Meg Was Getting Back At Dennis
It seems so long ago doesn't it that the entire world was treating Meg Ryan like crap because she was having an affair with Russell Crowe and had left poor Dennis Quaid at home with the kids while she was off on set having a romance. Well, according to Meg, things are not always as they appear. In a recent interview with In Style, she says that Dennis had been cheating on her for a very long time.
"Dennis was not faithful to me for a very long time, and that was very painful. I found out more about that after I was divorced."
Sure, she cheated with Russell and Russell was there at the end, but according to Meg, Russell was not the reason the marriage broke up.
“I think he took a big hit. But Russell didn’t break up the marriage. He was definitely there at the end, but it wasn’t his fault. I was a mess. I hurt him too at the end. I couldn’t be in another long relationship, it wasn’t the time for that. So I got out.”
I think personally that it may have been a marriage in name only, but Dennis had done nothing while it was just him screwing around. It was only after Meg decided to join the cheating parade as well that it ended. So, perhaps Russell was a good thing even though it ended it. Prior to Russell it does seem like Meg was just letting Dennis do what he want and just kept trying to live up to her America's Sweetheart image.
It is nice to see and hear what everyone was always speculating about back then. Honestly, it seems the only person that suffered professionally was Meg. She just never has got that sweetheart reputation back. She doesn't seem to care, but it does kind of suck that the guys in all of this come out unscathed, while the woman who finally does what her husband had allegedly been doing for years hardly works again for the next eight years.

Really?
ReplyDeleteI thought she did not work again because of her obsession with bad plastic surgery, making her totally unrecognizable from her trademark America's sweetheart image.

ReplyDeleteThis is such ancient history. She must think that by bringing it up she can gain sympathy and resurrect her career.
ReplyDeletethe big stoopid oversized lips had nothing to do with it.
ReplyDeleteit was dennis' fault.
So why didn't she say this back when it mattered? I had figured she just didn't want to work - regardless of what happened I can't believe there wouldn't be producers dying to give her parts. Eh, what do I know?
ReplyDeleteIf my husband was cheating on me, then I would also start cheating. Why should he be the one having all the fun. I also agree that women seem to have the blame dumped in their laps no matter the situation. Somehow its always made to be the woman's fault. I say NOT FAIR!!!!!!!!! As they say "What's good for the goose is good for the gander" So, go Meg!!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know, she got all that weird plastic surgery right after Russell and so she was just strange looking. Having an affair, breaking up marriages, people have short memories. Just look at Julia Roberts and Jolie to name a few. I am sure their careers would have suffered as well if they changed there face so dramatically. Shes just starting to look halfway normal again.
ReplyDeletemooshki I have to agree with you. I do not remember her mentioning any of this back when it was relevant.
ReplyDeleteThis part is what is so weird...
"Dennis was not faithful to me for a very long time, and that was very painful. I found out more about that after I was divorced."
A little convenient. Like she knew enough about his cheating to justify cheating for revenge but then did not ever mention it when the world dumped on her for cheating.
I am not saying Dennis did not cheat - he probably did. She also has every right to keep things private. I guess it just seems like when you get to the point that you embark on a public affair to get revenge on your husband that you would go ahead and end the marriage (bc it is pretty much over) and then tell people exactly why you made that choice.
Sorry long post but the whole thing seems off to me.
i think it's easier to mention these things when they aren't so important rather than when they are.
ReplyDeleteMolly- exactly my thoughts too. I also think she was protecting her son. Her affair resurrected her husband's career.
ReplyDeleteWell, if it was for the sake of the kids, okay, but whether or not it hurt his career, it definitely hurt Russell's reputation. I'm glad he doesn't get as much of the blame now.
ReplyDeleteWhat I can't understand is why did she stay in the marriage if her husband was having all these affairs. I wouldn't stick around if it was me. Screw the guy and get him for all you can hehehe.
ReplyDeletejw12, yes, not exactly the kind of thing you want floating around in the news.
ReplyDeletei think for a time, it hurt both her and russell's careers, although he rebounded while she went into plastic surgery oblivion.
sylvia, she said she didn't know until after the divorce.
She was so cute--she should have let herself age gracefully.
ReplyDeleteHa. If I found out my spouse/partner was cheating I'd do what my father always told me to do: Hire a private investigator, get pictures, evidence, quietly sue for divorce, have the upper hand in the proceedings and maintain your dignity. Lashing out by having an affair doesn't solve shit, it only makes things worse and complicated especially if children are involved, and people lose respect for you....not because you had an affair but because you obviously don't know how to handle adversity.
ReplyDeleteI think after she changed her face is when she couldn't find work. Not sure if the Crowe thing had much to do with it.
I read that In Style interview.
ReplyDeleteMeg forgets to mention that she was the one who decided NOT to be America's sweetheart anymore and I remember reading that she declared she would never do romantic comedy again; her career died when she tried to become a dramatic actress.
Very convenient. Meg claims in the interview she is not a victim but her every word and omission of the above facts are meant to say "I am a victim."
amster,
ReplyDeletethat's not the route i would take. cheating for revenge only takes one down to the level of the cheater.
seems to me she got weird, too. not just the surgery. such a shame.
1. I don't think she has a lot of range as an actress, and that's one of the reasons "America" didn't want to see her do anything else. That movie "when a man loves a woman" where she was supposed to be an alcoholic was ridiculous.
ReplyDelete2. Whatever Quaid did, it was apparently under the radar, while she flaunted her relationship. But yeah, there was probably a double standard at work as well.
3. I don't think it hurt Crowe's career at all. He made some of his biggest movies around then.
Dennis was the biggest horndog in town. He'd show up at a party and the young starlets would roll their eyes and flee. Everyone but her knew it. I think, in her mind, the marriage was over so it didn't matter what happened with Crowe. And who on earth would want to be America's Sweetheart? Not exactly a role to aspire to. She got out of the marriage and moved on. Good for her.
ReplyDelete1) She has no carrear right now, just her big lips. She made bad choices, she is not a good actress, and now she lost all her good looks.
ReplyDeleteBasically, if she havent messed it up she could go on and play the Diane Lane s parts. If she had more talent and less ego , she would go for a "independet" movies carrear and start to win prizes and nominations.
About the affair : Okay, she had an idea about her husband cheating on her. She decided to , or just fell, for Crowe ( that knew he was fooling around with a married woman), and after divorce she found out Dennis was, in fact , cheating on her. Well, i guess we could say no one in the whole story was being honest and true. Most important thing : their kid survived well ( at least on surface) through the whole story.
Here here, Judi! He was No. 1 horndog for a very, very long time. And everyone is dumping on her again. She probably got the plastic surgery because her self-esteem was in a pee bucket under some old lady's bed somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI just recently caught In The Land of Women on TMN. Reminded me why I thought she was a good actress back in the day. I liked it.
Dennis Quaid's career isn't exactly A-list now. Admittedly, he was in a couple of good movies since all that happened. I used absolutely love that guy. Ever since The Big Easy.
