Blind Items Revealed

November 4, 2008

A list actress. Hell, she isn't just an actress, she is also a producer and a very successful one at that. About three months ago our actress was in downtown LA and was headed for dinner. She saw a family that was huddled about 50 feet from the restaurant. Obviously homeless, the dad had a sign while the mom watched their two children. Our actress could have just gone into her dinner, but, instead walked over to the family and started asking them about their life. It was during this that one of her dinner companions also showed up at the restaurant. Through no fault of their own this family was stuck. This actress could have walked away, but instead she canceled her dinner plans, got the family to a hotel and got them some food. Over the course of the next week she found them a place to live, hired the husband for her company, helped the mom get the kids in school and found a job for the mom as well.

  7. This may be the best reveal this year.

  8. Yo, not to be a grinchy bitch, but can we get fewer of these kindness item reveals? It's starting to feel like a very special episode of Extra up in here.

  9. I knew she had a good heart, but wow. Serendipitous moment for sure.
I will go to every movie she is in from here on in, whether I think I will like it or not.

  10. Yep, already signed up to the Drew Barrymore love-in but I'm signing up for me. From such a personal history and to still be this gracious? Takes some phenomenal character.

If only the Lohans, Olsens, Simpsons etc of this world could take note too.

  11. Noooooooooooooooooo, Enty, please reveal ALL of the kindness blinds.

And the really nasty ones too, please.

  12. I love Drew Barrymore, and I love the kindness blind items. It couldn't get any better than this.

  13. She always struck me as a bit of a douche, but this has warmed my heart to her. Love to see the bleeding heart celebs walking the walk and not just talking the talk, you know?

I'll go see her next movie for that kindness.

  14. I meant signing up for more, not me. Am not a selfish moo, really. Why is there no edit button??

  15. Okay I don't remember reading this one and it is way over the top. Lainey always calls her a manslinger but I don't give a rat's a-- about her love life if she's this caring.

So Drew could you make a really good movie this year so that I can support you?

  16. Yo, w3rd...these reveals are both kindness and nasty. We are fortunate that Ent reveals what he can. Enjoy what he reveals...the rest of us do. If not? Buh bye.

  17. I love that he's revealing the kindness ones. And this one is spectacular!

  18. wow!!!! she's a wonderful human being.

  19. I'm just saying that some of these stories are so over the top they sound like press releases inked by some PR flack desperate to net his clients a Nobel peace prize. Who cares if some heinously rich twat has the resources to hire an entire homeless family to scoop up her dog's shit, or that some other fabulously wealthy has-been milked her limited acting range into a career so lucrative that she no longer has to work and instead volunteers for fifteen hours a day feeding orphaned slaves at an icky soup kitchen in the valley?!?! Not only is conspicuous charity the absolute worst kind of charity, it's also incredibly boring to boot. If you're the kind of earnest suburban hausfrau who honestly enjoys this twee garbage, you can just toddle on over to the Hallmark Channel and people.com. Oh, and if enty doesn't want feedback, he shouldn't offer comment features on his blog.

  22. This brought a tear to my eye. What a wonderful heart.

  23. W3rd, what's the sack of King Edwards on your shoulder about?

Nothing wrong with kindness reveals or suburbarn hausfraus so perhaps it says a lot more about you rather than Enty and us that you're this peeved about it.

  24. this makes up for her dating the mac guy.

  29. wow....nice job Drew. I loved that story.

  30. I'm not peeved, just disappointed. This blog has had some truly salacious gossip on it, and the big New Year's day reveal was touted as some sort of huge Event, but then all we get are D-listers getting praise for what normal people do everyday all across this country? It's a bit like being promised the Biggest, Best Concert Evar and showing up to find the only acts on the ticket are Amy Grant and Jars of Clay.

Oh and charity is only charity if it remains anonymous. If you're getting credit for it, you're ultimately doing it for selfish reasons. Even if I believed that these celebrities were half as good as these posts made them out to be, to come here and read weepy posts about how Rob Schneider and Patricia Heaton are the next Jesus for doing something that normal people should be and are doing, without acknowledgement, in your very own communities is disgusting.

  31. farmgirl,

I was thinking exactly what you said, and you said it....

Drew, you are THE LADY, I don't care what kind of snark is EVER put out about you!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. She's had so many ups and downs in her career and personal life. She really is the poster child for kindness. Bravo!

    ReplyDelete
  33. C'mon over James.
I will make you a drink.

  34. W3rd ... I definitely like what you are writing and am getting a good laugh as you're probably fun to hang with and are quite articulate.

I think that a point that you're probably missing is that these celebrities don't really have the option to go anonymous to a soup kitchen or feed homeless people like you or I may be able to do. I don't think that many celebrities do. Many of US 'normal folk' don't and there are many more of 'Us' than there are 'them'. These celebrities don't even have to do it and can use their celebrity as a reason not to do it. They can get caught up in their lives much like we wrapped up in ours.

I agree with you that some of these celebrities, particularly in sports, do this for a well-read and received press release.

Regardless, I think that it is commendable that any anyone (celebrity or not) share their time and generosity with those that are less fortunate.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yes!! I got this one right. Knew it was her, she's such a great soul.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well said CM. An important point is that this group of celebs obviously didn't do it for the press. They didn't seek it out or get any. Until now. I don't see a publicist's fingerprints on these items.

To a point I agree that charity should be anonymous. However, with a celeb, for the most part they can do much more good by being public about a particular cause and thereby hopefully inspiring others to get involved.

How many people would be as aware as the crisis in Darfur if George Clooney hadn't made several trips there, spoken out about it repeatedly, attempted to address congress, did fundraising and helped produce a documentary for HBO(?) that was available for free download worldwide last year for a two days.

w3rd - if you really are a regular reader of this blog, then you should know that we like a little sugar with our spice. And that's want Enty's giving us today. And you're the only one complaining about it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. She is one of a couple celebrities that I'd love to get stoned with some day. She would have awesome stories.

She's not a Jessica Biel type famewhore. She didn't create a fan fare over it and it wasn't known until now...hence, anonymous.

I get the bitchin about the trolls that go out there for the photo op and nothing more. You'd have to be a moron not to see the difference. If they feel the need to whore themselves out, I hope they give their money instead of their time. At least let the charity get something worthwhile out of it.

  38. Kudos to X for guessing Drew first.
