Not Gossip - In Fact, Another Gruesome Murder

I think that everyone in Canada sent me this story yesterday. I think that of the three murders this week, this is by far the most gruesome and the one that scares the hell out of me more than any of the others. I mean when you get on a Greyhound bus with your friend and co-worker I don't think you are really expecting to be stabbed, and then be decapitated while all the people on the bus are watching a movie. If you want to read about it, click here.

  1. It rewally is quite fucked up. I wonder how much business Greyhound is going to lose over this. I know I will hesitate to go on any longer trips by bus again...

  2. Weird my co-worker just told me this story and then I clicked on to cdan and BAM here it is... I believe were going threw a rage epidemic right now. Soo sad poor kid

  3. survey:

Does this event affect you differently based on gender?

I'm finding that male friends are horrified and empathize with the victim, while female friends are fascinated and grossed out, but don't think it will ever happen to them.

  4. This is just horrible--may Tim rest in peace.

  5. I think that may be the most disgusting, awful, thing I have ever read. The blood curdling scream while being attacked is what did it. Wow. I'm assuming this isn't his first time killing someone. It all sounded very Se7en.

:( Poor guy. Wrong place, wrong time. And it's not greyhounds fault but you know their business just went down the toilet like the cruise industry after all those disappearances.

Then the women you're talking to don't know who Ted Bundy is.

  7. The complete randomness is what scares the hell out of me.

  8. How could the police praise the passengers for being calm? Those passengers should be ashamed of themselves. They just sat there and watched? Bus drivers, or anyone, should be able to carry a concealed gun. God bless that poor victim.

I think he was just giving them props for not harming each other and trampling one another as they left the bus.

Even more disturbing...the attacker ate part of the body.

  10. WHAT?! Jesus, Dahmer-loving freak.

    ReplyDelete
  11. carolmr, they didn't just sit there and watch calmly, they actually went to the back of the bus and tried to help, to see if the young man was still alive.

And I can't help but wonder how any of us would have reacted at that scene, and then have the maniac turn around and rush the rest of the passengers.

I couldn't help but ponder over what the Greyhound rep told reporters at one point, that this mode of transportation was still the safest, even though bus terminals don't have metal detectors or x-ray machines... I know this was isolated, but now I'm afraid of traveling altogether with all these fucknuts roaming the streets...

  12. There's really nothing you can do, jewels. You could even stay at home and have your mail anthraxed. It's a truly f&cked up world we're living in.

    :(

  13. I wonder if the victim insulted Islam???

    ReplyDelete
  14. How could you not mention that the victim was a carnie?

Another question - are we more likely nowadays to choose "flight" in a fight-or-flight situation, since we've been taught that aggression is bad?

    ReplyDelete
  15. SERIOUSLY??!! ATE part of the body? Jeez. What a bloody, gross, dperessing week. It's scary what's out there.
Several years ago I travelled by Greyhound maybe half a dozen times, bouncing around the south, visiting family. I always carried two switchblades on me - one in my boot and the other on my back waistband. This was after 9/11 and security was "heightened". I set off the metal detectors, so they would have to "wand" me. Without fail, the waistband blade would make the wand beep and I would tell the guy "underwire in my bra" and they would let me go. ??!! Underwire?? On my back??? Security is a joke. And someone said it best yesterday, why watch a horror movie with stuff like this floatin around?

"Go GREYHOUND... and leave the BE-HEADING to UUUUUUUSSSSSS!"

... 'WORD' to those pathetic "bus passengers"...

... *you STUPID, IGNORANT, COWARDLY F*CKING SHEEP... WHY THE F*CK DIDN'T YOU ALL TROUNCE UPON THAT KNIFE-WIELDING CRETIN and STOP HIM AFTER HE FIRST STARTED "STABBING" THE VICTIM? ... you OUT-NUMBERED HIM... you COULD HAVE TORN APART and DISM"Em"MBERED HIM "Em"STEAD.

... COWARDS... the *LOT OF you*.

    ... 'nuff said.

  17. Classalpha, it is not part of their job description as humans to ravage a fucking knife-weilding psychopath with nothing but their bare fists. They did what they could when they could. I'd imagine they were all in shock by what they were seeing.

Can you imagine how they must be feeling right now? What they witnessed? What their CHILDREN witnessed?

    ReplyDelete
  18. i always take the bus and i travel a lot...but i won't be getting on a fuc*ing bus for a while now.

THE most f-ed up thing EVER

    ReplyDelete
  19. I agree, who knows how one would reacty...I hoenstly don't think I would be able to do anything if I saw that...especially confined on a bus, it's not like you can run away and call the police. I don't blame any of the passengers...they were just trying to get away from a madman. And yes, there were children on that bus. Which makes the whole thing even more unsettling.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Why would anyone blame the passengers?! How were they going to "attack" a guy slashing away with a large knife? He's gonna cut you into a million pieces - Good Lord! It is so "easy" to point fingers and blame when you weren't even there to witness the carnage. I am sure fleeing seemed like the only option to escape with your life. How dare anyone point blame at the poor passengers - and if you are blaming them then you are no better of a human than the freak that did the killing in the 1st place. A giant SUCK OFF to anyone who thinks they have a right to say anything against the poor passengers.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Look, this sort of thing very rarely happens around these parts, and while it was incredibly heinous and shocking, it simply does not happen as often as say...shootings on city streets, which while lacking sensationalistic, blood-soaked fodder, still manage to bring about the same result for the victim. All of it needs to go away.

The people on the bus were confused and terrified by what they had seen or been that happened. Only the people at the back of the bus had really witnessed anything, and let's not forget that there were children on board, and if I were a parent with a kid on that bus, I'd have made them the priority before thinking what to do next. A person goes into shock when they see something violent transpire, particularly in a country where violence is not as commonplace as it is in other countries. Oh, and ever dealt with a psycho? When there is no discernible conscience, there is also no physical control. It is highly likely that if they had tried to subdue him, someone else may have died before they had a chance to stop him.

I've seen a lot of cowards before, but they do not tend to be the witnesses to a crime. Rather, it is the perpetrator who is usually the lily-livered one.

Yup, the cowards are the ones waving the guns and knives. Don't blame the innocents who haven't figured out how to knock them down yet.

  22. Shit ENT, I almost forwarded that story to you yesterday! That is some crazy shit. Dude must have been schitzo for sure.

As for the other passengers not jumping in, the guy in front of him turned around when he heard the commotion only to see that the dude has stabbed the guy multiple times already. He apparently was way close to being dead and the psycho was wailing on the guy. Reports say that he stabbed the guy 50-60 times. None of us can say what we would have done in that same situation. Fight or flight response. They made the decision in a split second probably that there was no saving the guy and to prevent others from being hurt/killed-- they hauled ass off the bus. It took 10 mins for the cops to show up from what I read. Poor dude was gonna be dead regardless of what anyone else did to the attacker if help took that long to show up. Some reports had more detail than others of what actually happened. I can't blame those poor people for fleeing. Especially the people with children. If I were on that bus with my kid, screw everyone else: I'm getting my kid to safety.

    ReplyDelete
  23. That's just fucking disgusting. I hope they fry that motherfucker ASAP, because he doesn't deserve to breathe the same air that humans breathe.

I'm more of a "fight" person -- until it's really apparent that the odds are against me. I carry a small knife in my purse. I'd envision myself throwing it, dart-style, to stab his back, but I've never actually tried something like that before, so it would probably just smack him and bounce off. But I'd give it a shot.

  24. Carolm and CLassalpha-

How dare you call those people cowards? They stopped the fucking guy from the killing spree he had planned, he wasnt going to stop at one guy you fucking callous c*nts.

The fucking kid WAS DEAD by the time any one knew what was going on. Get a fucking clue you fucking morons. Even the fucking police didn't get on the bus!

sorry for the language but people like BOTH of you need a damn kick in the teeth for even suggesting they are cowardly.
    ignorance is bliss mofos.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Plus it was late at night and many of them were sleeping or zoned out as you tend to do in a bus. I can imagine by the time they figured out what was going on it was too late. Can you imagine being stuck in the middle of nowhere by the side of a highway on the prairie at night and trying to keep a madman in the bus. I'm wondering why the police just didn't take him out instead of letting the thing drag out for hours. It's all so weird.

  26. Walking to the Coldplay concert in Toronto last night, I passed through an underground tunnel with a huge-ass wall ad for Greyhound.

It read, "No one's ever heard of bus rage".

They might wanna take those ad's down, now.

    RIP Tim.

  28. Wow - this place is filling up fast with nut jobs.

  29. Dude, Selenakyle, no joke.

You know, this incident probably won't be big enough to change the security infrastructure of Greyhound, sadly.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't see why a criminal justice system doesn't have an out clause of some sort so that when you have a psycho murderer like this, who killed in front of many witnesses - you skip the usual steps and just drag him to the town square and let everyone have at him.

I don't see why this cretin should be given a single moment of consideration. Kill him slowly. very painfully. Stop all the other nut jobs in their tracks lest they get any fancy ideas.

    ReplyDelete
  31. one other thing - if you want to be truly afraid continue reading.

I had a very frank conversation with a psychiatrist after the Virginia Tech massacre committed by someone off his meds and he said "Every psychiatrist has at least one patient capable of something like this. Mine is a guy so off kilter that I'm going to give him a free supply of meds for 18 months once I retire. That way, when he snaps it won't come back to me".

lovely huh? consider how many nutjobs that means are lurking out there. I hope the media stops giving these nutjobs the glory they seek. Thats why they snap in public and take innocent victims. It plays well on TV.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The kid was dead almost immediately. After the scream, the guy directly in front of the murder victim turned around to see the killer vigorously stabbing the victim's THROAT.

I'm a fight not flight person too, but in this case I probably would have run.

The victim was beyond help, the killer had a HUGE knife. How many other people would have died if they jumped him?

There were children across the aisle and two seats back from the murder and the passengers teamed up to pass them over the seats to safety. They put themselves in danger by staying put right by the murderer to save the children while the murderer continued to hack at the victim.

On the news tonight, they interviewed a police officer who is one level below black belt in martial arts. He was showing his stab wound scars from trying to intervene in a knife attack a few years ago. Said he probably wouldn't do it again since he barely made it out of the situation alive.

20/20 hindsight can be useful with regard to helping people think about how they would react in a similar situation, but if the victim is dead...

And by intervening, he meant putting himself within stabbing distance.

  37. Speaking of someone in dire need of meds... It's utterly detestable how some people judge others in situations like these, especially while they are safe from harm. You just never know how you will react when caught off guard, especially with something so horrific. I think people might get the wrong idea from action movies. Most action heroes would be dead within 30 seconds if the scene had happened in the real world.

  38. ...the hell?
Who opened the floodgates at the asylum and granted them internet access?

I agree about those on that bus. When such a moment happens (and thankfully it's rare) what would your first instinct be? Mine would be to find safe turf and then think of a logical solution, if one were to be had.
Armchair heroes are just that...seat warmers.

  42. This one really shook me up, scared me and made me sick.

My heart goes out to Tim's family and friends. That is a horrible way to die.

I can't help but think "what if I'd been there? what would I have done?" I would have been scared out of my mind. And would want to protect the kids and everyone else while neutralizing the threat.

I'm a smaller person and can't imagine anyone doing more than getting everyone off the bus, calling the police and letting them deal with it.

I read the bus driver, a passenger and truck driver (who stopped to help) went back on the bus but left when the guy came after them. They had to lock him in the bus & disable it b/c he tried to drive off.
