Your Turn

Would you be more likely to watch a Facts Of Life (RIP Mrs Garrett) reboot or ALF reboot? Or do you not care because the shows are so old, you have no idea what they are and you are wondering why Hollywood doesn't let writers write and not reboot old stuff all the time.

I think if the only things TV and movies can come up with as "original" programming are reboots and sequels and comic book franchises there isn't much I'd want to watch. I'm not watching Murphy Brown either.

Neither

Neither! Dear God NOOOO!!!! (Enty..could you stop courting those pizzagate wackos?)..do you really need the clicks that badly?

No reboots. They need to come up with new material.

in a surprise twist it turns out that Alf was Q Anon the whole time!

Old enough to remember both in original versions (ALF was awful, Facts Of Life was a pretty mediocre 80s sitcom though Charlotte Rae did her best). I really do not need a reboot of either thanks.

I will watch a reboot/adaptation only if it interests me or is something I’m nostalgic about. I am tired of the influx of reboots though, let the writers write. 1/10 times you probably are going to get a good original show idea.

I never watched ALF so I guess I would have to go with Facts Of Life. I am so ready for reality TV to be over. I wish there would be more original programming. Its a different world now, though. The networks don't give the shows a chance to catch on and just and ax them.

ALF was crap the first time and Facts of Life is a very dated concept. 12 yo girls are extra slutty these days. You'd never be able to capture the innocence and wholesome nature of the original.

Neither. Won't watch Murphy Brown either, but I'd watch that before either of these.

I still can't believe they didn't produce a half-hour wrap-up for "Alf" after ending it on such a terrible cliffhanger.

Q Anon: The Animated Series
It'll be the Captain Planet of the 2020s and I'll finally be an action figure in the second run.

I loved both shows, BUT..
Nobody can ever replace TOOTIE.

I'll go with Alf.

I once saw an Alf porn video. Ruined me for life on him. FOL, however, was so mind numbingly stupid, I might rather see Alf and think of his magic semen.

If the complaint is that 'Hollywood doesn't let writers write', you'd have to believe there are writers with something original to write, but is there evidence for that?

Hollywood/TV networks/MSM, et al., are quite happy with 100 bored people watching a bland canned reboot, rather than chasing 99 engaged people watching an interesting original product. And writers are just as happy cashing the checks for grade-school level work.

Or is this just a sly way to bring up Ken Jennings' issues?

Neither. If I want to watch an old show, I just watch the old show. I don't need a new bastardized version written by people with far less talent than their predecessors, who are probably doing it so they can change "problematic" aspects of the original.

Neither, but I might watch the reboot for Magnum PI that is coming, just to check it out (not expecting much, and they should probably leave iconic shows alone).

Any self respecting lesbian of a certain age would watch facts of life any day, especially over Alf.
Anyway, Alf sucks due to that terrible ending. Ugh.

They're rebooting to complete the circuit in the programming for all us Gen Xer's.

Never saw Facts of Life but loved Alf as a kid so i'd give that a go.

Neither.
At this point, I would not be able to stomach a show about a bunch of young girls, because I'd know what they went through to get the job.

And ALF was just stupid.
Come up with new ideas, Hollywood.

For the love of God no more reboots!

Amartel said...

NO MORE REBOOTS.
please.
They're never as good.
These shows are beloved because they were the only thing available at the time, not because they were great tv or anything. Also, because of characters like this. Rebooting them will not make them great tv.
Millenials: Just watch the originals.
Hollywood: Come up with something new. If you dare.

I want to see a Married with Children reboot after Ed is done with MF! I think it would be awesome!

Why more reboots?
There are plenty of good books and stories for inspiration!

alf reruns because anne sheeden and max wright sort of considered themselves more serious actors and their snarky eye-rolling acting was hilarious.
an alf reboot would probably take the whole thing way too seriously.

Not interested in these recycled shows...is the no original thoughts left?

With reboots you take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and now you have the facts of life.

Didn't they make a failed attempt to continue The Facts of Life with Blair as faculty at Eastland? I think they tried to lump it on to the end of the show then continue I but if didn't work out.

They could easily bring back some cast members and try again. however, I think Alf makes more sense since he's a puppet. But it would be weird without at least some of the original cast. Especially after that horrible series finale. They did wrap that up in a TV movie. But I think many people didn't see it. But I think Alf gets recognised as having rights as an alien or something like that.

There's no point in doing a reboot. Those tend to suck. But it's also hard to continue where you left off if there's not enough original cast members. I say leave it alone.

I am so sick of reboots. will never watch any of them.

Reboots rarely if ever seem to be done well, I'd rather see some original content.

I have a strong aversion to reboots.
Get your own damned ideas.

I'd watch a reboot of Facts of Life if Tootie, Jo, Blair and Natalie are in it too, but not with an all new cast. I'd also love to see them bring Mckenzie Astin back too, he was and still is adorable.

The later years were my fave, I loved the Over Our Heads shop and wished I could work someplace like that.

Since Stormy Daniels said that Trump's penis looks like Alf's nose, I can't look at him. So Facts of Life.

I know exactly what both shows are, and I don't want to watch a remake of either of them.

Yes, there was an "ALF" finale movie, six years later and with none of the original cast and it was not funny and sad and made the original ending even worse.

I choose to watch the original Facts of Life. It's airing on Logo.

I'll say Facts of Life. Cause I still have a crush on Blair.

If I had a gun to my head, do Alf but I'd rather see Greg the Bunny. On HBO so they'll be less restricted with the script.

Unknown said...

Neither's worthy of a reboot--they both sucked! New ideas, people! (Or reboot Fawlty Towers.)

I would watch a Facts of Life reboot, yes. They are lovely ladies, inside and out. The show actually got better in later years; the writing was always excellent. You could always see that they truly enjoyed each other; it came across on the screen.
