Blind Item #17

In the past year or two, there have been a treasure trove of documents that have been scanned and saved to the cloud from the archives and vaults of this nearly 100 year old studio. It basically just partners up with other studios now, but back in the day, it was huge. One of the documents dug up confirms that long long talked about rumor that this permanent A list mostly movie actor did, in fact, drive drunk and kill a pedestrian and that someone else went to jail for it. The document has the name of the person hired to go to jail. Apparently they only went to jail for six months, but was guaranteed a job for twenty years for doing it.

These old hollywood people had more wrong with them than the people these days jfc... I never cared for old movies but I'm a sucker for some stories.
Also @cc love how that article says it's false lol

This site is great for telling senior family members that their old stars were monsters who probably would have preferred to skullf*ck them rather than give them an autograph. Please take the time to visit your loved ones in nursing homes, they miss you.

The seniors already know. I grew up with my granny telling me stories about Frank Sinatra, the gangster. In fact that’s how she referred to him “that gangster”

Yeah, they heard these stories, pretended they didn't believe them, but ,like us,knew most were true.

Ah - but the Snopes article was lasted updated 3 years ago in 2015. The blind says the scanning / saving of the studio documents has been over the past two year. There may be something to this tale of Hollywood lore.

My mother told me that when Marilyn Monroe sang "Happy Birthday" to JFK that most of the country figured they were having an affair.

I don't know if it was half the country, but my mom and grandmother sure did.

Do I get this right, someone was paid to turn themselves in to authorities and confess to the crime the actor committed?

DDonna, my grandmothers went to see Liberace when I was very little, and from the jokes they were making about him that I definitely didn't understand at the time, they absolutely knew he was gay. I think there were always people astute enough to pick up on signals and subtext and those who weren't able to do it.

If it’s the MGM files that have been opened, let’s find out the real story behind why Jean Harlow’s husband shot himself. Paul Bern. Yes, I’ve heard all the rumors.

I’d also like to hear more on Ginger Rogers’ love life. She was married 5 times but had lots of in between activity - and Ginger was on top. Jimmy Stewart, Howard Hughes, Leland Hayward, Astaire very early in their careers, Jean Gabin, Desi Arnaz, Caesar Romero, Robert Taylor, Robert Evans...Ginger ran her own show. Never drank alcohol, but clearly got her pleasures elsewhere.

At least in these old Hollywood things I've heard of the names mentioned which is more than can be said for the blinds involving pigshit thick rappers, reality fuckwits and "celebrity" offspring.

I grew up in the 50,s when movie magazines were gospel. I love the old Hollywood stories. I was so naive, it took me a while to learn that anything was possible if the studios wanted to spin it.

Aren't all things terrible that contradict your fantasies?

@Viking Song

Fat couple or not, they never pretend to be an authority on anything. That's for a reader to decide, though Snopes puts in some amazing investigative work which I respect many times.

Do Tell said...

It is about Clark Gable, and the studio is probably Warner Brothers. Aside from Paramount, it's the only one left, AFAIK, from the Golden Age of Hollywood,

I don't know why anyone would think a coverup like this is was unthinkable. There was an entire movie made about the Hollywood studio system's ties with and control of local law enforcement and Kim Basinger won an Oscar for her performance in that movie. ("L.A. Confidential")

"The Fixers" is a pretty good, eyeopening book about those days.

Only people who were brainwashed by Facebook memes into voting for a Reality TV Game Show host and now try anything possible to hold on to the AltRight fairy tale propaganda that they were gullible enough to believe would ever say anything so desperate.

Not really. Successful real estate developers don’t need to throw their names on steaks, vodka fraudulent universities and other “get rich quick” ventures. And two failed casinos, get christssake!!

Amazing investigative work?! Yeah, no. They've routinely defended/excused Islamic paedos and Muslims beating the shit out of women/children because we musn't offend our Muslim overlords, must we? So whenever a video of a Muslim stamping on a woman's head appears on the internet, Snopes swoops in and claims the attacker wasn't a muslim...even though people who live in his street And knew him say he was (2 Muslims beating up young Dutch girl video springs to mind..). They're pond scum as far as I'm concerned. And I never said *they* claimed to be an authority. I said they weren't an authority on what's factual or not because, like a lot of people, I'm sick and tired of people posting their links with a "well, it can't true because Snopes say so!" Seriously, they're a pair of overweight shutins. Not some fucking all seeing, all knowing eye.

"They've routinely defended/excused Islamic paedos and Muslims beating the shit out of women/children"

I've never seen Snopes defend or excuse anyone. They present what they can find and explain that pretty dang well. They seem less personally involved than you imagine probably because YOU can't imagine anyone being different from yourself and YOUR personal investment in many things.

I really don't know about the Muslim stories. A link to that on Snopes would be helpful.

"I said they weren't an authority on what's factual or not"

As are none of us, but Snopes does some very good investigation.

"I'm sick and tired of people posting their links with a "well, it can't true because Snopes say so!""

That is not Snopes' problem. Blame the people you know (heh) who say such things.

Well Snopes spends more of their time looking for what can be verified about urban legends and what cannot - much more than most people who depend on things like "their gut" (insert eyeroll.)

"they're a pair of overweight shutins"

Again, that does not matter. Don't you feel a little bit ashamed using their physical appearance as some sort of justification for your derision? It lessens your position considerably.

"Not some fucking all seeing, all knowing eye."

Damn dude! Quit exaggerating. Snopes never claimed to be such and not many claim in for them either.

VikingSong said...

The "I've never seen it so it didn't happen" argument is weak. Just because you're not informed/ignorant about something doesn't mean it's not true. I'm not a dude either and I'm entitled to my opinion about Snopes, whether you like it or not. They're apologists for Islamic violence. That's not based on a "gut feeling." It's based on their history of downplaying and downright falsifying facts related to videos/news stories regarding Islamic violence.

Forbes and the Daily Mail have both exposed extreme bias, corruption and lack of clear standards @ SNOPES.COM

@Snopes has never addressed the claims of embezzlement, nepotistic hiring practices, and a strong liberal bias.

The owner claims a "divorce settlement prevents him from making a statement regarding the Daily Mail and Forbes requests for information.

@plot is either mentally ill or a paid poster. I've exposed her making wildly contradictory statements on multiple different threads.

Meh, OK, so maybe she didn't bonk Cesar Romero. I might have been confusing him with someone else.

But Ginger was very much the Alpha female who chose the men in her life, who cycled in and out. That's never really been chronicled, not least in her boring autobiography, which mostly focuses on her Christian Science faith and her relationship with her mother.

Unlike Joan Crawford, another Alpha female, Ginger never had any children. Anyway, she was RKO for the most interesting part of her career, and I have no idea where their archives are now.

If this is Gable, we're talking about the MGM archives. Gable was with MGM for almost all of his career and was one of the very last stars they let go as the studio disintegrated around them in the 1950s.

@lunch: Like it or not, he was a successful real estate developer,. He is also an entrepreneur. One of the reasons he turned the Trump business into an empire is because he expanded his brand into other products. This is what a smart businessperson does. Barbara Corcoran made her money in real estate and is now a judge on Shark Tank, and a venture capitalist. She too has expanded her brand.

And as for the failed casinos, which is often fallaciously used as a swipe at Trump, anyone who has gone to Atlantic City on a regular basis since the 90's knows those casinos have been in trouble for a long, long time. His were not the only ones to go under, and the bad economy in the early to mid 90's meant people were not going to gamble as much. On top of that, new casinos were being built in Connecticut and upstate New York, which drew people away from Atlantic City.

Do Tell said...

He was a CORRUPT real estate developer who lost his entire inheritance banking on things like steaks, casinos and airplanes - all failures.

@plot His brands are still in business. He hasn't lost his money or his empire, his primary business has always been real estate, largely commercial real estate, (hotels, resorts, to a lesser extent some residential buildings) which is still the case and is still expanding.

The only point I was making in my previous post to @apple is that Reality TV Game Show Host is not an accurate description for his primary career, which is and always has been real estate developer and venture capitalist.

@Pap

"how Trump brought peace to Korea"

Not yet he hasn't and Kim has played games with every leader on the planet for a long time. I'd be very happy if Kim dissolved his nukes but very much doubt Trump is going to be able to negotiate that end. If he does, expect Kim to refuse inspections (it's what he did before after signing an agreement for a HUGE pile of cash from us.)

If Donny Moscow can work something out, great! But I highly doubt he will be able to give us more than a superficial win that is less than all the other wins anyone has achieved with Kim. Trump is all about the appearance of winning (he's an innate loser) rather than actual negotiations and building of treaties. I mean, are YOU going to read all the memos and the whole text of the treaty to see if Kim agreed to anything? No? Then do STFU when claiming Donny is doing anything like "brought peace" unless you are willing to learn more.

"why Mueller failed to bring him down"

Oh! Is that investigation over? Has there been a conclusion? How many indictments as it brought about (19 so far) and how many people going to prison (5 maybe 5 more by the end of summer)?

I thought you Trumpies were all about swamp draining. Guess you are ignoring the one actually doing that.

plot said...

@Do Tell

"His brands are still in business"

His brand is owned by a consortium of banks, not Donny and not his family. That was the payout during one of his many bankruptcies - the banks now own the brand and Donny is it's salesperson.

So, in other words, Donny is a salaried employee to his brand.

He made his own money off The Apprentice but even then, if the logo or image was used he had to pay the banks to use it.

Donny actually owns very little of what he claims to own. Licensing the name is a different beast than actually building the hotels and staffing them...which Trump does not do. In any case, the banks (which are still owed money) take the majority of the licensing profits and pay Donny a salary.

The only way Donny is making any money now is through money laundering, particularly for Russians and Eastern Europeans. They overpay for his properties to legitimize money, most of which Donny hands back to them cleansed but he does get a cut.
