At a press conference on Thursday, Martina Hingis said that she had been accused of testing positive for cocaine while she was playing at Wimbledon. Although she denies using the drug while at Wimbledon, she has never denied using the drug at other times during her career and her first retirement. Always known as a hard partier, Hingis, never let it seem to affect her game.
Hingis has known of the positive test for some time, but decided to have a press conference when news of the postive test was set to be made public. The 27 year old, Swiss born, Martina Hingis lost in the third round of Wimbledon and hasn't played tennis since September 19th.
During her press conference, Hingis announced her retirement from tennis.

Hmmm. Cocaine is the little do it all instant steriod that a lot of athletes, from football to tennis, just love. It makes you hyperactive, confident, and aggressive, and leaves less of a trace. No wonder they're all a bunch of cokeheads. I will never, ever do coke, just because, I would never want to do anything tha would associate me with the behavior and the likes of such gems as Paris "I Got Fucked In The Butt For Coke" Hilton.
I'd be too worried that I'd have a heart attack to mix coke & sports.
Good! I'd really like to see ALL sports start dealing with the rampany drug issues.
I say we give em ALL coke and really see some sports action.
Now THAT would be an interesting Olympics.
Another note, amphetamines usually takes just two days to get out of your system. She literally must've done it the night before or right before she showed up for her game. Idiot.
Actually, dreadpiratecuervo, I'm surprise we don't see the stars having heart attacks all the time!
Hingis was always an absolute bitch, on and off the court; don't know how much of that was cocaine, but the coke likely only exacerbated her naturally nasty personality.
@ Reese: Ditto
I'm still surprised it all went down like this though. Truth be told, I have been really bored with women's tennis for the past two years. its time for some new non drug using blood.
@ deadpiratecuervo: My parents scared the hell out of me about coke when they told me about Len Bias when I was 7...ugh.
A lot of remarkably young football (or soccer, as you Americans like to call it) players have been dying of sudden heart attacks recently. Their deaths have always been portrayed as a bit of a mystery, but everyone who's even slightly interested in porfessional sports knows that there's something huge going on. And these young players often come from 3rd World Countries and working as a professional athlete is the only hope to survive, not only for them but also for their families. Most of the time, they don't even know what they're taking, they just swallow whatever their well-meaning (some might say gold-digging) managers tell them to.
@Reese
I never thought of Martina as a bitch or a nasty person, telling from her interviews though, she's not the smartest girl to walk this earth - which explains the whole incident. Kudos to her though for stepping up and not denying it alltogether, like a lot of other people would have done. *cough*Lance Armstrong*cough*
