Blind Item #14 - Oscars

When this permanent A+ list mostly movie actress was asked a #YouKnew type question, the actress said, "We're done here," and walked off.

Gotta be Meryl.
Mayyyyybe Jodie Foster, but most likely Meryl.

You have to admit, she is really good at acting like she cares.

Queen Meryl

JLaw better not be permanent.

Her Streepness' level of arrogance when it comes to this topic is pretty mindblowing.

I've never been a fan of Meryl Streep, but always enjoyed some of her movies.
Now? I cannot watch her in anything. I feel the same way about George Clooney.
The Bitching, moaning and lecturing from these two have ruined them for me.
When I heard that Meryl may be involved in Big Little Lies, it immediately ruined the show for me.
I didn't watch the Oscars but was thrilled Meryl didn't win last night.

JLaw isn't really A+ even now. A+ actresses open movies.

J said...

That's why there's no credibility.

If you're going to start denouncing and ostracizing people for bad behavior, do so equally across the board.

Hillary Clinton got to appear on the Grammies, with that gang-banger rap girl (classy), right after it came out that she protects abusers.

I’m just curious... said...

Where’s Kate Winslet? I have not heard one comment from her on the Harvey debacle and she normally can’t wait to sound bite her thoughts and loves to walk the red carpet for the Oscars. Could she possibly be keeping a low profile because she doesn’t want to be asked any Harvey questions because she did a JLaw?

T. W. said...

I hope that woman and others like her are done.

Maude Lebowski said...

How reliable is Blind Gossip?

A few months ago they ran a blind about how Streep *allegedly* led aspiring actresses "like sheep to slaughter" to Harvey's predation

hothotheat said...

Hilary was nominated for a grammy (recorded a book). That may have been why she was there.

hothotheat said...

She did respond. Said he was a bully on the set of a movie she did that TWC produced. Revolution Road maybe?

PghGirl said...

I feel the same way about her joining Big Little Lies and her ruining it for me.

Amartel said...

They're fine with scolding Other People but can't/won't play by the same rules they'd like to impose on others. No Time for Time's Up.

J said...

Being there is one thing. If she was nominated, it would be difficult to prevent her from being there. Featuring her in a skit is an entirely different matter.

Every day the message is how "we" are "all" responsible. Yet you get someone caught red-handed in a clear-cut case of punishing the victim and rewarding the abuser, and she gets a complete pass.

No credibility whatsoever.

All I could think of whenever Meryl was on screen last night was, "She Knew."

trufflepig said...

Kate Winslet said Harvey was a bully, and she patted herself on the back for not thanking him in her acceptance speech in 2009. What a heroine!

And if I remember correctly, she expressed her regret over having worked with 'certain people' (which she would not name) at some British awards show a few weeks ago. I didn't watch it, but from what I've read she became very emotional on stage. Fought back tears and shit. What an actress!

‘That Meryl Streep! She’s such a phony baloney!’ 🤣

I’m just curious... said...

Total actress. I don’t believe a word that comes out of her mouth. She said she hadn’t weighed herself for years. BS how can you not keep an eye on your weight if you’re an actress, just for continuity of filming if nothing else. Said she takes her kids to school and her teacher at school said she was fat and would amount to nothing. Oh come on Kate, I went to a pretty crap school in England with total wank teachers and even they wouldn’t have said that to a pupil, let alone the Posh grammar you went to. Stop with the BS! I totally think she slept with Harvey and didn’t think twice about it. Needs must and all that!

JLaw is a huge star and A+ star but this blind is about Meryl 100%.

Count Jerkula said...

Everyone knew. What were they gonna do, start talking about it while paid off "victims" remained silent as to not break their NDAs and have to pay the money back?

Sign Name Below said...

I did not want Big Little Lies to ever end. When there was a possibility that it would be back, I was so excited! Then Streep was attached and poof*!* My level of interest in Big Little Lies evaporated like water droplets on a hot pan.

For me, I am just sick of Meryl Streep. I never got over her starting a standing ovation for Roman Polanski. Her hypocrisy throughout the MeToo/TimesUp movement has made her truly disgusting to me.

beebopcowboy said...

PERMANENT A+ list = Meryl Streep

Streep is just as good an actor off-screen. She is the best liar in the business.

if you didnt know Meryl, why did you warn both your daughters about him when they were starting out acting 10 years ago????

f that old hypocritical hag.

I would agree with CJ that everyone knew, everyone knows, it's a hierarchy in which sex is as important as wealth and power (things which are not entirely distinct from each other). Is an activist movement going to remove the sexual component of the industry ecosystem? I'm in favor of that, but I don't think it's going to happen. But to the extent that the content on this site is accurate, it will be interesting to watch how the discussion of the reality has any effect on the reality.

Marlin said...

I’ll chime in too. Big little lies was ruined for #metoo, I was so disappointed to hear Streep signed on. My gut tells me she approached them to improve her image. Maybe if we all complain to hbo she will suddenly have scheduling conflicts. I agree too, liked a lot of her movies but after the Polanski ovation and her Oscar speech last year and her total clueless uppity arrogance this past year, I will never ever pay to see anything she is in again. I KNEW big little lies should have been one and done, that it could only go downhill.

T. W. said...

After the Oscars last night I think the Me Too movement is stuck. Nothing will change until all the creeps are named. Oh, that's right. There will be no one left in the entertainment industry.

Marlin said...

And I was thrilled to see The Post and Streep go home empty handed

J said...

T.W., I agree. Why should regular Joes across the country care about Hollywood lectures when Meryl, Oprah, etc. -- who really have power to upset things -- don't do crap?

There's no reason for them to worry about thirsty pretty people who absolutely need to be Hollywood stars, who would spit on you if you suggested they go to college and learn accounting.

"We all knew?" No, YOU all knew, and apparently you didn't really care that much.

Bigbro411 said...

Out of anyone, I would hope Meryl wouldn't be a mean-spirited person when the cameras stopped rolling. I don't blame her if she "knew" something was kind off with Harvey, but didn't say anything. But if she full on KNEW what was going on and said nothing, and refuses to address it, that shatters my perception of her.

trufflepig said...

@Count Jerkula

I partially agree. People like Winslet or Streep (that I believe weren't harrassed by Weinstein, but knew what was going on) could hardly just walk around and tell everyone he was a sexual predator.

BUT they could have refused to work with him. They could have refused to work with or cheer on Roman Polanski who AMITTED to having sex with a 13-year-old at the age of 43. They could at least have spared us their fake outrage. You can't act outraged about Weinstein all while supporting people like Polanski or Woody Allen without people calling you a hypocrite.

Count Jerkula said...

Only thing that may change is dudes wont proposition, acrtesses gonna have to take the initiatve and throw the pussy around, like in tbat alleged jlaw blind today. Predatory Poon, attempting to prey on every man's need to evacuate his testicles

Brian said...

I didn't watch the show. Did Meryl give Gary Oldman a standing ovation, the same way she did Casey Affleck and Roman Polanski?

PhyllisWhitweed said...

I've known so many executives who act like this in the real world, does that make me responsible to bring them all down? A lot of the people judging here don't seem to understand the near impossibility of taking down a billionaire.

JJ said...

If it wasn't la Meryl, then how about Kidman? She made 9 movies with him, he featherbedded her into the Grace of Monaco disaster and she hasn't said a word!

And of course everybody knew. In 2001 I was a director's assistant - the lowest thing you can be without not getting paid - and I FREAKING KNEW!

Brian said...

Nobody is blaming Meryl for not bringing Harvey down. It's her pretending that she had no idea what was going on that's the issue. If you're not even going to admit hearing the rumors that everyone else was hearing, then STFU with your self righteousness, you lying bitch.

Scandi Sanskrit said...

Yeah because people learn "accounting", work in finance, decide they want to be "artists", realise it doesn't make that much money, so they set up a long con on their old school friend, huh? Yup.

Scandi Sanskrit said...

LOL. I didn't realise #YouKnew was a thing. I love it.

Easy Meryl Streep. Maybe I am reading too much into some of the presenters comments, but I cant help thinking of the Billboard "Name, names or get the hell off the stage!" Not sure who the sassy lass who presented with Mya Rudolph is, but when she asked Streep to be her Mom, and then said "we have to get the money!" then as she was walking away pointing at her. Then the Jodie Foster/JLaw. JF:"Meryl did this to me". "JL:"She is always so nice to your face" JF: "That's because she is a great actress." Again JF pointing at her. Then Frances Mcdormond "They will all do it if you, do it Meryl" Also the Best Actor and Actress montages were very interesting. So maybe its wishful thinking on my part, but yeah. Every dog has their day.

Maude Lebowski said...

I saw a pic of those billboards and I never connected the repeated Meryl name-drops, but now that you have mentioned it...Yeah I agree

J, i’ll borrow a phrase I see daily on twitter, but regarding a different controversial political figure, “Hillary Clinton has lived rent-free inside your head for 20 years” (this is where I would insert many charming laughy emojis to signal that this is a good-natured joke & you should get over your Clinton Derangement Syndrome)

Kno Won said...

This is the point.
EVERYONE KNEW.
By picking one person (who famously made a “political speech” some folks didn’t like) it’s painfully obvious that it’s not only about MeToo and you’re a bigger hypocrite than those you denounce.
EVERYONE KNEW.
Either stop consuming entertainment or STFU.

Kno Won said...

No one has any idea what kind of NDA anyone signed.

Kno Won said...

People only see & hear what they want to. If they think Streep is getting a free ride, they’ll look no further.
I also thought she got jabbed a lot.
I am in no way saying Streep shouldn’t be vilified.
I’m saying it’s MASSIVE hypocrisy to also not call out others who knew & played along, which is frickin EVERYONE in the industry for almost 100 years.
Apply the rules evenly or step off.
Everyone always knew & that’s fact.

Unknown said...

Sick of Meryl as well. Used to love her, now I don't want to watch anything with her. Sanctimonious fake as fuck hypocrite.

Let me just say I was an intern in the same building the Weinstein offices were in in New York during 2016 for 7 months( I delivered mail and newspapers to his office, never saw him but my sister did when we were in the lobby to pick something up). Anyways, Meryl Streep has an office probably 20 feet away from where I sat (again, I was an executive services intern so we delivered mail to her office, talked with her assistant pretty frequently, etc). My boss had told me stories about HW that she experienced first hand and I don’t for a second believe that me, a lowly intern, had inside info on Harvey Weinstein’s horrible behavior and MS had no freaking clue.

Why do we make women responsible for men's behaviour?

What’s Tea said...

Who didn't know? is a better question everyone knew or maybe even better who didn't help put someone in a vulnerable position to further their careers. I've heard the very real stories and seen the scenarios played out in movies that predate me. Casting couch/women getting taken advantage of and saying nothing. I've had 1st hand experience that rich people are just as mean and even meaner than common people when you add power to the scenario in the hands of people who'll do anything to keep it or progress then all this makes sense. The darker side of human nature takes over when you know there's no consequence for your actions.
