I think Katie Holmes looks genuinely happy in the picture. There have been lots of photos of her with this really fake smile, but I think this is a real one.

I love Steve Coogan. LOVE HIM. His bit with Alfred Molina in "Coffee and Cigarettes" was great. And "24 Hour party People", although a bit too long, is an all time favourite of mine.

I wonder if Jena's hair is for a movie. I kind of like it. I've been havig a bad hair month and am seriously considering just chopping it right off. I mean, I won't, 'cause I don't have the guts, but I want to.

I opened up the Italian Vogue the other day and it was ad page after ad page chock-full of white models. I didn't get very far into the mag, but I remember noting that the first dozen or so ads had no models of color.

Totally perplexing. You'd think that some advertisers would've gotten on board with the theme. If anything, all of those ads just underscored how deep the problem of discrimination runs in the fashion industry.

that said, i've met her (once, 20 years ago when they were newlyweds) and she might as well have pissed all over him to mark her turf. it came through loud and clear! because you're right, she *could* cut a bitch. hell, i was a teenager when i met her (he wasn't with her) and obviously posed less than zero threat to their relationship but she made it perfectly clear, when his name was brought up, that even *looking* at him in her presence was verboten. (and this is at the pinnacle of duran's fame as band of the world -- like people weren't going to look at him?!)

i've also seen an interview with the two of them where she literally reached out and grabbed his crotch and said something to the effect of when they're at parties and he checks out a pretty girl, she sometimes needs to remind him that "this belongs to me, and he knows it!" i think what he does when she's not around is one thing -- don't ask, don't tell, just keep it discreet -- but when she's with him, he's HERS and don't anyone ever forget it.

I will forever love Dominique for her portrayal of Dolores Haze. She was a PERFECT Lolita, and Adrian Lyne's adaptation of that book was just gorgeous. The casting was so, so, so good. Jeremy Irons was also a great Humbert -- brooding, sexy, intellectual and middle-aged but NOT feeble -- just the way I pictured Humbert when I read the novel. Lyne totally humanized all those characters.

I adore Stanley Kubrick, but his own version was a total travesty. Sue Lyons was just an awful pick. I understand that Lyne had a tough time casting Dominique decades later for the same role, but ol' Sue was already WAY too old to play Lolita in the Kubrick version. If you've read and adore the novel, Kubrick's version just doesn't cut it. At least, I didn't think so.

Anyway, happy birthday, Dominique! Now go make a movie as good as Lolita, please! You have a prodigious amount of talent. Use it!
