Set Your TiVo For October 18th

I had a very long discussion on Sunday about the opening of SNL from Saturday. This was the first week I didn't YouTube it because I wanted to see it in the same frame of reference as everyone else. I thought it was funny, but I didn't think it was outrageously so. Maybe because I had high expectations, or maybe because I knew Queen Latifah was going to be on in advance so the surprise was gone. I don't know. Yes, I thought it was funny, but it wasn't like I can't go out tonight I have to stay at home and watch this show funny. Or, I usually go to bed at 10pm, but I will force myself to stay up until 1130pm funny.

But, it was still way better than the rest of the show, and the line about teenage weddings was hilarious. On October 18th though is a chance for redemption. That is the date when they come back to live episodes, and there is a rumor floating around that Sarah Palin is actually going to be on the show making fun of Tina Fey making fun of her.

That would be worth watching. Maybe even don't go out funny. It isn't like I am running around on a Saturday night anyway. With the exception of last week in Vegas I can usually be found on the futon down in the basement. Without my waterbed, the futon has become my home. This weekend I spent time rediscovering the joys of crackers and all of their lovely flavors. Went down the whole aisle last week just to see what I had not had in awhile or new ones and I ended up with like 25 boxes and bags. Needless to say it was a carbohydrate filled weekend.

  1. The scary thing about the SNL skits at this point is how many of Palin's lines are lifted from actualinterviews and debates. Seriously America, I thought we were smarter than this.

Also, the part with the flute made my life! And the shout out about drinking games.

  2. From a waterbed to a futon? Your back must be killing you! Seriously, do what everyone told you last time and get a memory foam bed asap! :) I hope you had cheese too - crackers are no good without cheese.

I heard Palin is going to do a spoof of Fey's AmEx commercial. Could be hysterical if they get it right.

  3. I'd also like to give a shoutout to the third graders of Gladys Woods Elementary who were so helpful to me in my debate prep.

    still lmao!

  6. I'm loving the extreme dedication to snacking, any particulars I should try and get over here that are US specialities?

Also, I only get to watch certain sketches that are on the NBC site so you'll have to report back as to how it goes. I used to love staying up late and watching it when it was shown over here.

    "I'm all verklempt"! Sigh

  8. I loved the part at the beginning where she asked him if she could call him Joe, he said, sure, and then she said, "Okay, 'cause I memorized a couple of zingers where I call you Joe." That had me LMAO.

    The teenage wedding line, too.

  10. My mom bought Chicken in a Biscuit crackers when I was a youngster. They are yummy!
Nowadays I been purchasing Triscuit. They come in all kinds of flavors now. For something international I like the Japanese rice crackers.

  12. Although I don't think Sarah Palin did TOO poorly in the debate - that's not to say she did well, because she is still a flagrant idiot, and if she becomes vice president I will probably flee earth - I do think she is resorting to making a complete spectacle of herself if she does do SNL. Perhaps she should wait until after the election? People are already not taking her seriously and now she's gonna do skit comedy??? It might be a way to show that she has a sense of humour, but personally I think knowledge would be a more important trait. For a president especially.

    Tina Fey = still awesome.

  15. I haven't seen SNL, but Palin is funny enough off her own bat. And by 'funny', I mean, 'batshit crazy with appalling language skills'.

If she gets in, the US had better climb a tree and pull it up after itself. Otherwise you are all doomed, DOOMED, I TELL YOU!

  16. We vote next Tuesday in Canada. They've been campaigning oh, roughly 3 weeks. We vote, we get a mildly new configuration, then we wait until who ever is in charge pulls a shotgun election announcement. I am way more entertained by the US election than anything that's happening here. I can't even see Palin on TV without giggling. She is just SO fricking hilarious. And she doesn't even know it.

And, I don't even know why they called it a debate really. It was reading from cue cards. How crazy is it that people think she "held her own" and "appeared informed" when she read her statements. There was no real debating. It was an issue airing. Totally lame.

  17. Molly, I remember those but we got them covered in chocolate. I think they're called Pretzel Flipz?

I'm in the UK currently but seriously thinking about moving Stateside for many a reason, not least the food ;)

  18. west end, that's something else but i know what you're talking about. those are okay. these other things are addicting. if i bought them i'm sure i'd be the amy winehouse of my neighborhood.

yea, we've got some good food here, that's for sure.

tania, this we know! it's not only that she's so inept and can't speak properly, but the fact that this is what mccain is going to surround himself with that scares the hell out of me.

  20. I can see that almost everyone chose to focus on the important element of Ent's post: The snacks.

I wish it was OK to have a box of Chicken flavoured Arnotts Shapes for breakfast. Not that I have a box with me right now, but if I did I would devour them.

  21. missbliss, we're answering a question posed by west end girl, not enty's post...lol.

we're airheads, but not that bad.

  22. Nothing better than string cheese and a box of sesame Melba snacks. That's my evening meal. Yummy.

The fun thing about watching Tina doing Palin is how she's improved with each impersonation. She really nailed her last Saturday Night. Queen Latifah's reaction to some of the comments was hilarious too.

For those who said they didn't see it, it's worth watching online.

Enty - Did you get a chance to eat those puffed club crackers. Yum. Wheat thins and white cheddar cheez-its are pretty delicious, too.

And I was laughing a lot during this. Even Sudeikis as Biden was pretty good.

  25. Molly, I know. It still orginated from the post, though, and the Palin talk is prety much just an after-thought :)

  26. Wow, how is it that most Canadian's have figured out what an idiot Palin is but so many American's still think she's great? Argh. How generous are your immigration laws because if she and McCain win, I might actually move to Canada? I don't think I can take 4 years of "darn right I do"

  27. Apologies for the hijack but the cuisine of the States is something immensely interesting to me. Short of harassing those outside the embassy to let me in, this is the easiest, and cheapest, way to do it :p

  28. I am sitting here eating Ritz Toasted Chips in the sour cream and onion flavor. I am also drinking a 3.2 beer since I live in a state that booze can't be sold in the grocery stores and I was too lazy to stop off at the liquor store to get the full strength stuff. Anyway I thought Anne was very funny on SNL.

  29. i think it is funny that people write off palin because she is governor of alaska but biden is from delaware- a tiny state... not that it matters either way because people are people no matter where they are from. we live in a country where an action movie actor can become governor of california so why judge? if anything i am cheering because this lady cuts the bullshit, she is not washington uppercrust that honestly, would snub anyone of us in person.

  30. enty you are soooo cute!
my dad gave me a bit of money yesterday for groceries since i havent been doing so well on the tip front at work and i swear to gosh i walked around the safeway for 2 hours with this big grin on my face, buying whatever my little heart desired! I went down every aisle, and totally got 3 different types of snack crackers/chips. We need to hang and watch tv and exchange snacks and be snarky at people on tv.

  31. missbliss, sorry we didn't talk more about palin. maybe enty will do another post and we'll all stay on topic.

sara, people on both sides of the aisle say nobody knows more about foreign policy than joe biden. he was a really smart choice. there were a lot of strong, bright, very experienced women mccain could have picked, but he went with someone who doesn't sound like she knows what she's talking about, has very poor grammar skills, and is surrounded by controversy with incorrect taxes and an investigation to see if she abused her power and broke any laws. no way was she fully vetted and he only met her once before asking her to be on the ticket. then he kept her out of the loop on important decisions. she didn't even know he was ending his campaign in michigan until she read about it in the paper. he doesn't want a strong woman, he wants someone he can trot out at his convenience and then slam the door on again. given the way he's treated a lot of women, i think he may be a misogynist. look at the numbers - obama is even winning in three of the most important states - ohio, minn., and penn.
