"Hey. I'm Guilty. Use My Name."
I have now read about ten different articles by the wire services and newspapers about the guilty plea of Raffaello Follieri. Each article starts off with Anne Hathaway's former boyfriend or some variation like that. Most of the articles use her photo as well.
I think it is a pretty interesting case even without her involvement, and honestly, I think we all are a little sick of Anne. She is starting to really grate on our nerves. If you want to read my comments on her interview with W, it isn't going to happen. I think she's fake and a phony and I think she turned her boyfriend in. Sure he was guilty. He admitted it and we all knew it, but she must have known it for years, but she never did anything. Are we supposed to believe she woke up one day and said, "how can you afford all this? How come you are not doing what you promised to your investors?" She then went and burst into fake tears, rushed out of the $37,000 a month apartment she was paying for and called the FBI. As the FBI was dragging him away she probably whispered goodbye from a doorway across the street and then went and did press for Get Smart and laughed and laughed knowing she had done good. Now she could go get drunk with Star Jones or get it on with a woman or whatever she wanted to do.
Well, Raffaello deserves some attention for this crime without having to drag her name through the article to make it more interesting. Raffaello plead guilty to fraud today and will serve up to four years in the federal prison system, courtesy of the US taxpayer. He will also have to make restitution to those he defrauded, but most of them have already been paid back. Because he is going to a minimum security federal prison, it is unlikely that he will be forced to don a wig for his cellmate and call himself Princess Mia.
i have no problem with anne hathaway. she's no more phony than any other actress.
ReplyDeletemany actresses of yesteryear dated gangsters and God knows who else. should they meet the same fate as their gangster boyfriends?
hell, the goodfellas still take care of natalie cole. she will never be poor or homeless. she has her dad to thank for that.
I like her more because she has a bad side. If she was always sugary sweet, like it seems, she would be so boring.
ReplyDeleteha p m!
ReplyDeleteI like her... that's all!
All I've heard about her since the early Princess Diary days is that she's a raving bitch. I wouldn't even call her a "phony," 'cause she doesn't seem to try very hard to cover it up.
ReplyDeletepm, those are the phoniest ones. and we're talking about hwood mind you.
ReplyDeleteanne's not bad looking. i have no problem with her being pale. God made her that way. she just needs a good stylist like most celebs.
I don't really think she knew what was happening, to be honest. She's been working fairly steady over the last couple years, and when does any guy, especially the shady ones, ever fill their better half in on all the shenanigans they're up to? I think she was in love with the guy, and would have believed anything he said, and if she did turn against him in the end, I can't say I blame her. She has way too much to lose, and she probably found out about everything and flipped out, which any of us would do.
ReplyDeleteI don't think there's much more to her than what we see, which is a young woman who is trying to be a star, who got involved with someone who is slicker than she is. Old story.
I am very disappointed in this comment thread. Where have all the snarky cynicists gone? ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah but isn't she the one in the blind about the lez actress desperate to keep it under wraps? So really she was using him as a beard, probably knowing all while about his 'shenanigans' (love that word Kat). Only when it became obvious he was going to be busted, then she turned him in.
ReplyDeleteI don't like her, never have - something just seems off there. Plus (and this is admittedly shallow of me) her facial features are too big - the eyes, the mouth. She looks like one of those distorted pictures.
On a side note, that's interesting to know about Natalie Cole. Did anyone else know that?
I personally think she turned him in, too, but who knows how much she knew, and when. When I was fourteen, I dated a 19 year old arsonist that was responsible for several expensive buildings being burnt to the ground in my hometown...I never knew or suspected a thing...not exactly a full scale fraud or organized crime, but you see what I'm saying. its not like Anne was sitting there pouring over his manila folders with the words "SECRET" printed on them and actively directing what his promises were, to whom, and whether or not they were fulfilled. She has her own career. I know I don't ask my SO what project he's working on at work, and who its for, and how much they're getting paid, and if they delivered as promised.
ReplyDeletewhy should she stand by a fuckin thief? everyone has their lines in the sand and stealing from the church is gotta be one for her.
ReplyDeleteunless they were both in the mob, she owes him nadda! they weren't married, she never took vows. IMO.
There were articles being published about his shenanigans for months before he was arrested. There's no way she didn't know what was going on.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he wants to be Princess Mia if all the bearding stories are true.
ReplyDeletebut so what she knew big deal..how many crimes are committed daily that other people know about? are we now saying she should just wait patiently for 5 years?
ReplyDeletei don't understand why we're harping on someone for breaking up with her dishonest, thief of a boyfriend. did she enjoy perks from proceeds or crime? maybe..girl is rich, does she need his cash? no.
I agree with Jax -- being a high-profile, highly paid actress, she was used to the lifestyle and her boyfriend was part of that. They weren't married, she probably didn't ask him about his financial dealings.
ReplyDeleteI think she grew suspicious of him when she bailed him out of that bounced check incident. Maybe she was advised to have him investigated if she was going to continue her relationship with him and possibly marry him. So she has him investigated and finds out that he is up to criminal activity. Now I don't know what the laws are for private investigators and having to report criminal activity, but maybe she and/or the investigator were left with no choice but to turn his sorry ass in to authorities.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who has been around high dollar con men knows that Anne either actually knew or was willfully blind, which is just as bad as knowing from a moral perspective.
ReplyDeleteAs for the crimes, the numbers were decently big, but the vics were people like Ron Burkle? Give me a break. That's his fault if he gave up the money to this guy. Widows and orphans these victims are not.
In Anne's defense, she didn't rely on him and could have made it without him at any time, so she wasn't really complicit in the offense, if you know what I mean.
I don't give a rat's ass what she did or knew. HE's the criminal. She doesn't need him. Good riddens.
ReplyDeleteWhy the hell would anybody give Anne a hard time? She didn't commit the crime. Stop shifting the blame. It belongs on the boyfriend and it needs to remain there.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the fascination about her anyway.
ReplyDeleteHer W cover photo looks horrendous!
Freakishly large facial features on such a small head. It's weird.
Yes, that was mean.
