I love how some people can never be concerned when it has nothing to do with them. So what the victim didn't want him prosecuted. The victim doesn't try the criminal. The state does. I have been reading all those Polanski-related indignant comments here and there, and, frankly, can't be arsed about the whole media circus. Technically, Polanski spent the last two months in prison. The problem is that the USA never told the Swiss to arrest him. An employee of the Swiss Government knew he was coming and emailed (or faxed, I don't remember) the US authorities asking them if they should arrest him. The USA said "yes" but I guess they didn't have enough time to actually think about what to do next.

It has left a big mess in Switzerland and the politicians are laughed at because of it.

What this shows is the US is incompetent or this was all for show, how many other international criminals are caught and an extradition order is signed and US Marshalls go pick them up? I'm sure the Swiss figure he's been there in custody and no one cares enough to sign the order and come and get him, I would assume that this was not very important either because every other criminal is picked up right away, the hearing to extradite is heard right away.

I'm not sure what game the US or the Dist Atty was playing but no one is going to pick up Roman Polanski to face charges here or it would have happened by now. He's not going to run, he's going to walk right out and no one will stop him. The question is why is this happening?

What is ironic is that he spent more time in jail in Switzerland waiting for extradition that he would have spent in prison in California in the first place if he hadn't fled the country. And I don't think California is serious about wanting him back since he had already plea bargained down the rape charge and the victim, bless her heart, just wants it all done with.
