Your Turn

You go on Antiques Roadshow. Do you think the item you would bring would be great or a bust?

Know how to spot the blind guy at a nudist colony? It isn’t hard

I actually was on it and was on the feedback booth at the end! My item wasn't worth anything ha

I've always wondered about the old family heirloom linked with a transatlantic voyage and suicide, would be kind of bummed if it came from a souvenir shop.

Huge. Vintage Wacky Packages series 1-16 from 1967-1977 I got all the cards including Ratz Crackers and Cracked Animals - rare. Plus one original painting. Whole collection at this point close to 100k. It's the only thing I got worth anything. Question is, after my generation is dead, who's gonna want it....i love them though so...

Love Antiques Roadshow!

Bust. I have horrible luck.

I have (what I was told by my mom was) the very first record/picture disc. It was made by a company in the 1940s that was trying to get my grandfather to invest. He did. The company made 3 recordings, and went bust.

When picture discs got popular again in the 70s, I asked my mom if I could have it. I've kept it safe through all my moves and the like over the years.

I think it might be worth a few dollars.

I think mine would do okay, as I have seen similar items do okay. My grandmother's costume jewelry from the 1940's and early 50's, and Occupied Japan china service for 12. I wouldn't be able to retire like Rhinoceros Horn Cups guy, but they would probably do decently.

My mom has a giant old fashioned metal Pepsi Cola bottle cap, red, white and blue, that she got years ago from a gas station that was closing down. It used to hang in our basement. I think she should have it appraised or at least write to Pepsi and see how much they might want for it, if anything.

Bust. I've historically abandoned most of my material things of any value.

Although, I've just realized I have a hand numbered, first edition copy of A. Monroe Aurand's, The Pow-Wow Book, that I saw is listed currently on Amazon for $700+. Not that I'm parting with it. Just as an ah-ha moment.

I think I would get a good appraisal if I went on. I have a Picasso sketch and two original paintings by a successful "Group" of artists. I know what they're worth because of insurance but I could find out something interesting I didn't know about them.
My mother is distantly related to Maudie Lewis and has a few of her pieces.

Someone actually went on AR recently with something I own - a William S. Burroughs tshirt that he signed and shot with a gun...the casings are included. A colleague gave it to me about 20 years ago because he wasn't familiar with Burroughs, and it's worth $500 - $800 now. I love that show.

I keep recordings to watch when my husband and I make dinner together. It doesn’t distract us too much while we are prepping. The fun ones are the old ones where they do an updated price of what something is worth! They will show an episode from 1998 and after they give the value will then show what the item is worth now. Some things can really DROP in value! Lol I would love to go on the show, but the waiting in line would probably be horrendous! I’ll jist go to an appraiser when I decide to see what my heirlooms are worth.

I have a marble MGM lion signed by the artist and I can't find out anything about it.

@DoTell Just watch a few episodes of American Pickers. It seems like they are always finding and buying stuff like that

I wouldn’t go on unless I was reasonably confident I had something of value after significant research, so I think I’d do okay.

I have some 100+ year old Royal Albert that i know is worth quite a bit. Pattern is very hard to find & was discontinued in the 1930s. The oldest piece i have is a chocolate cup from 1830. I’ve sought & bought pieces from all over the world.
I accidentally own the largest private collection of an american artist whose works hang in the Whitehouse. I started buying them because i like them - and then there were no more to buy.
Oh! I also have one of the last known full bottles of Guerlain’s Djedi, 1926 issue. I bagged some guy in Paris who was cleaning out his grandmother’s attic. But I bought it to wear. It’s life.
I’ll end up living under a bridge with my teapots & paintings. 🙄

Kno Won said...

Yeah, that’s “badgered” not bagged.
Not that I wouldn’t do both for that dusty glamorous bottle of fabulosity.

Very cool!

Good to great. I come from a family of collectors of all kinds of things. I'd do great if there's nothing blockbuster in the crowd trying to get on TV. I have a few things I inherited from my collecting parents that I've seen on the Roadshow already (others had same clock & similar watch for example.

I have four playboy ashtrays from the 1960s Bunny Club along with two lighters and four glasses. My mother might have stolen them. LOL. I'd love to know how much they are worth. The ashtrays are the most hideous orange color but are just adorable.

@Kno - I was actually quite impressed that you bagged some guy in Paris...always been a dream of mine. : )

Many years ago the animator Chuck Jones did a very nice pencil drawing for me of Bugs Bunny and Marvin the Martian. He signed it to me with his name and the date. It's probably not worth a tremendous fortune, but I'm sure it's worth something. Not that it's going anywhere.

I think I'd do well with some things, and honestly have no idea on some others. I have my grandmother's figurine collection from the old country, some are from the very first year of release Hummels which is cool but I have no idea if they're worth anything and I have some others marked with Meissen maker's marks and some Dresden and some marks I can't figure out. I'd love to take them in regardless of value to hear the history.

Oh I also found two complete cards of handmade satsuma porcelain buttons in an estate sale that LOOK like they're from the late 1800's - I'd love to know for sure. They are exquisite little Japanese buttons, one blue and white with bamboo design and the other card is pink and gold inlay with a cherry blossom motif.

I'm gonna take the (non)internet connection for my office. Although it's not worth shit, it may shame the owner into getting up to date

Kno Won Uno: very recently there was an EMPTY French perfume bottle on ebay that went for over $1700.00

I've applied to be on the show six times, and always get the reject notice. I think who gets in is fixed.
Yes, I do have some nice things I wonder about. Too shy for the camera. Would LOVE to meet
Kevin Zavian. Hot!

And, Bruce Shakleford. Yeah, he's a big guy, but his brain and knowledge power qualify him as HOT.

I'd bring my mom's asian pottery collection. Last time she took a piece to an appraiser his eyes popped out of his head. They sort of ugly brown.

I would do badly. I sort of obsessively refinish furniture. I am given to understand that I have ruined their value.

I do have a signed 1st Edition Little Dorrit, and a few other interesting books.

Yoo all have some interesting and cool things. Antique Roadshow is one of the few shows I watch. It never gets old.

I have to put this somewhere. I want you all to know, it's no surprise Paul Ryan chose not to run again. I'm in his district, and we all fucking hate him, Democrats, and Republicans. While being a big deal in Washington, he did nothing to fix anything where he lives, never checked up on us, never showed up to anything. There was a phone pole just days ago, that was damn near 100% about him, and how you feel about him, would you vote for him? He was testing the waters, and they were hot with anger. He knew, without a doubt, the people are going to vote for the moron running, instead of him. He had to duck out of the race, because losing to this other guy, would be a monumental embarrassment, and it would be spoken about, and he would be laughed at, for the rest of his life! We are all in celebration mode in Wisconsin. Unfortunately, likely few will see this, i i wh it was made into a blind for full effect. And by the way, yes I've met him more times than i can count. He was my neighbor.
