second part to be submitted later when 'the writer' had time. never mind the missing links to songs/videos, which were intended to provide a aural element or soundtrack if you will to the BI's visualized memory.

To complainers, Enty requested reader submissions of tales a la Himmmm's origin stories, i.e. "a crazy/memorable day or night in the reader's life". This one is about growing up and coming of age in the City of Angels, in the shadow of Hollywood, during the late 80s/early 90s.

If it sounds boring, stupid, uninteresting, or whatnot, then by all means hit that back button and move the fuck along. That said...
